    Ultra-g Gi100

    Man,

    Check this shit out...

Anyone ever used one ?? Sounds great in principal,
direct recording to your DAW (or multitrack)
without having to mike up your AMP...

I just stumbled across this, its cheap too (under $100)
and can handle direct outputs of AMPS up to 3000W !!

Most of those types of things always seem to lose something when it comes to tone. Probably ok though for demos 'n shit though. I've never tried this particular one, so I'm not going to generalize and say it sucks ass without hearing it. I have seen speaker simulators used to great effect in conjuction with a microphone. And also as the start of an effects chain so you can do the wet/dry type of thing.

It got some good reviews on the forum where I read about it..
Must have a pretty freakin awesome input to be able to
take a simple guitar pickup output, right up to the main output
of a power amp !! (Up to 3000watts)

You still have to have your cab in the chain (Or a power
        soak).....

I think Im going to grab one, its so cheap, worth a try...
Would be interested to hear if others have used this one..

I have one, it works, though I don't use it...

A little noise sounds good to me...

I use Hughes & Kettner Red Box Pros as guitar DI boxes. They´re passive which makes em easy to use and I find they sound pretty good. They´re also not much more expensive than Behringers if you can find them.

              Panamark,

I have been experimenting with this particular DI box since January.

I have also recorded with it as well.

The problem you run into is if you use it for recording it introduces phase problems and you end up cancelling out some of the frequencies - it makes things clearer ( no mud) but the phase issues get rid of some of the tone.

that is where the sterility comes from.

Radial Engineering makes some killer DI stuff you can use for guitar. They have phase adjustments and other bells and whistles.

Also, Palmer makes a better unit too.

I used a Hughes-Kettner DI with cab. simulator for recording in Feburary.Same as the Beringher - maybe a little better.

It is the first song on my my space page.

T.J. Fuller Project's profile including the latest music, albums, songs, music videos and more updates.

The recording came out O.K. but, you will hear how these boxes affect the signal Phase.

One speaker miked / the other DI'd into another Marshall.

              Hope that helps!

I spoke too quick on this...

Here's what I use to record straight to computer and it sounds GRATE for not a lot of money!

That's the front and rear with the regular V-Amp on top. I have the pro rackmount version. I also have the blue guitar version, but the bass model, which is also for guitar and keyboard is voiced perfectly for guitar...

Anyway, it has the Ultra-G built in and the possibilities are almost endless.

Most of you know I use the ADA MP1 as my main guitar sound, which to my ears is the best...very reliable, versitle real tube overdrive, based on a late 60's Marshall Plexi...

Anyway, I set the Behringer on a 60's british simulation and run the ADA straight into the front, just as I do with my Super Leads, or Fender Deluxes and BINGO...INSTANT AWESOME TUBE TONE that's very user friendly and fun to tweak...

I have the red Ultra-G box, but since I bought the Bass V-Amp Pro, I haven't touched it...

I have all kinds of other pedals, effects and rack gear that I experiment with at different points in the chain, and that's a lot of fun also...

I'm getting ready to post some licks, and you'll get the idea of what I do with my sound and what I'm talking about...

At $150 some people laugh and call it a poor man's POD, but i think it sounds better and it's a steal...

Ive got the latest ver POD XT Elvis, and Ive done the Kuma Sutra
with it, and still not got the tone I want... :p

I think the Line6 POD is way overrated now..

I was going to play with my JCM-800 and this
GI-100 and if not happy, track down one of
                  those ADA's...

Ive been searchin for one of those ADA pre-amps here..
Farken expensive in Oz, even on Ebay..
I might pick one up on my next trip over there..

I was thinking of using the ADA and the GI-100
together via a Firewire M-Audio input..

I thought that might be ok ?

Thanks Eddie007 for your advise too, any pointers I genuinely
read and absorb... I listened to LetsgetRockin'2, not a bad tone,
but its not quite the tone Im after.. I want a bit more low-mid
in it.. I probably should listen to your track in my audio room,
as Im sitting on a PC at the moment with tinny $10 speakers..
Cool riff dude.. Funny you should mention the Palmer DI, I saw
that unit after I ordered the GI100, ah well, its only cheap, so
I guess I will have a play with it..

Yeah, I paid $780 for my first ADA MP1 back in 1990...

I just bought two more from ebay for $200 each...

Yeah you can run it like that into into your PC Fireware setup...

What do you have, exactly ??

I would run it into the POD XT...

The ADA has quite a bit of high end, much like a Marshall, so I use the Bass V-Amp to shape the EQ considerably...

I almost had a chance to plug my MP1 into a POD XT, but we ran out of time...

But I love my MP1 into my Bass V-AMP...

In fact, I'm hooking up my blue Guitar V-Amp right now to see if my first impressions were correct...

I bought the guitar version after falling in love with the Bass version - tried it once and put it back in the box...

Right now I'm checking out the blue V-amp pro...

Got my main Yngwie-like Strat going straight in, then out stereo into two of my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe's...

                            Not bad so far...

Then after i'm done messing around, i'll dial in a good clean, midrange heavy tone, and try the ADA into that sound...

What most people compliment me on, right off the bat, is my tone...

Seems to me the pre-amp is my answer..
                              Theres always been *something* missing....

Do those ADA's have a DC power input by any chance ??
(Otherwise stuff from the US is a drama with
the AC voltage difference and the 50/60hz thing)
