    Breaking Van Halen News

    Friday, April 13, 2007 - 02:41 AM, (Reads)

VAN HALEN CHANGES CONTINUE - Los Angeles, CA

Edward Van Halen, Alex Van Halen and Wolfgang Van Halen, the currently confirmed members of legendary 1980's rock band Van Halen, have announced that after a very involved process, they have found a new voice for the group in Sanjaya Malakar. There is no official statement as to the status of David Lee Roth, who was only recently confirmed to have returned to the band he co-founded. Representatives for Roth could not be reached for comment.

Sanjaya Malakar comes from Seattle, Washington and recently jumped into the public eye as a vocalist on the television program "American Idol" (where he has sang such hits as "Signed Sealed Delivered (I'm Yours)" and "Ain't No Mountain High Enough"). It was not immediately clear what Sanjaya's future on the show would be in light of this breaking announcement.

"We are extremely excited about our future and possibly recording a new album. The addition of Sanjaya, who is a great singer, brought to the band new options to keep Van Halen's music interesting. He's also a great guy that believes in what Van Halen believes, making the group stronger than ever! It's the best thing that could happen to us now - and Wolfgang has somebody in the band he can actually relate to age wise now!" says drummer and founding member Alex Van Halen - and the good feelings are mutual.

Malakar says he is "Very excited" to begin his work with the band that has been together since 1974 - fifteen years before Malakar himself was born.

The surprise announcements certainly don't stop there, however. The new Van Halen lineup is once again being managed by Ray Danniels, President and C.E.O. of S.R.O. Management Inc. and Anthem Entertainment Group. Until recently, Van Halen had been managed by Irving Azoff's management team, Azoff Music Management Group, Inc.

There is no further word on the status of guitarist Edward Van Halen, who announced recently that he would be entering rehabilitation for substance abuse issues.

Updates to this breaking story to follow as soon as they become available.

    Twistin' by the pool.

Why settle for something you have, if it's not as good as something you're out to get?

Which is, of course, why you started a thread asking what Hagar songs could be played on the Roth tour?

Dangerous turf for that kinda talk, my friend.

Well, either way, the fridge door/balls thing can be arranged, I guess...

No I asked "What hagar songs wouldn't make people vomit if played by CVH". I couldn't think of any and neither could anyone else.

Just bringing it up as a thread should have gotten you banned.

Anyway - stay on topic. This thread is about Van Halen's new vocalist.

They may as well have kept Gary.

What do you know; it's Friday the 13th. Just our luck!

No, no, Steve - Sanjaya is the better choice for sure. This will allow Van Halen to reconnect with the youth of America, since Sanjaya's so popular with teenage girls and whatnot.

Either way, since it's official, I guess we're just going to have to roll with it, one way or another.

Van Halen will officially be touring this summer tour with opening act Whitesnake.

It will be Van Halen's first time back to the road since 2004's American summer jaunt with Sammy Hagar. Initial plans involve placing the stage in a central location in appropriate venues, allowing fans much closer proximity to the performance area.

As with all Van Halen tours, It will feature Edward Van Halen on guitar, Alex Van Halen on drums - but this summer's tour will feature Edward's son Wolfgang on bass (replacing the departed original bassist Michael Anthony) as well as new vocalist, American Idol sensation Sanjaya Malakar.

Tickets for Van Halen go on sale this Thursday, April 26 at 12 NOON via Ticketmaster Online at http://ticketmaster.com. Tickets may also be charged by phone at the following Northeast Ticketmaster numbers: 207.775.3331, 617.931.2000, 413.733.2500, 212.307.7171, 802.862.5300, 518.476.1000,
401.331.2211, and 757.671.8100. There is a limit of 6 tickets per person.

Van Halen is said to be "making a considerable effort on creating a more comfortable live experience for the fans without all the drama of lead vocalist problems". Due to Sanjaya Malakar's extreme popularity with teenagers, Van Halen and Ticketmaster highly recommend that tickets be purchased well in advance.

Van Halen will be creating a special web site for the 2007 summer tour that they hope to launch within a couple of weeks. Stay tuned for more info.

Actually i can't wait until next week when they announce

George Bush will be the new singer with VH4 to reconnect with the elderly population of America.

Tour Dates will shurely include al lot of nursing homes.

We should all toss a nice salad then.

