VH tour will be bigger than KISS in '96

    Just wait and see
It really doesnt matter that Anthony will not be playing Bass.
The magic is Dave and Ed

Amphitheatres? Just to let everyone know once tix really do go on sale for this tour, oncve they start selling out in like 5 minutes, more shows will be added in bigger venues

Fuck, if they would have gotten back together 10 years ago when that whole MTV fisco happened, I could have honestly said that the tour would freaking BLOW out what the Police are trying to do now. But i dont think it is 10 years too late for our guys

Remember, dave was the best front man in hard rock- period. Ed was/is the best guitarist since Hendrix-period. so what Ed is a drunk- name me one person in rock that isnt?

    and when the tour kicks ass fucking gene simmons will probably be like' hey, i discovered them;

VH in '96 would've been bigger than KISS in '96.

    Not sure about it now.

They are all ten years older.

I'm sure the tour will do well, but bigger than what KISS did in '96-97?

    I don't think so.

They'd have to do a FULL YEAR of touring around the globe (like KISS did) if they want to reach those levels.

Nice thought, but not very realistic.

    Nobody really knows anything yet...

The only confirmed piece of news is that Van Halen has a new bassist.

    That's it.

It will NOT be bigger than KISS in '96. No way.

That tour was hyped better than almost any other tour in history.

And it really delivered...and it delivered all four original members.

And the only member in '96 who seemed to have lost a bit in the 15 years was Peter Criss...his playing just wasn't as good.

But that's nothing compared to the gap between Michael Anthony's playing/singing and what Wolfie's abilities will be...

This tour is not 10 years late...let us not forget the legacy that VH has with roth. Once tix go on sale, they will sell out in a matter of minutes. once the demand is there, more shows will be added both in the US and hopefully in some areas overseas.

VH will play major arenas when it is all said and done
    multiple nights of sell outs

listen, no one gives a shit about anthony. VH is Dave and ED. If anything, having wolfie play bass just makes things more interesting if you ask me. KISS needed all 4 original members because each of them hasd their own songs and all 4 had their makeup and costume personas. VH doesnt. anthony just played the bass-thats it. He didnt freaking write the tracks or really bring anything to the table to put VH over the top. and as far as his backround vocals, everyone uses pre-recorded back up now anyway, no one will freaking care.

With all 4 members and an album it would be over the top.

anything else will just bring out the curious.

when motley crue got back for their red white and crue tour they sold out arenas all over the country(and canada/the uk/ etc). i love the crue but musically they do not hold VH's jock strap. Yes, it was all 4 original members but if Mick wasnt doing it , it wouldnt freaking matter. Mick is the least visible member of the crue, just like anthony is for VH. With the rock and roll hall of fame induction, and a new tour with roth(the first with him since 1983/4), whoever thinks that this tour will not be big is smoking crack. If cure sold our arenas then guess whwt, VH will do it as well.

Ok boys and girls, let's slow down a little. Nothing is final. Shit, we will be lucky if Dave is even on tour with the Van Halen boys. One minute here we are talking about a watered down DLR and all of a sudden they are going to concer the world? Sorry to bring anyone down, but rememer the titans, oh, that was remember 1996!
By the way, the Crue did not sell out at the concert I was at and they sounded and performed BANG ON!

And how are Van Halen going to tour for a year and a half like KISS, doing endless photo shoots and 200 shows?

Wolfgang cannot spend his years of 16-17 playing all over the world. No way. He can't go from a year of playing bass in his dad's studio to a one-and-a-half year tour.

And do you really think Ed will get along with Dave for that long? Again, no fucking way.

And with no new material and a lot of mad VH fans, I just don't think it will be as big.

I admire Hang Em High's enthusiasm and positivity.

I just want to make sure you're still coming around after your lofty vision for the success of this tour doesn't pan out.

I'd be interested in some market data around the viability of this lineup/tour. I think you underestimate many old timers' will power to stay away from an Anthony-less VH. The Classic VH fans have had to live with the most pain this quarter of a decade. Lived through Hagar, 1996, Cherone, 2000, Hagar Part 2, and now having Wolfgang foisted on us?

