You know, every generation gets pissed about whatever the kids are listening to. I've given up. Nowadays? I just try to find the funniest fucking shit available. Fall Out Boy? Not very funny. I have no fucking idea what's going on there...quirky breaks. They suck ass. If you wanna dole out a quirky break? At least make it un-repetitive..and funny. Modest Mouse used to be funny...they had that one song where a cop car got hit. Now they've got some dude that used to be in The Smiths in the band. He's probably fucking their earholes by now...or anything he can find! It's a no-win situation when some faggot from The Smiths is fucking your indy eye socket during funny song writing. This is kinda off-topic, but Frank Zappa's "Crew Slut" is really fucking funny. Especially where the central scrutinizer busts' out the "she was sucking cock" line.

Back on topic....that particular song was followed-up with another song by my favorite funniest band of the moment. Thirty Seconds To Mars' "YOU'RE KILLING ME!" song. This was on some fucking playlist I happened across....fucking straight out of "Crew Slut" into that shit where the dude is screaming like he's dying!! I fucking cried...Zappa's doo-wop shit followed by that screaming fucker?

Not a rock band, pure pop: maybe if you get out of the mindset that bands like this are being called "rock" but are actually pop you might actually be able to listen to it and take it as musical fluff - the songs are well crafted, but generic, they have fairly decent hooks so expect them to be in your head all day....

It's sort of "entry level" heavy music for tenny boppers, like Green Day were around Dookie....

true, i do love 80's metal. so i guess you have me there. to me though, you can at least rock out to hair metal. a lot of them took it way too far looking like chicks, especially poison whome i'm not fond of anyway. although i didn't grow up in the 80's, when i look at that music it seemed like it was all about rockin out and havin a good time for the most part. and even if the band was just another copy cat band, they still at least had some good guitar riffs and still soloed. now it just seems that if you strum some power chords, nobody gives a shit if you can play well or not and soloes aren't even heard of on pop radio at all. it's not about rockin out anymore.....which is why i can't get into it.

I admit that I was into the hair metal thing to an extent. I liked Ratt and Dokken, but when bands like Trixter started getting heavy rotation on MTV I was replused.

Even as a young child, though, I got into great bands. I was 6 years old when I started listening to my uncle's cassettes and 8-tracks. Bands like Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, The Knack(whose guitarist is gay), Ted Nugent, Heart, Zeppelin, Cheap Trick, and of course Van Halen.

When grunge came around I dove right into it. It was more like the music I had originally fallen in love with.
