EDDIE WHO? Anyone expecting Eddie Van Halen’s appearance at Phoenix International Raceway Friday to yield some insight into the reclusive and iconic rocker’s personality was bitterly disappointed. Van Halen was on hand as an honorary race official and two introduce two Fender guitars, one a limited-edition replica of his famed handmade “Frankenstein” that he played in the early days of Van Halen in the late 1970s, the other a Stratocaster to be given to the race winner.
There’s just one problem: Van Halen didn’t talk. Not about the guitars, not about racing, not about his just-concluded stint in rehab or why he and brother Alex skipped their recent induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He made no opening remarks, no prepared text. Nada, zip, zilch.
SpeedTv reporting that Eddie continues to dissappoint his fans.
