I heard that he wasn't allowed to take his guitar in, though that hasn't been verified. On one hand, I could see reasons why not, as you could hang yourself with a guitar string if you were suicidal enough.
On the other hand, for a musician such as Ed, having a guitar with him might provide a healthy channel for whatever he's going through. Hell, I'd set him up with a guitar, an amp, and a recorder so he could put it on tape. Might get some riffs out of this whole thing worthy of a Van HALEN album.
