Wow, that's terrible news.
It makes Guerro a hell of a man - a champ inside the ring and out....

I see where James Toney is entering the world of mixed martial arts. He is actually going to fight Randy Cotour at the next UFC. Bad move James.
Anybody have any thoughts on this weekends big showdown in Dallas...
Manny Pacquiao vs. Joshua Clottey?
Clottey puches like a mule but you have to love Pacman's speed. I wonder how much Manny can get up for an opponent like Clottey given this is not a superbout?
Hey Jackass! You need to [Register] or log in to view signatures on ROTHARMY.COM!
I think Pacquiao-Mayweather is inevitable - the delays are just to hype it even more.
As for Pacquaio-Clottey, I think this is strategy on the part of Roach. Pacquaio has never looked great against guys who don't come straight at him, like Juan Manuel Marquez. In Clottey, he faces a guy with a very difficult defensive style - this is clearly preparation for Floyd. I'm not saying Clottely fights like Floyd (he's not as relaint upon footwork, but rather uses a difficult guard, sort of a poor-man's Winky Wright), but there is an element of getting Pacman ready to face guys who pose difficult problems.
Clottely will be a LOT bigger and stronger. I'd be very surprised if Manny stops him. That being said, whilst Clottey is an elite fighter, he's always going to be #3 rather than #1 - he only has one gear, and can't seem to up the pace at the crucial moments. He had Cotto ready to go, but let him back into the fight.
This might not be an easy night for Manny, but I expect his superior speed and workrate to seal a UD.
I can't help thinking that at some point Manny is going to get clocked by one of these bigger guys and go down...maybe even a couple of times and have to survive to continue on in the fight. Does Plotty, or Clottey, have the power to do it? Yes he does. Does he have the speed to catch Manny? Not straight up if Manny is looking for the punch. However, Manny gets wild and overconfident at times and i think that could serve trouble for him here because he could get hit with something that he doesn't see coming. My issue with Plotty, as Binnie points out, is if he were to get Manny holding on for dear life, could he close the show. I don't think he can. I don't think it is going to be an easy night for Manny but i think he will win as well by UD but i wouldn't be surprised if Manny gets hurt in this fight. I don't see the typical Manny blowout as he did to Cotto.
I think you guys are giving Clottey's power too much credit. His KO ratio isnt great. That being said, he's a good fighter who will make for perhaps an interesting fight. Gotta agree with you all, however. Pac Man in a UD.

I'll settle for Manny getting a UD win IF he gets knocked down a couple of times... and has to come back and do some work to do it...he's had it so easy his last few fights I almost believe he IS juicing.
Well, what a shitty fight. Manny completely shut Clottey out, or to be more accurate, Clottey shut himself out.
He just didn't pressure Manny - Clottey has super-human endurance, and a very tight guard, but that's it. As I predicted, he only has one speed, and when combined with the lack of urgency he showed tonight, it made it an easy UD for Manny - not so much because Manny looked spectacular (he threw 1,200 punches and didn't really hurt Clottey, WTF?) but because Clottey gave the judges nothing to score.
Manny is great, no question. But Christ Clottey, get in the fuckin' game.
I hope Mayweather - Mosely is more competitve.

