    Whitesnake "1987" 20th Anniversary edition

When I heard this was coming out I thought it would be an essential purchase, "Whitesnake" or "1987" is without doubt one of THE definitive albums of 1980`s rock.

However, I felt pretty let down when I read the tracklisting. There are NO previously unreleased demos or alternate versions included and no "1987" vintage live performances.

This is disappointing as I have various bootlegs including an officially recorded live show from Tokyo in 1988 and demos from the album sessions that I would have enjoyed in better quality.

    Here it is:

    CD:

    01 Still Of The Night
    02 Bad Boys
03 Give Me All Your Love
    04 Looking For Love
    05 Crying In The Rain
    06 Is This Love
    07 Straight For The Heart
    08 Don`t Turn Away
    09 Children Of The Night
    10 Here I Go Again `87
11 You`re Gonna Break My Heart Again
12 Still Of The Night (Live)*
13 Here I Go Again (Live)*
    14 Is This Love (Live)*
15 Give Me All Your Love (Live)*

*Live tracks from "Live In The Shadow Of The Blues"

    DVD:

    01 Still Of The Night
    02 Here I Go Again `87
    03 Is This Love
04 Give Me All Your Love
05 Give Me All Your Love*
    06 Is This Love*
    07 Here I Go Again*
    08 Still Of The Night*

*Taken from "Live...In The Still Of The Night"

The only reason for buying this is to get the promo videos that set MTV on fire back in the day or maybe some of you will want it because it is the UK track listing rather than the US version.

    Shite.

I'll probably still pick it up.

Would rather have seen a full-length concert dvd put out with the touring lineup of Campbell, Sarzo, Aldridge, Adrian V and Coverversion, but such is life.

I've got everything that is on this release...so, why bother?

      This IS a letdown.

I have a question regarding the recording of the "Whitesnake" album.... Why exactly did Coverdale fire Neil Murray, Ansley Dunbar & John Sykes??? That lineup had a lot of energy and Sykes had a very unique sound, he is still a VERY underrated guitar player.

Dunbar: Never a band member, filled in on a session basis after Cozy Powell left.

Sykes: Fell out with Coverdale and had left the band before the album was even finished.

Murray: Finished his parts in 1986 then went back to the UK and read in a magazine months later that he had been replaced by Rudy Sarzo, who Coverdale had his eye on when Whitesnake supported Quiet Riot in `84. Speculation says he wasn`t good looking enough for the "1987" touring line up and promo videos.

I agreed with that statement until recently.

I now think "1987" was a bloody good album for what it was, although I still can't get into "Slip of the Tounge".

Most people know nothing aboot Whitesnake except the permed hair/shoulder pads/Bon Jovi period, which is a shame. One thing I hate is people judging bands by their most commercially successful stuff.

That's how you get comments like

                    Yes, Adrian Vandenberg....

I always liked "Burning Heart", '83-ish... Maybe one of the 1st power rock ballads ??

And Tommy Aldridge was? What about Vivian Campbell , later on? Both those dudes are pretty ugly. I think Coverdale was probably a controlling prick ($$) and guys (Sykes, Murray, Powell) with any balls and self respect said "fuck it". They probably realized werent gonna get a fair share. Fuckin Sarzo, he's made a career off sliding into someones spot after all the work is done. Hasnt written a fuckin lick in his life....whatta whore.

                        Well, no.

But at least you could hide him behind a drum kit.

Whitesnake was an OK band, I guess, but their singer tried too hard to sound like Sammy Hagar and that made it good, but kinda bad at the same time, too.

this is one cd that needed a remaster. the original sounds harsh. SLide It In original sounds great. I could never understand why the S/T sounded so terrible.

but..... why include current live footage on a 20th ann instead of original old live stuff from the same time ? makes no sense why artists do this. I wont be buying this unless I hear the remaster is a huge improvement and not loud like most of todays remasters.

                            what a let down.
