Ah yes, 1984, the year Van Halen went mainstream. What a time? Going from classic hits like Running With the Devil, DOA, Everybody Wants Some, Unchained, to Jump, I’ll Wait and who could forget the jaw-dropping 1984 instrumental? Just think, now your mom could listen to tunes with you? And lets not forget the little tighties coming up to me and telling me how Van Halen was the best, but they would not know any other Van Halen albums.

I was 14 and it was my first year in the city high school. It was the first time I had more than one interested suitor. : )

Sometimes I just sit and think about that summer....lying in the sun at the city pool with my boom box under the chair playing Van Halen II.

Out of high school for three years in '84 ... racing cars! It was about this year I flipped my mini truck into the cow pastor! Probably had VH in the tape player! Hangin' out in the backwoods by the fire with a kegger and some close friends!

I remember 1984. I got out of high school that year. Nothing short of a miracle....people were dying, and dogs were getting spray-painted. In retrospect, people getting spray-painted would have been better.

For the better part of 4 years after 1984, I basically tried to end my own life....working on a shrimp boat, framing condominiums, setting fire to cow pastures, etc.

It's memories of Don Mattingly emerging as the best young hitter in baseball; and Jack Morris, Lance Parrish, Kirk Gibson leading the Detroit Tigers to the World Series..

It's memories of Dan Marino taking the NFL by storm...and Joe Montana proving that he was the greatest of all time.

"Purple Rain" hit the theaters and launched Prince into stardom..

It's memories being 15 and young without a worry in the world and the world as my oyster. Fuck, it seems like yesterday. lol Shit, time flies.
