    Double studio albums

There weren't that many double LPs made in the studio. Not all the greatest bands/artists made theirs - The Who didn't, Creedence didn't, ZZ Top didn't, and so on.
I surely forgot a few gems here, but you can always click on the "Other" option and explain your choice.

To me, Electric Ladyland is the most awesome, it's bigger than Physical Graffiti; but my vote goes to Exile on Main Street, a diamond IMO.

I will go for Pink Floyd "The Wall".

There`s nothing there that shouldn`t be, it`s an awesome work.

    Special mention also to:

Genesis "The lamb lies down on Broadway"
    Yes "Tales from topographic oceans"
Emerson, Lake and Palmer "Works Volume 1"
    Thunder "Laughing on judgement day"

Daydream Nation by Sonic Youth or maybe Blonde on Blonde by Dylan. Both fantastic albums and are two of my personal favorites.

    I have to with Exile.

Not one bad song on that album!
    It's perfect!

I've never been able to get Hendrix, and I'm not familiar with Mayall. all the other options blow, so I went with The Stones.

    Zeppelin's Physical Graphitti.

    Musical versatility to the max.
Why settle for something you have, if it's not as good as something you're out to get?

Damn, I'm ashamed again... I've got all the Who released from "A Quick One" to "The Kids are alright", and I forgot "Quadrophenia" (that said, I only have it on CD, so... ).

On "Back to the Roots", Mayall gathered all the musicians who were once part of his Bluesbreakers in the 60s, among which Clapton and Mick Taylor.

That double vinyl is just awesome. It's blues of course, with so much taste and inspiration.

On side A you have an amazing song called "Accidental suicide", inspired with Jimi Hendrix's death 2 months before (the recording of the 18 tracks took place from November 15th to 25th 1970, only a dozen days...). It somehow sounds a little like Hendrix, with no drums but an awesome guitar work (Clapton + Mick Taylor + Harvey Mandel, 3 guitars! - Larry Taylor is on bass).

Blues is treated in many different facets on "Back to the Roots", which makes it very catchy unlike certain blues records can be sometimes.
    It's a must have, IMO.

They are also my choices, BTW

I'd actually go with "Quadrophenia" if I had to pick one.

Although its aboot mods of the 60s, its essentially just aboot growing up, and all the confusions surrounding it. Something EVERYONE can relate to. Plus, I love the fact that it's a concept album, and yet all the songs could stand alone and work on some other random Who album.

    That's Townshend's genius.

That's my choice, with Exile a close second. Basically, Zeppelin was the most popular hard rock outfit in the world when that recording dropped. John Paul Jones? His mastery of every arrangement possible just OWNS.

OK, I rectified my mistake (I have it on a single CD, which deceived me).
Anyway I'm not sure I'd put it in the list, though I love that album too, because of the few songs by other artists. Take them out, and I'm not sure you get a double album.

Exile On Main Street has Rocks Off and Ventilator Blues, those two alone are enough to clench the title for me.

    That`s a bit strong.

Any album with songs as good as "Coma", "Estranged", "Locomotive" or "Bad apples" (to name but a few) isn`t a load of bollocks.

    Damn, and what about "Tommy"?...
Like "Quadrophenia" I have it on a single CD, so I forgot it too.

If I could, I'd put the poll this way now:

    Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland

    The Beatles - White Album

    The Who - Tommy

John Mayall - Back to the Roots

The Rolling Stones - Exile on Main Street

    Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti

    Pink Floyd - The Wall

    I wish I could.

Can't really make up my mind about this one. Maybe a good one to add isn't really the best EVER, but it's pretty damn good. And that's RHCP's "Stadium Arcadium"

imo, stadium will be one of the great albums that will stand the test of time and people will still dig 30 years from now. it is pretty mainstream, but i don't think there's many people who can't admit that it's just great music for the most part. easily a future classic.

but don't get me wrong, i'm not claiming that is it the best of all time either by any means. i just think that it's definitely a big highlight today in a shit infested music world of today.
