While the hardware on Asian Washburns from back then was not the most durable ever!

K kentuckyklira, I'm both in awe and extremely impressed with your collection. How many axes do you have?

Speaking of Wayne Charvel, have you done any business with Wayne's Guitars? I'm curious about their products. I purchased a neck from them but the deal went sour for numerous reasons. Still, I haven't written off using them again YET...

    Thanks.

Also, do you use Floyd's at all? If so, I'd like to discuss them with a man of your guitar education.

    As your experience implies,

Iīve heard good things and bad things about them. I must admit that Iīve never done any business with them myself though.

I remember thos HM (Heavy Metal) Strats with the Floyds!!! WOW!!! All I'm sayin' is my 1987 Floyd is a dream and indestructable. However, the new ones leave a lot to be desired.

I remember when I got the Antigua. That was back in the days of classified ads. The guy on the phone, some sports student jock, was all,

"oh, itīs a nice guitar, just the finish is real ugly, so donīt be disappointed when you see it"

and when I got to his place I see itīs an Antigua and I almost crap my pants, and then say,

"yeah, youīre right, that looks pretty hideous. But, as Iīm a collector, Iīll give you 600 German Marks for it (with case mind you)"!

He said OK. That was about 300 $.

Just in case you were getting bored, I came home to find my latest purchase waiting for me.

Yamaha RGX420 Drop6. Not quite a baritone, but longer scale than a Strat.

That one Fernandes model is called the Revolver. They make three or so different versions of it.

    Nice collection BWT.

That shade of blue is my favorite color. You never can have too many Strats. Go for it!

Cool guitar. I've always like that shape. It would be cool to see that with a floyd rose instead of the crazy trem.

    Cool.

The "Made in USA" vs. the "Made in Japan" decal is usually quite a hint!

Itīs usually just above the neck joint on the back of the neck on the Japanese ones.

OK thatīs more or less impossible cos itīs a question of mood and where and what!

    Latīs say last gig:

LAG Rockline for most of the stuff.

ESP 901 as backup for the LAG

Green SG copy for the old school stuff we cover.

Fender Bronco as backup for that.

My 1985/86 Fender Japan Collectable series 57 RI Strat is what I currently play when looking for those vintage clear sounds. Iīll check if I already posted that one here!

K and fair enough. However and I realize you have a gazillion axes but don't you have just one or two "babies" that you could never part with and you always play more than the others? I mean like my "Bluey?" I have some stellar axes but that guitar is my bitch. It's like a part of me.

    Hey, either Elvis or kentuckyklira...

As long as we're talkin' shop, either of you own, have any opinions or knowledge regarding Fender's Lace Sensor pickups? I' figure I'd ask you guys first prior to starting a thread. My friend had a Strat, oh about in 1991 when they were stock and the tone was spectacular, crisp and clean. However, Fender doesn't put them on any of their guitars anymore yet they still sell like crezzi and there's a huge market for them.

The reason I'm asking is I considered buying them about 15 years ago. I scored a USA Strat that's about two years old and I wouldn't mind fucking with it. Besides, the bridge pickup has a funky "buzz" noise to it, so I started thinking about those lace sensors. There's a used set at a local guitar shop that's really cheap. I was wondering what you guys thought? I'll probably just go ahead and get them anyway but it would be nice to hear either one of you guys' opinions prior to doing it.

Oh and BTW. the pickups are the "Gold" ones if that helps? Also the set of three, they're selling them for sixty bucks. Again, what do you guys think?

A set of 3 Lace Sensor golds for 60 bucks is a "no questions, hereīs the cash gimme my pups" deal. Theyīre great pick ups. Slighty less attack (or "twang" if you may) than your typical Fender single coil. Makes them sound a bit warmer, but absolutely without turning muddy or anything like that!

Sweet and thank you my brother, I'll pick them up. Cos these aren't for my "main" '83 Strat. They'll be used for one I picked up from a friend of a friend who needed $$$ recently and sold me his axe for next to nothing. I really don't even like the guitar. Still, it's a USA Strat and I was game for the price. The neck is horrible, the frets almost feel like they'll cut your fingers plus it's rosewood. Not meaning to offend anyone but I despise rosewood fretboards on strats.

I'm not a big fan of the Lace Sensors, but I'd buy them in a second for $60 and try them in a few of my Strats...

Different pickups sound different in different guitars, period...

You might just stumble on a magical combination and the price is right...

Ebay if you don't like 'em...

    Thanks guys.

What's the difference with the gold, red, etc. Lace Sensor models? Also, why doesn't Fender use them as stock anymore if they still sell and have a both pretty and seemingly aftermarket for them?

Oh and ELVIS, you've still yet to answer the "Jap-Strat" question?

    2 more 77 Strats.

The white one has a PJ Marx pick up, one of the best pick up makers ever, too bad they went out of business.

The dings on the sunburst have a history. Picked up this 17 year old chick (this is 15 years ago). She was still a virgin, but one night she decided to change that. We gor so carried away that we actually knocked that Strat out of its stand. 2 dings I can live with!

2 more Vesters, an excellent ES335 copy, with Gibson pick ups and in a rare greenburst. Set neck of course. The other is my only bass.

Gold is the classic Vintage Strat sound with glassy bell like tones (used on the Clapton and Buddy Guy
    Stratocasters).

Red is the scorcher with high output, lots of midrange harmonics and crunch like a hot humbucking pickup.

Silver is like an overwound Strat pickup with added midrange harmonics and bass.

The Blue is warm and loud like an old 50's humbucking pickup.

The differences between a Jap Strat and and American Stratocaster include virtually detail and every piece of the guitar(s), respectively...

I'll lay out the details soon, but I don't have time right now to do it properly...

The parts are not interchagable, not even the neck, unless it happens to fit, but it usually does not...

Then Tokai copied more exactly than Fender Japan? I have the trem from a 79 Strat on my Tokai Paisley Strat.

And werenīt Fender Japanīs early 50s and 60s copies famed for being a more exact copy of the original than the US versions?
