One Year Of Official Support For Windows XP Left......

    http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/...ds-in-365-days

Extended support for Windows XP ends in 365 days
Any time in this next year is probably a good time to shift to Windows 7

THE END OF EXTENDED SUPPORT for Microsoft's Windows XP operating system (OS) is now exactly one year away.

Microsoft acknowledged the countdown to the end of support for Windows XP and Microsoft Office 2003 almost a year ago, advising back then that it was is a good time for organisations that still have PCs running the software to migrate to a newer version, such as Windows 7.

Today marks the 365-day countdown, so the advice that Microsoft customers must abandon the Windows XP ship is now more relevant than ever.

Software specialist 1E has said that companies which still haven't upgraded will find it difficult to migrate in this relatively short amount of time.

According to the firm, less than a quarter of UK companies have completed the migration of their PC estate to Windows 7, with 40 percent still "in the process of upgrading".

"Organisations that are not yet off the starting blocks or only a little way down the track are highly unlikely to complete before the Microsoft deadline," 1E's CEO Sumir Karayi said.

Microsoft said last year that though it acknowledged there will be some organisations still not ready to migrate to a newer version of Windows, it would be "unnecessary for [it] to extend the support life cycle" because history has proven that organisations don't generally use it past this extended support date. We're sure there are many companies out there that would disagree.

We've contacted Microsoft to see whether its opinion is still the same, and whether it will be offering free upgrades to more recent versions of the software for those left behind.

Work is still on XP. I don't think we're going to change yet. Hell we're still running an outdated version of IE.

Going to Google for email and stuff, but we are NOT to select Chrome as our default browser.

I was using Chrome for a couple of years there but recently I've been having all sorts of problems and have moved back to Firefox.

I think some third party shit especially search engines are causing havoc.

Firefox crashes on me at least three times a week. Come home in the morning with the "we're sorry..." window. I even tried leaving multiple tabs on FF open with no porn on them, and it still crashes.

Haven't tried Chrome. I've given Google enough of my info since I bought a Galaxy Tab a couple months ago.

Biggest problem with Firefox at the moment is that it's not playing well with Java, but that's more Oracle's fault than Mozilla's. Sucks that Oracle took over Sun.... Java has sucked ever since.

As for Chrome, the main reason I don't use it is because Google - being one of the worst ad-spammers on the planet - doesn't allow full blocking of ads, even with plugins like AdBlock Plus the way that Firefox does. And Google's own spyware and data-mining practices would prevent me from ever using Google Chrome itself, but if you really prefer the Chromium browser engine, I would definitely try Comodo Dragon. Only downside here is that Comodo only makes software for Windows PC's, so it won't be much help to the Mac or Linux users. Of course the Linux repositories should have the non-Google'd Chromium browser anyway.

As for the mobile devices.... if you don't like Google's version of Android, you might want to try Mozilla's. Don't have any mobile toys at the moment myself, so this is not an endorsement, just info....

I have IE6 and XP from 2007 I have my system disks and reload and completely roboot my computer a couple times a year.

Never leave your PC on over night plugged into the internet it will turn aon a hotfix you to oblivion.

I NEVER have issues unless I update thru microsoft or load Norton or visit sited like youtube that work with micro and norton in order to create a false need for different software to stimulate micros pocket book.

Micro even makes some sites unnavailable to me unless I upgrade to EI7 wich is about fazed out .

Micro forces those site to only accept IE7 and above to force me to buy new shit...they are now going to forcably ruin XP ...sweet....

I only know one thing about computers and software the ONLY way they can go wrong is if someone makes a program to make them go wrong.....programs like IE7 IE 8 Win & Vista...so called faster internet pay more money ...then down grade the speed and lie to everyone ... then ask for extra monies to get back where you were 2 years ago speed wise.

They have done the same with television it is all HD always has been they filter it to you and ask for more money to see what already is...whattever...bla bla..

    But I am also a cunt .

But am I not being a good citizen by not following the doctrines...?

Hold on there is a knock at my door............it's the bad guy patrole.....cuse I won't blindly play the game.

If I had to for work, I would have both feet in the mix /grid but I don't so I must now, they are going to force the rest of us.

I am waiting to see if all these Upgrades are free..?

I love Firefox. Haven't even had the desire to try Chrome. I do keep IE somewhere in my start menu as an emergency backup if some weird site won't allow Firefox but that's been a long time.

I only use or try Chrome if Firefox is misbehaving... Most the time it doesn't resolve anything. Bad programs...
