They actually think it was a "great performance" and are amazed at how slash played the solo on ATBL.. disgraceful!

I hate to say this out loud, but I'll be damned if I'm going to follow suit that seems to be norm for most band fan forums.
But that sounds exactly like most other shit I've read here about some of Dave's work. Fans liking it no matter how bad it is. Like a bunch of turkey's, every time you clap they gobble.
Helps me understand why American Idol is popular.

here is a quote from a post on the VR forum....lolololololol
"I always knew Slash was a great guitarist, but I never thought he would be able to handle the speed and complexity of a Van Halen solo, but it totally ripped the shit out of that song, I was very impressed"
bahahahahahahahahaha
when slash was in GNR he sucked as a guitarist. every time I heard him live I always thought he sounded like shit.
I dig Slash's work in GNR, but it's clear he's lost a "step"....Scott Weiland needs to fucking OD already....

Speed and complexity? Fuck almighty!! What a bunch of dumbasses.
I've never been a Slash fan. I think he's got one of the worst tones of all time...NASAL.

GNR was awsome back in the day. but they sounded way different in the studio than live. they sucked live.

AMEN!
he def isnt the most talented guitarist and wouldnt make any list i'd put together.
The thing with Slash in GNR was the way his parts combined with Izzy's to make this massive sound. It's not quite the same with this Dave Kushner dude (or whatever his name is.... actually he's the only one that seemed to be respectful to VH at all in this whole mess. He even spent $30,000 on a guitar for the gig. Maybe they should have let him play the lead?)

Those folks were watching some other show, because what I saw was a soup sandwich. VR sucked ass! Speed and complexity, Ha! What a joke.
I dig Slash, but I never expected him to get close to pulling off an EVH jam that night. He didn't! He didn't come close at all, but I still dig Slash. And by the way, didn't I see VR's singer leave back stage with two sheep on leashes and Joe Thunder when it was all over? I knew there was something wrong with that dude.
I doubt I'll ever see VR without getting free tickets on a night when there is nothing else to do.
DAMN! I still cannot see ELLYLLIONS picture.

The only thing Slash did that I thought was good was one of the leads at the end of Paradise City where he really takes off.
That, and the song The Garden which Alice Cooper sings on with Axl.
Slash's style is more suited to Aerosmith covers than a Vh cover with regard to his guitar choice, style and approach.

Hey VR,
Get a different singer and bring this guy in with Slash...

Nice. So they liked fem-bot Weiland's tube-snake-turd-dance? How very feminine...
CVH was meant to be played with force and testosterone.

The thing with GnR for me all the way around was the strength of the band as a unit. Slash wasn't ever anything incredible as a guitarist...about the only thing he did that was distinctive was to play a Les Paul and not bother with the two-handed tapping thing at a time when everyone else had Charvels or Jacksons and was copping EVH's licks. Axl wasn't anything great as a singer, either...but when they all got together, they came up with some great tunes and made a hell of a noise together.Originally posted by FORD

I didn't see the ATBL performance, but the jist of what everyone hates about it here is that it wasn't along the lines of what VH did with it, and there's no way it could be. Slash is not EVH and can't play in the EVH style, just as if VH were to cover VR's music, EVH is not going to play it the way Slash would, and Weiland isn't Roth plain and simple. Expecting him to perform other than his own style is unrealistic. Of course on the VR forum they loved it. It's a VR forum! VR was not the problem that night. Maybe they didn't do ATBL the way we'd all like to see it done, but someone had to play coz VH didn't show. That's the problem with that HOF event. VH should have been there, Dave, Al and MA (who was). EVH probably could have pulled it together for the night. He's a pro, a "hall of famer" now. He should have been there. I wonder if the Dave, Al and Ed will regret not being there for their big night?

I disagree. They should have tried to rip those songs a new ass0, out of repsect.Originally posted by mickeba

slash played that song horribly, i was like holy he's already screwin it up right at the beginning. Slash probably still thinks he's better than Eddie. It seemed like they were trying a new style with it but failed miserably. Then again the band should've been there to see their own induction. Do they forget 96 already? People were choked, thats why VH was largely unsuccesful after 96. Dave was gone, people were gone. Thats that. If Sammy VH tried a new album now it would barely pass Gold. If they can get back to what they said they did, a tour this summer with original lineup, people may forgive them even if it happens to be a fall tour or early next year. They do need a new album however, big time with dave. And no chemical brothers shit either dave!
