Thumbs down $20,000 For A Jimmy Page Gibson Double-Neck Reissue?

New JIMMY PAGE Signature Model Guitar Coming This Week - Mar. 5, 2007
Launch Radio Networks reports: A new signature instrument from Gibson and LED ZEPPELIN guitarist Jimmy Page will be released this week. The guitar is based on the double neck SG that Page can be seen using in the ZEPPELIN movie "The Song Remains The Same". Page let Gibson analyze his original guitar, and there are two versions of the Jimmy Page Reissue Double Neck — one called the "Vintage Original Spec," which is limited to 250 instruments, and the "Aged" edition, which is an exact replica of Page's guitar. For the "Aged" version, Page kept serial number 001, but he played and signed numbers 002 to 026.

The Jimmy Page Reissue Double Neck "Vintage Original Spec" guitars will be available starting Wednesday (March 7) at Guitar Center locations. Pricing will be announced today (Monday, March 5), but they'll probably cost around $20,000, if not more. The "Aged" versions will be available on March 18, at Guitar Center "Platinum Nights" events. For more information, go to guitarcenter.com.

    Too expensive for me...
Why settle for something you have, if it's not as good as something you're out to get?

Those guitars are just for collectors. The same people who put vintage guitars in bank vaults as an investment. Guitars are meant to be played. I also saw somewhere that Gibson was going to make a replica of Eric Claptons 335. Its a bit much that Gibson and Fender have made so many signature models. And as far as "aging" guitar goes, you have to earn those battle scars. Also how can a guitar be a signature model of a signature model? The Les Paul is Les Pauls signature model guitar.

You can buy a production EDS 1275 for a little over 3 grand, and it is the same doubleneck guitar Pagey plays, except for the pickups are Burstbuckers.

On Page's Les Paul...his has some modifications that I guess they deem it worthy to give it another signature. Shaved neck, parallel/series pot, etc. I'd rather have a Jimmy Page sig, than a Zakk Wylde, Joe Perry, or Ace Frehley sigs. I certainly agree with the signature of a signature, but what else are you going to call it? I guess you could call it "The Jimmy Page Spec Les Paul." Hell I dunno.

I can almost see the Jimmy Page model Les Paul model...but having all these signature models cheapens what the les paul is all about. Who would use these guitars live unless they were in a tribute band? Customizing a guitar should be an individualistic statement made by the player. Take the new 25 grand EVH fender frankie model. What made that original guitar special is that Eddie made himself a guitar that was useful. That guitar and only that guitar has the history behind it. The reproductions are just made to take peoples money, they have none of the "voodoo" of the original.

I'm not picking on Gibson, I like and use Gibsons. Same goes for Fender. Ironically I prefer some of the heavier 70's strats that collectors don't like so much. Fender also has way to many signature strats and teles. The original designs are great and the guitars stand on thier own.

I remember when people in the 80's said Strats from the 1970's were shit and you had to have a Pre CBS one for it to be any good. Now I see collectors snagging early 70's Strats.

A good guitar is a good guitar. Not all the Gibsons and Fenders made in the 50's and 60's were good. Some were.

It's all a fad and Gibson and Fender are cashing in on it not to mention guys like Jimmy Page who no loger go out and rock like they used to. What Gibson gets is an increadable profit margine and some credability.

Gibson and Fender wouldn't need the credibilty of signature guitars if they would build quality intruments like they did in the past. Thats not to say they don't make quality instruments now. You don't need a signature model if an artist used your guitar....thats endorsment enough.
