New UK cover for Best Of Both Worlds

Just seen this today HMV London

It is a cardboard outer cover that slips over the original striped cover.

Weird bescause on the cardboard sleeve it says the best of Van Halen & makes no mention of The Best of Both Worlds title at all. But slide the cover off and in your hand you have the BOBW cd

A nice cheap way of re branding the same package.

Anybody know if they are using this cover anywhere else?

Weird. Haven't seen it here, but then again, cd sections in the stores are getting smaller all of the time. In less than 5 years, cd's will have gone the way of the 8-track, album, and cassette tape.

I think online music purchasing is going to eventually dominate the market. There will probably still be used music stores, but I think that's the only viable market for store purchased music in the future. I have about six malls within an hour's drive of where I live - three of them no longer have music stores AT ALL.

When it's so convenient to just pay at home, download and burn (and especially so much CHEAPER than paying $17 in the store for a new album), it's really no wonder music stores are starting to look rather barren these days.

Hell, it was ALWAYS hard to try and find something not in the mainstream, but these days it's plain fucking impossible and a lot of times you can't even special order things...

I've heard of this release. It's interesting that it has the CVH logo.

What probably happenned is that WB spent a lot of money designing cover art for the needless Van HALEN greatest hits Volume III (the REAL years) which they were supposedly going to release in preparation for the tour.

This would explain the Van HALEN logo on the package - rather than throw away the new cover completely, they slapped it on the existing shitty compilation, hoping they would sell a few more copies.

Of course now, it's blatantly false advertising. Putting a Van HALEN logo on the front and having "Upchuck for Breakfast" inside.

Maybe they should have used this cover instead.....

I think Ford's right. I didn't really look that closely or follow the link, but the cover DOES say "The Very Best of Van Halen", which was the purported greatest hits III title, correct? Bet you 20 to 1 that's the case - recycled cover art for a cancelled project.
