It`s not all doubled up riffs and twin harmonys but two interlocking parts that make no sense without each other with mindblowing arrangements and amazing...erm..."discipline". It must have been a lot of work for Robert Fripp and Adrian Belew (two guitarists who are equally famous for thier individual work) to get that stuff so tight, to the point where entire songs would consist of two intricately weaving guitar parts.

Anyone interested in some HOT guitar work should check out "Discipline", "The construKction of light", "The power to believe" or the excellent live "Absent lovers".
Cheers Badguy, King Crimson will be on my lst of things to check out.

    Yeah!

Fripp said that Belew, Levin and Bruford were so good that he felt almost like a spare part in his own band.

"Discipline" is an awesome record and one that too few people have heard.

I don't play guitar, so this definately a "favourite" lists rather than a "best", which I am not qualified to discuss.

For me, a guitar player has to maintain my interest over a decent amount of time and always excite me.

    1) Tony Iommi (the riffs, the thickness of the sound, the groove and heaviness. No frills, just kills)
    2) Dimebag. (bought Vulgar dialay of Power the day it came out, a it crushed me. Someone who actually pushed extreme metal forward and combined groove, melody AND heaviness, which is a rare thing)
    3) Jeff Beck (really gotten into his back catalogue after joining this site a year or so ago, and realising how unbelievable his music is)
    4) Slash (as soon as he plays, you know it's him.)
    5) Jake E Lee. (Love his Ozzy-era and Badlands is one of my favourite bands. Under-appreciated, in my opinion.)

Other people I love: Schenker, Randy Rhoades, Dave Mustaine, Angus Young, James Hetfield just for the sheer asskickin riffs on the first five records), Hendrix, Page, Nugent, and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Could go on and on about players I like a lot, but there's only a few who constantly make me smile

    I'd have to say...

    1) Ed (in his prime...for the obvious reasons)
    2) Brian May (for his tone)
    3) Tony Iommi (for inventing metal, and opening the door for do many others)
    4) Pete Townshend (for his compositional skills)
    5) Slash (cos he's so damn cool rather than his technical ability. Plus he writes a catchy solo)

    If I was allowed a 6th...Rory...

It's almost like a concept record that noone in the band was conceptualizing....the first time I heard it was during a road trip to Sebastian Inlet (surfing). Think A1A, lots of krypto weed, and beer. After like the third or fourth I heard Belew go, "this is a dangerous place" , I asked the pot-addled driver who the band was. He said it was King Crimson, and he wasn't going to play any more of my shitty metal tapes or something.

Sounds pretty cool. I played in a blues/jazz type band (never this good though), so I can appreciate this stuff. Not the kind of music to listen to while tired and driving. Thanks Ford. Is this at a church?

Looks like it. And it wouldn't be unusual for Phil Keaggy to be playing in a church, though I'm not sure about the other guys' religious beliefs.

I knew I'd end up changing this list 50 billion times, so here goes:

    1. Roope Latvala
    2. Alexi Laiho
    3. Muhammed Suicmez (From the German band Necrophagist. Don't like the band, just Muhammed's playing)

    4. Paul Gilbert
    5. Al Di Meola
