Van Halen to rescue the Industry?

Back in the late 70's Van Halen was credited for saving rock. This has been noted many times by rock historians etc. Disco was killing it. Could this incarnation for 2007 do the same? This century has not been stellar, after grunge, we got rapmetal, then speedcore, now its my chemical romance etc. Really not diggin it. only thing saving it for me is Mastadoon and Lamb of god and the underground. Could VH 07 reign again from that picture looks like they are gonna try

Think you're putting a little too much faith into spEDCO.

Let's start with him rescuing his career and legacy first.....

Then we'll talk about him solving world hunger.

I would have to give Aerosmith, Ted, and Kiss more credit than VH,seeing how VH arrived late in the game. And never underestimate the Top.But VH did get people focused back on the rock side.It also seemed like new wave was being forced down our throats back in '79-80 by rock radio stations that maybe couldn't tell what direction to go.
Sandwich the B-52's and the Police between Hendrix and Zepplin?"I got yer Rock Lobster right here, pal!" VH was treated like Metallica by radio- they got very little airplay until their Black Album(1984),which was ridiculous considering by 81 rock had definitely made it's big comeback. Too much Aldo Nova,Billy Squire,Journey and 38 Special....

What planet are you on!! By 1978 Kiss was a Howdy Doody act for 8 year olds and Aerosmith was floating in a drug induced haze. Yeah these bands kicked ass from 74 to 78 but they became casualties of fame and fortune real quick. VH came along right in the nick of time. Punk was also the big deal circa 78 and 79. Oh and VH got some serious airplay in my town. Our rock stations played tunes off the 1st 3 albums quite often. Go back to your Shaolin Temple and herd some sheep.

    Friendship is rare,
Do you know what I'm sayin' to you?
    Friendship is rare.
    My derriere,
When you find out much later
    That they don't really care.
It's rare to me, can't you see?
It's rare to me, can't you see?

    Oh shit there's a bear,
Could you hand me that shotgun buddy,
    Also that chair?
    We're fighting a bear
Now your life's in grave danger
    And you don't even care.
It's rare to me, can't you see?
It's rare to me, can't you see?
    It's rare to me,
    Say a prayer for me,
    'Cause it's rare to be
    In Tenacious D.

I think that we are all going to hell if we get behind that pile, I mean come on, Ozzy has been the stronghold for metal. Not to mention that Ozzy spawned Zakk Wylde and the Black Label Society. Lets get it straight

Van Halen didnt save rock, it needed no saving, but they did reinvent it ushering in all of 80's metal. Dave laid the template for all front men and Ed laid the template for guitarists

Uh, no. Plant & Page did. Dave & Ed raised the bar and subsequently emptied it.
Why settle for something you have, if it's not as good as something you're out to get?

I never looked at it that way katie, but you make sense. Right after Sam joined VH, music went right down the toilet. His fat ass ruined everything.

If VH has any intentions of saving the industry, they sure as hell are taking their sweet ass time.