Holy shit...the news just keeps on coming this morning!

    EDDIE'S OUT!

    ***

HOLLYWOOD - Troubled guitar legend Edward Van Halen has completed his stint at a rehabilitation facility and has reunited with his band for a summer tour featuring new vocalist Sanjaya Malakar of American Idol.

Edward Van Halen was spotted having brunch on Thursday at celebrity hangout the Polo Lounge in Los Angeles.

Van Halen was last seen outside the Betty Ford Center in Palm Springs, California, where he was seeking help for alcohol abuse.

Edward had been in the in-patient rehabilitation program after revealing his alcoholism in a press statement. He was expected to stay there for 35 to 40 days.

His representative says the guitarist is "as good as he's bound to get."

This is not Van Halen's first visit to rehab--he checked into the Cumberland Heights treatment center in Nashville, Tennessee, seeking treatment for cocaine and alcohol abuse several years ago.

God damn...my e-mail updates are EXPLODING this morning!

Downey Jr. Offers Help to Van Halen
    By WENN | Friday, April 13, 2007
HOLLYWOOD - Robert Downey Jr. has offered his support to 1980's rock star Edward Van Halen as he battles his alcohol problems.

Edward Van Halen recently checked into rehab after revealing he "Wasn't at 100%", and actor Downey Jr., who has fought his own addictions, wants to help.

A source reveals the Chaplin star has reached out to Van Halen to help him cope with his issues and has offered to support the guitarist when he's out of rehab.

The insider says, "Robert knows exactly what Eddie is going through... He volunteered to call Valerie (Bertinelli, Van Halen's ex wife) even, with encouragement in regards to Eddie's progress, but Ed suggested they wait until she's not so upset regarding their son Wolfgang's new position as bassist in the band so they can all sit down for a long talk."

Well...look at this...guess Sammy's gotta weigh in, too...

Sammy Hagar: I Did 'Right' By Edward Van Halen
    FRIDAY APRIL 13, 2007 05:25 AM EDT

    By Lesley Messer

Though Sammy Hagar and Van Halen split two years ago, the veteran rocker has spoken a word publicly about the breakup – and continues to do so now.

"I kind of ignored it and tried to just continue to live my life," Hagar tells INSIDER NEWSMARKET. "People can say or think whatever they want ...so in my reality, it's kind of irrelevant. I'm always the kind of person that does the right thing and keeps my side of the street clean, ya dig?"

He also confirms what he's asserted previously about how his solo career is "great", and while he's excited about the future, he'd like to "rekindle the relationship" with Van Halen at some point.

"Every girl I've ever dated I have respect for, don't ya know, and I always try to leave them in good terms," says Hagar. "I don't see the necessity to be friends with anyone you've dated but definitely out of respect of the time, you have to be kind of respectful and that's what I try to do, same like with Eddie and Alex and the whole Van Halen jive, ya get it?"

Since the split with Van Halen, Hagar has released an album called "Livin' it Up", which sold moderately.

"I don't really talk about Van Halen at all but I will say I am really happy and everything's really good for me right now. Yeah. But you know, there's times when I think, 'You know, Sam, what you guys had was pure magic', and that's kinda hard to forget, especially with Mikey following me everywhere," Hagar says. "He's my best friend, so I love spending time with him..It's [also nice] having someone on your team, because the world has a very different perception of you than the person you really are, straight up."

In that regard, he says, "I'm just a really normal, sensitive kind of go-about-my business everyday kinda businessman guy. People see the red and yellow, and they either read things or they see things and they don't really know that I'm just this guy that gets up and drinks a shot or three of tequila in the morning and hangs out with his friends and plays his guitar and rocks out and goes about his day. I'm not perfect obviously, but I'm just a normal – like any other dude that's just kickin' ass, throwing it down and living his life."

"My goal in life is to do the right thing, which I always think I end up doing, you know? I feel so bad for someone like Eddie who's not allowed to make normal mistakes we all make," he says. "I've had plenty of times on tour or somewhere where I freaked out and went crazy and did things when I was right around his age, years back."

As he sees it, "Mistakes aren't bad, and I've made one or two of them – but I'm always trying to be a better person."

Hmm...I wonder if the set list will still be DLR era exclusively or if they're going to try and make Sanjaya sing Hagar stuff?

    Maybe they'll announce it soon...
