    Wolfie or Mike? And Why?

If the tour ever happens when Ed get out of rehab, who should play bass, Wolfie or Mike?

I say Mike 'cause he's part of the original CVH.

But so many people here hate Mike, so I wonder how many would really rather have Wolfie when it comes right down to it.

I say Mikey, because he's the original. Also because he's Sammy's bud and a member of "The Other Half."

And also because his hot sauce is so tangy.

I was living Van Halen -- classic Van Halen -- before most of you were itches in your mommy's crotch. What does that have to do with anything? Beats me. I just like to put it out there to try and make it seem like my opinion matters more than yours.

    Coz he's the original

    Why Wolf:

Look, we gotta get fat-ass Sammy out of the picture here...

Ed, Al and Mike all played with him for years.

And Dave did that dumb-ass tour, so he's not innocent either. (Although, you gotta love the way he ignored his ass through most of it.)

It's all bullshit. Not a single word about which one of them would play better. Yeah, music is secondary.

    Chill man..

    EVH, AVH and

    DAVE !

have all commented on Wolf's playing abilities.
I guess we are trusting the words of the most
important Van Halen members regarding the musical
    abilities of EVH Jnr...

Allright then. On the one hand we're all aware that Mike's a poor musician. On the second hand Wolfie is much too young and unexperienced to play bass, and we know nothing about his abilities. So I'd say Mike, but I hope there's still the third (and probably the best) option - someone fresh, who could really inspire Eddie and Dave.

Remember that bass is not just a low-frequency guitar. It's completely different animal and the foundation of a band.

You really mean that? Just bring in somebody?

You're entitled to your opinion but I couldn't disagree more.

I mean it. Changes are necessary. The Van Halens are burnt-out, they need something new, but Mike can't give it to them. Why not use someone else's creativity? You know, like energetic vampires.

AFAIK, Eddie already called to Billy Sheehan.

Think about the moment, if it ever happens: You're in the arena, or stadium, and the lights go down...

I want all 4 original guys. Otherwise, a little bit of the magic won't be there.

Isn't that why the torch never got lit up back when all this started?

Mike. Part of the CVH sound came from Mike's backing vocals. How are Wolfie's pipes? We know he learned to play guitar from his dad but hopefully not any singing. I hope his singing training didn't involve karaoke sessions of How Many Say I

Hopefully Eddie will come to his senses while in rehab (or shortly thereafter) and make amends with Sobolewski. It's required in AA anyway. It's either step 8 or 9. Don't remember which, cause I ain't a member.

BTW, Val and Wolfie are in the new People magazine and Wolfie doesn't seem at all interested in the job.

"Her son Wolfie started drums at 9 and guitar at 11, says Bertinelli (with Wolfie at home and , below with Eddie in 89). This past year Ed has been picking him up from school and they play together. Though Eddie's stay in rehab means no tour this summer, Wolfie isn't disappointed. (WVH " My dad's taking care of himself. I also think I'm too young for the experience, because I know there are alot of bad things out there."
Take that for what it's worth. And considering it's People magazine, that probably ain't much.

Well, some members here had the torch lit. Funny to see the one's with the small flames to indicate an orginal member missing.

Having all members onstage would be plenty of magic, but just this moment, all we have left are the CVH albums and bootleg videos floating around the net.

    Mike.

Wolfie's too young for that madness and Mike was an original member. Let him do the reunion and then everyone does their own thing.

Better Wolfie work on his school work and of course practicing his ass off.

Well, duh? I choose Mike. Background vocals are going to be a must if or when a tour does happen with Roth. Not sure if Wolfie has any range, Im almost pretty sure he wont know the timing as well either. I dont give a fuck how well Dada and Uncle NeckBrace says he can play. I know Mike can sing and thump an open E and that's all I need to know.

There won't be any VH 2007 tour... Odds are pretty much in favor of there never being any VH any more.

This whole discussion seems like a waste of imagination unless we were all sitting around with beer in hand and nothing better to do on a Saturday nite.

It's 1pm here and the drink of the hour is Rye and Coke.

Regardless of what VH will do, or wont do, it's still better to use the imagination than waste it on another band that did reunite...Like the Ploice. Yikes!

I don't understand how people can say Mike's a poor musician. I remember reading an interview with Ed yeara ago and he was asked they go tMike to join. He basically said that him and Al were into playing long, complicated Cream style jams. Every bass player they tried, couldn't kep up. Mike came in and according to Ed, they "threw him every curve in the book" and was able to keep up with them. Fast forward 30 years, thousands of shows and millions of albums later and Mike's gone. Al said about Billy Sheehan-"He over plays everything". Al and Mike are a rock solid foundation. Is Mike the best bass player? No. For Van Halen, IMO he is. So my answer would be Mike over Wolf anyday. I'm sure Wolf will be a great musician in his own right, but how many shows has Wolf ever played? Can he fall on his face live and recover? Can he keep the time with Al, if his monitors go out or if Dad's having an off night/ Can he improvise? And can he handle playing in front of huge crowds or can he handle criticism or boos or flying objects coming his way? I know Mike can.

I'm so tired of reading that same lame as line. Mike's not a poor musician. Just what the fuck do you think any other base player would have done? Exactly the same fucking thing b/c that's what Ed wanted to hear him play. Ed played bass on It's About Time, Up for Breakfast, and Learning to See on Best of Both Worlds. I certainly didn't hear any stellar bass playing coming from Ed "the God" Van Halen. Bull shit. Mike would clean up Wolf.

Ed is not a bass player - he's a guitarist. Bass and guitar are two different instruments, like piano and trumpet. Different phrases, different functions in the band. It's not a bassist's role to play what a guitarist tells him to do. It's a rock band, not an orchestra to play from the score.

Suppose I'd have to give the nod to Mike Anthony, mostly because he was part of CVH...

If I'm telling the truth about it, I'd have to say after the last flopped reunion attempt the idea of Dave and Ed getting back together doesn't do much of anything for me anymore.

I'd rather see all the vaulted CVH material released than see four guys get back together and make a belated attempt to flog oldies for cash only because they're unable to create new material...ain't nothing they're gonna come up with now in terms of playing those classic tunes is gonna match what they did back in the day when they were hungry and in ass-kicking mode. Outside of Dave, the rest of them just don't have that attitude anymore. And if it's gonna be oldies only, then it may as well be film of oldies played when the band did kick some ass.

Far as CVH reuniting, I'm over it.

It's a stupid question. No one in their right mind would pick Wolfgang no matter how much you may dislike Anthony.
