Max, the red one on the upper right what is that? A strat from the 80's? It looks very cool.
It's an '83 American Standard Strat. Elvis also owns one. It's when CBS was priming up to sell the company and they were putting out really decent stuff again just like prior to when CBS purchased Fender in the early 60's. It's ironic cos for so many years, Fender collectors always considered post-CBS shit to be just that, SHIT. Then near the end of CBS' run in the early 80's, their product became highly valuable to collectors.
Anyway, the red one is my first guitar and I could never bring myself to sell it. I've only had to change a few things over the years like the bone nut, frets and pickups. Other than that, it's still in tact and has one of/if not the BEST neck ever!!!
Oh, I recently changed the pickguard from it's original white to the red pearl.
Here's a pic prior to changing it:
EAT US AND SMILE!!!!
That scratchplate change looks farken grate Maximus !!!!
A real head turner !!
BABY PANA 2 IS Coming !! All across the land, let the love and beer flow !
Love ya Mary Frances!
Yeah, you don't often see red on red on a Strat...
BTW, I'm kinda digging the pickguard on the blue Strat...
Is that a mij Fender, or something else completely ??
I love guitars...
They play like a dream. Just bought myself a 1996 Fender Strat Custom shop with a birdseye neck #28 out of 30 made. I just can't stop playing. Problem is, I can't post pictures......
Help me out fellas...
Should I buy this ??
I have two scalloped Fender Jap necks that could go on it...
Elvis, that shade of blue is beautiful....
The Power Of The Riff Compels Me
Oh yeah, I'm buying it, if it's still a good price in a couple days when the auction is over...
Those titanium bridge saddles are $115 and I've been wanting to try them out anyway...
yeah, that's pretty much Lake Placid Blue, and Stratocasters look nice in that color...Originally posted by binnie

Thanks Mark and Elvis, regarding the red pickguard. I never planned on screwing with it, was just at Guitar Center one day buying strings, saw it and thought "What the fuck?" so I bought it and threw it on. lolOriginally posted by ELVIS

Ok Elvis by "mij" Fender, what do you mean? Do you mean a "Jap-Strat?' If so, then yes. I wanted to make my own "Frankie" when I was 16 and didn't have the cash to buck up for an American one, nor did we have the net back then. I bought a 1987 Japanese Strat for about $500 having every intention of ripping it apart. The stock bridge sysetem that they had at the time was trying to imitate Floyd's but were so screwy. So, I had to buy a new neck to accomidate the Floyd. So, the body's a Japanese Fender but the neck is from a company called Performance Products. I found them from an ad in Guitar Player mag back then and I remember the neck was only like seventy bucks or something cheap? Regardless, I lucked out cos I've done EVERYTHING to that axe over the years.
Here's a closeup, it's more beat up in person than in the pics cos I used to abuse it like no tomorrow.
You know me Elvis and how I dig Strats, so and of course I say yes!!!Originally posted by ELVIS

I'm getting soooo confused though regarding what's Fender's actual spec for Lake Placid Blue though cos my blue one was supposedly LPB? Yet when I put it side by side with my buddy's brand new LPB Strat, mine's more greenish? It's weird?
elvis if you won it, take off those Lindy Fralin pickups and send me them.
Don't notice most of my posts are less than 2 lines...

Elvis, you know you have already bought it !!
Max,
Yeah, I could tell it's a Jap Strat by the body shape, believe it or not...
As far as the color, the original Lake Placid Blue and most all original fender metallics were clear coated with nitrocellulose lacquer that turns yellow over time which could explain the greenish color on yours...
But yes, mij is Made In Japan...
The price is right for the saddles and Fralin's alone!
23. That's the number of people Mr. T has pitied in the time it has taken you to read this sentence.

WOW!!! I'm impressed. How can you tell, if you don't mind my asking? A pm would suffice if it's a secret. lol
Ahhhhhh Haaaaah!!! That makes perfect sense and thank you. I've recently looked at old pics when I first bought the Strat and the finish is A LOT darker. As far as the color, the original Lake Placid Blue and most all original fender metallics were clear coated with nitrocellulose lacquer that turns yellow over time which could explain the greenish color on yours...
I do have another question though. How come my '83 Candy Apple Red hasn't suffered the same fate?
Gosh, when I figure out stuff like that it makes me feel happy that I'm not as dumb as I look. lolBut yes, mij is Made In Japan...
Seriously, thanks so much for all of the info.!!!
LOOOOVE the color.Originally posted by ELVIS

That's fucking cherry!!!
WOW!!!
Do you have any idea what that's worth?
Not worth that much since the ES125 was a budget model back then. Add a few 100 because itīs the rarer T (=thin) model.Originally posted by MAX

My guess, 3000-5000 $$ on a good day.
So, some more of my Vintagey stuff.
78 Strat, light natural
78 Strat, dark natural
79 Strat, black, obviously!
Still, that's a sweet one to own. How did you obtain it?Originally posted by kentuckyklira

Got lucky, met a dead broke jazz musician while my bank account was looking good! Paid about 900-1000 $ for it, depending on the exchange rate.Originally posted by MAX

We might as well talk Telecaster while we're at it!
78 Custom Tele in rare Antigua finish
Limited edition 1980 Black and Gold Tele
Squier Pro Tone, modded with an extra pick up and a Bigsby, excuse the crappy pic please!
In the 80s the guys at ESP obviously thought shredders could use a Tele style guitar too!
In the early 60s, German maker Framus obviously also catered to the semi hollow P90 crowd.
While another German maker, Hopf, decided to aim at the Burns crowd in 1965.
And in the early 70s Framus decided to go low budget. Doesnīt mean she donīt play real nice.
In the 80s, Tokai also catered to the extreme shredder crowd. Came across one of these called "Super Limited" and couldnīt say no!
And when Washburn teamed up with Wayne Charvel in the early 90s they sure produced a few fine, Made in USA, guitars, which are still extremely underrated!