This tour won't come anywhere close to Kiss 1996 or Timberlake 2007 for that matter. lol... There is a lot of pent up frustration and fan animosity toward Edward and the "band." And the customers/fans voted with their dollars when Cherone was singing/touring, and when Hagar came back for the Fleece The Sheep tour.

Hope it all works out for everyone shelling out their hard earned money for this. I saw the original, so I'm good. I'll catch this year's mockery on YouTube or VH1.

Let's catch up again in September (or sooner) and see where things stand.

Keep up the energy and posts...

Gene Simmons can kiss my sweet tushie. Read DAVE's Book, for more insight to the roll Gene played. Again, DAVE saw quickly through this shmeckle-head and let ED know that Gene was not going to knab Ed away like he truly wanted to do.

I just heard Gene Simmons on the Mark & Brian Show (Classic Rock Station KLOS-Los Angeles) 2 days ago and this guy is washed up as far as making music. He is talking about Comic Strips for his website AND selling his and hers fragrances: KISS HIM & KISS HER..........if he's marketing these days, I suppose his big plan is to sell as much as possible for Valentines Day. KISS ME-Tush, GENE! LOL!

VH with DAVE......Oh YES....Much Bigger than KISS....read my lips!

Because Gene Simmons is an annoying-as-hell businessman means that VH with Dave will beat the KISS '96 Reunion Tour? That tour was huge. It was the biggest tour of the year.

VH will not do those kinds of numbers without the original line-up and with the current situation (a 15-year-old kid not seasoned to tour). They need the original line-up and the whole fanbase behind them for this to work. They need a more exciting stage show...and that doesn't include a porky teenager with acne that doesn't play bass.

I love Dave. I hate Ed. Ed is fucking this up...again. And some of you forget what effect it had on this band in '96, '98 and '04.

I love KISS...but they don't hold up to classic VH...or even Ed and Dave together. No way. This will in no way be as big a tour. They're simply going about it totally the wrong way.

They need hype...and nothing is bigger than:

"THE ORIGINAL LINE-UP...BACK WITH A NEW ALBUM AND A HUGE TOUR."

    Now that's a commercial.

KISS didnt tour behind a new album for their reunion tour

As far as hype, the rock and roll hall of fame induction isnt enough hype? Fans will be drawn to the soap opera that is van Halen

We are talking about one of the greatest american rock and roll bands of all time, back together after what, 24 years???? Again, it doesnt matter that anthony will not be there, no one will give a shit .

again, if VH does a worldwide tour ala KISS, it will be bigger

We are not talking one of the greatest, we are talking the greatest. But, life changes, things aren't what they were 10 years ago, time passes, ideas change, life changes.
Don't think anyone here doesn't want this to be the mother of all tours breaking every record known to man. But we are getting sick of getting kicked in the nuts and I ain't wearing my cup!
Glad to see you are excited as I was 20 years ago, rock on.

it wont even be close to the Kiss tour..which went on to be an almost world wide phenomenon..KISS fans are like trkky loyal and that tour was huge..

this new VH tour is gonna get overshadowed by the Police

at this point EVH makse Ace Frehley look stable!!

VH were never the worldwide draw Kiss were...

sure Kiss are annoying but it doesnt sound like VH has any fire to regain the crown..this is gonna be a high profile nostalgia shed tour..

i have to agree that this tour is gonna be big if it happens, and i dont think anthony will be a factor.
hell if you ask 7 out of 10 people who liked vh back in the day, what the bass players name was, they prolly couldnt tell you, it was all dave and eddie, most people didnt even look to the left side of the stage unless dave was over there.
dont get me wrong i think its bullshit the way hes being treated, and hate the fact that i am going to have to watch a spoiled fat kid play with true rock icons of R&R history, but the fact is that it was always dave and eddie.
most people only know vanhalen was a crazy ass blonde haired motherfucker that sang some good ass songs and the greatest sounding guitar player they ever heard and his name was eddie.
    most people arent like us.

I don't think it's going to be bigger than KISS. For one thing, it's not really a major tour, just a little summer thing.

If Ed's playing is on, and word spreads, and they market it correctly, it could be pretty big, and possibly lead to bigger things down the road.

