I would put the musicianship of the Police up against VH anyday of the week. The 1st 3 Police LPs are far from pop music. You are only basing your remarks on "Every Breath You Take" The Police were successful among their peers and had commercial & critical success throughout their career. The same cannot be said of VH. They have pulled some stunts that remove them from legendary status.

So you don't like the pop music DLR made with VH? The 1st 6 VH LPs clock in around 30 minutes each. Of that 30 minutes there are intrumentals and POP cover songs. And don't get me started on Diver Down... that LP is a mess! in reality DLR and VH didn't really create that much original music together. Barely enough to fill 2 CDs. Come to think of it maybe these guys don't deserve to be in the RnRHoF.

You sound like a frustrated (insert description here) that was never allowed to listen to VH or see the shows, and had to settle for what radio filler (The Police) you could get,and you're pissed at CVH fans because you could never get over that nerd hump.
I don't know what foriegn country you lived in where the Poplice were more popular on tour than VH at the time they were both touring, but saying they were selling out stadiums in this country is BOOlshit.
The fact that VH influenced an entire generation of musicians is why they should be allowed in the RRHoF, not because of how much revenue they brought the record executives with album sales. THAT, my misguided freind, is why they belong. What the fuck did the Poplice ever do for R n R? Sell records? Like the Anti-Nowhere League said,"So Fucking What?" So did the New Kids On the Block.
The Sex Pistols were nominated for being the Sex Pistols-1 album.
It's what they did not what they sold. What did the Poplice do besides dress like the Pistols and play white-boy reggae? Not a goddam relevant thing-but sell records.
Over and out means you're finished and not coming back,so stop lying to everybody and honor your word.Douche.

1st of all I hate the Sex Pistols... they suck. The Ramones are the original punk band and were on the scene before the Pistols. I love the Ramones!!

    Yes VH influenced many bands...
    Poison
    Warrant
    Ratt
    Cinderella
    White Lion

    Gee... thanks alot VH.

Figures you'd think that. Their debut is one of the hardest, loudest and most intense albums in history. But your taste seems to be shit quite often, so...

And the Pistols can play...I have enough live gigs and their film and see a band that plays as well as many other "classic" bands and better than quite a few punk bands.

And is it all about if their shredders? I'm sure a ton of metalhead morons can play quicker than a buzzing bee...but most of them influenced nobody and Steve Jones sure as hell did.

    YOU'RE NOT A HARD-ROCKING FUCKER.

Let me parallel the quote above with FACTS.

Fact: I went to a Joan Jett show that included The Police. Not the fuzz, the fucking lack-of-power-trio you keep harping about. After about an hour and a half of hard-rocking shit like "I Love Rock And Roll", "Bad Reputation", and "Cherry Bomb?" I forgot about seeing yet another bastardized version of The Specials. They fucking sucked. Arena rock wasn't designed to showcase a pretentious asshat with all manner of soundboard help. "Don't Stand So Close To Me"...it took like 20 seconds of my life that's gone forever to agree. I ain't lying, it was like a fire drill the way other folks got the fuck out of there as well.

Fact: I went to see the original lineup of Van Halen at the same venue. Nobody left during the show. As a matter of fact, some folks didn't want to leave when the show was over. Some were fighting the actual Police, some were sleeping on the floor.

Great stuff... great guitar player. Maybe it's just Lydon that I hate.

The Ramones played BEFORE the Pistols...and in retrospect, a lot of useless reviewers call them the first punk band because they played before most of the bands in the scene the media lumped together. But the edgy garage-ness of the punk sound is born in Iggy and the Stooges...among many other bands.

Too many reviewers will lump bands together and chart a simplified version of the growth of a sound...but it's bullshit.

I love The Ramones. But just because they did 20 albums instead of one doesn't make 'em any more vital.

The Pistols album has 12 classics...and 12 songs. Maybe six songs that are on Top 1000 lists to this day.

If hard rockin' means to get drunk and fight on the floor of a concert then NO my hard rockin' days are over as are CVH's hard rockin' days. Hell they can't even rock hard enough to record one new song.

As for the Police... Sting is a better bass player than MA any day of the week AND Stewart Copeland is a monster drummer who doesn't hide behind 4 bass drums and about 20 other pieces of drum equipment that Alex doesn't even touch. Alex's kit is for show not for drumming. Andy Vs. Eddie they both rock and are great at what they do. Could Andy Summers play Eruption... probably not but I bet he'd give Spanish Fly a run for it's money.

I love your rants. So much fire and passion and I could actually understand this one.

Joan Jett is awesome!! watch out though... she's gay and I know how you feel about "those" people.

    Out for the 785th time,

That's with Duff from GNR and John Taylor from Duran2 right?

I'll have to go to Amoeba records and look for a used copy of that.

You may want to take issue with Stink's forehead as well as Dave's ,since hair is a pet peave of yours Jennifer.

Um... Joan Jett is gay! She may have been bisexual in the early 80's but she is full on gay now and open about it.

I don't care if she's gay. I'd still fuck her if she weren't 25 years my senior.

Start with MC5. After that, go directly to The Damned. It's gonna be a grate journey for ya. You can virtually skip all kinds of crap, and end up a fucking Goth. That's right, you won't get the gratest move in Punk Rock history, and end up relegated to a walk-in closet full of black turtlenecks.

    Figure that one out dipshit.

So glad I stuck my foot into the "warm" end of the pool.

Mezro...nice rant Rusty...I felt it man...a great rock and roll show: one of the true simple pleasures of life...until some fucking redneck wearing a stained ZZ Top t-shirt pukes Taco Bell on you...hard to enjoy live music when the border is making a run down your arm...

It's all subjective bro. Let's throw subjectiveness out the window, and concentrate on Hina going GOTH.

It'll be like, "hey Hina, did you see The Police on the grammy awards?"

    DEAD SILENCE.

Then the next day, Hina talks about how he was diggin' up graveyards and shit.

God help us if he goes SCREAMO!

It's what I do Mez, and thanks for the kudos.

I've been kind of picking my spots as of late, and taking blotter acid. I ain' shittin' you dude...there's fucking swirling red-shoulder'd hawks out there...right now. I've been checking out the nest with BINOCULARS. Those fuckers watch everything...fucking squirrels can encroatch on the nest with no reaction. I mean, the fucking Hawk is sitting there on nest, not giving a flying fuck about the squirrel right below! That fucker don't need no BINOCULARS...he's watching me.

    Write it off as paranoia?

I agree with the STOOGES being the original punk band, I'd even go further: they're the ONLY real one. Later ones sound like kiddies as compared to "Funhouse" or (mostly) "Raw Power" IMO.

The MC5's riff on "Kick out the Jams" was used "ad nauseam" by the 1976-78 so-called punks like "their" one and only guitar riff sequence.

That said, I know the punks' aim wasn't to play finely worked out stuff, but direct, plain, in-your-face rage without any pretentions for skills (maybe they didn't always have the choice ). And it's all right.

I've said it before and I will say it again, Van Halen were the USA's answer to the Sex Pistols. They had just as big an impact in changing the face of popular music it's just that the fuckwit music critics have never given them this kind of credit or respect.

Van Halen were punker than punk.
"one foot out the door time to hit the road"

The Ramones should never be mentioned in the same breath as the Mighty Van Halen.