But we all know, they don't understand business and marketing, so it probably won't be earth-shattering.

kiss has made most of thier money selling dolls and lunchboxes.
kiss has some extremley loyal fans, that is why they do good on tour
but if you seriously listen to thier music, it aint the greatest, its kinda hokey.

im having a hard time finding bad things to say about kiss, prolly cause i worshipped them my whole childhood.

Hype machines, smoke and mirrors, midgets and all the press in the world can't help a watered down product. This tour should do well, but nothing can measure up to the original.

Having Wolfie in the band is like having water in your beer.

KISS was a huge success because of the nostalgia factor. hey, when they last toured w/Criss and Ace(79,80?), it was no where near the 96 reunion.

As time passes by, people forget, and legends grow, the musical landscape changes, and then nostalgia kicks in

As in 96, rock in roll as we know it doesnt exist. that is why people are drawn to nostalgia, childhoods, etc. When roth left, VH was probably the biggest band in the world(with the excpetion of michael jackson but he is not a band). now, take everything into consideration. rock sucks now, VH was the biggest band when they broke up, their legend has grown(even though they have been a fucking mess lately), and people flock to everything from the 80's/70's now. If anyone here doesnt think, beyond a reasonable doubt, that this tour will not be a HUGE freaking success, then pass me what your smoking because I wanet some

KISS sold out Tiger's Stadium in 1996 in one day.

Van Halen 2007 won't be selling out any stadiums.

Even WITH Mike, there's just no way Van Halen are gonna sell as many tickets and make as much money, even at today's inflated ticket prices vs. ten years ago.

1996? Van Halen would have given KISS a run for the money.

Now? Not so much. Diminished fanbase and public interest after a decade of fuckups.

This reunion won't come CLOSE to the KISS reunion. For starters, that tour netted Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley $36 million. Secondly, that tour lasted a year and a half. Do you really think DLR and EVH can get along for that long? Thirdly, Mike isn't in the band, so it's not an official reunion in my eyes, whereas you had all four original members for the KISS reunion. Finally, KISS and Doc McGhee hyped the reunion up so much that fans were almost having orgasms hearing about it. Really the KISS reunion started with the KISS Konventions when Peter Criss hopped onstage in L.A., which led to the whole Unplugged thing, that turned into the reunion tour. We find out about the VH "reunion" via a Billboard.com report...what??? No big announcement on the website? No big press conference? Listen, I'm EXCITED about Dave being back in the band, but let's tap the brake just a bit. This 40 date tour will do very well, and I can see them extending it further if the band can get along, and I suspect that Mike will be brought back at some point cos I don't think Wolfie can handle a full fludged tour at 15. That's asking too much. Plus, you're forgetting what Mike brought to the band. His backing vocals were amazing, not to mention his bass playing. He's a great musician and he is needed in VH. But, I will be there when they swim thru Dallas!!!

The KISS reunion was successful for several reasons:

    1. All 4 original members were a part of it.
    2. The hype machine created by Simmons, Stanley, and McGhee was so big that it got every KISS fan excited.
    3. The KISS fans are very loyal (I should know, I am one), and have been bitching about a reunion for years (sound familar?)
    4. All 4 original member were 100% dedicated to making it work. Watch the DVD Second Coming and you can see a sample of the time they spent rehearsing and prepping for the tour. It showed when they took the stage.
    5. No matter how great the Van Halen tour is, it will not generate $36 million for the band. I know money isn't the deciding factor, but it can be used as a measuring stick. In other words, you have to sell a lot of tickets and shirts to generate $36 million for a year and a half tour.

Having said all of this, I like the idea of Roth being back, but I am also weary cos these guys have been dicking us around since '96 with claims of reuniting, etc. Based on recent history, I can't see DLR, EVH, and AVH getting along for a long period of time. Then again, I didn't think KISS would be together for 5 years before Peter and Ace left the band again. Stranger things have happened.

Ed was/is the best guitarist since Hendrix-period. so what Ed is a drunk- name me one person in rock that isnt?

    and when the tour kicks ass fucking gene simmons will probably be like' hey, i discovered them;
No FUCKING WAY will it be bigger than the KISS reunion. AND it does matter that MA is not there.

Also... no bigger venues will be added. I bet they won't even play the Staples center here in Los Angeles and Van Hagar played there 2 nights in a row in 2004!!