Binnie you called it. Plotty didn't give himself a chance to win. That was so frustrating to watch. Jim Lampley said it best during the fight when he commented that he wasn't sure Clottey came to win. What was an even bigger disappointment to me was the undercard and the performance of Jose Louis Castillo. He has faded so badly. That war with Corrales zapped him of everything he had.
I think the Ricky Hatton body shot took him of everything he had
Clottey is a tough dude, but it looked to me like he came for a payday. Shame, he had the size to make it a really hard night for Manny - if I'd been in his corner, I'd have been pushing him to hold and lean on Manny, make him tired. Oh well, plenty of grea fights coming up....
Here is the one that has me salivating:
April 17
At Atlantic City, N.J. (HBO): Kelly Pavlik vs. Sergio Martinez, 12 rounds
Can Pavlik fight as well as Paul Williams did to narrowly escape Martinez? I'm not so sure........
Pavlik-Martinez should be a good scrap.
I've watched Williams-Martinez six times now, and every time I score it differently. I am not at all convinced that Williams won that fight, and I think that Martinez has been unlucky in the past (like the 'draw' against Cintron - laughable.)
That being said, Martinez doesn't have the same calibre of opponents on his resume that Pavlik does (Williams aside.) Some would argue that's a big factor in calling this fight, but I'm not so sure. Martinez may be behind in experience, but I'd say he's ahead in momentum - the fight with Williams will have been invigorating, despite the defeat, and Pavlik has generally looked like dogshit since Bhop made him look like a glorified journeyman. Martinez is no Bhop, but he's not a come forward in straight lines slugger that Kelly likes, either. I expect Martinez to cause Kelly some problems, but I doubt he'll have the power to seriosuly hurt Pavlik. The question of how he takes Pavlik's shots is more interesting - Kelly is a heavy handed middleweight, and Martinez has campaigned for most of his fights at 154. This could be decisive.
At the moment, however, I'm leaning towards Martinez is a close fight, maybe a SD. I don't think that Kelly's re-gained any of the momentum he lost with Bhop, and I think that Martinez's speed and evasive footwork will be enough to prevent the bigger man being able to use his power for any consistent length of time. I stress that's an initial consideration - it might change as I (force myself) to re-watch Kelly's last two fights....
Mayweather - Mosely is an incredibly interesting match. It would have been even better 7-8 years ago, but hey, at least its happening.
Mosely is the biggest man Floyd has faced in a long time, and one of the most heavy-handed he's ever faced. He also has very fast hands. That being said, he's doesn't really have a jab, so those fast combinations aren't going to be working off much, and I expect most of them to miss. Lets be honest about this: Mosely has never, EVER, looked good against slick boxers - Winky Wright absolutely schooled him twice, and Vernon Forrest outboxed him comprehensively in their first bout (the second was much closer.) Forrest is no Mayweather. I can see Floyd quite comprehensively outpointing Mosely - Miguel Cotto, no pure boxer, counterpunched Shane all night, and if he can then Floyd will be even more succesful (I actually thought Shane edged it against Cotto, for what it's worth.)
Mosely is one of my all time favourite fighters, and I'm not being down on him. If a guy comes forward to fight, Mosely will batter him with fast hands and power. But Floyd isn't going to be there to hit. Shane is trading off that spectacular win against Margaritto, who he made look like a mannequin. But that might be a red herring. Margaritto had just been exposed as a cheat in the locker room, and his head cannot have been clear for that fight. I think we have to remember Shane's fight beforehand - he really struggled with Mayorga, and got hit a lot.
I expect Shane to pressure Floyd all night, and to land some decent shots on him (certainly more than the four, yes, FOUR, that Juan Manuel Marquez managed.) But this will be a lopsided UD for Floyd - Mayweather will not hurt Shane physically but, as with so many other guys he outboxes, the mental scars of being so thoroughly outclassed will be lasting.
I hope I'm wrong, but I just don't see how Shane does this.
Wladimir Klitschko - Eddie Chambers this Saturday.
I expect Wlad will win this one. Doesn't everybody? I just hope that Eddie goes to fight - I can't even remember the last time a guy got in the ring with either of the brothers who looked like he wasn't just there for a pay day. Eddie just isn't big enough to cause Wlad any serious bother, but he might be able to give him a decent scrap if he goes to win.
WTF?

$24.95 For This Fight,I Want My Money Back.
This is a shame. This was going to be a decent free card for boxing fans. Hmmmm.....who do i believe is the culprit here?
'Friday Night Fights' title card called off - ESPN
That would be Don King.........
Another heavyweight fight, another Klitschko victory.
Wlad KO'ed Chambers with five seconds left in the fight. The lefthook was spectacular, but the rest of the fight was typically tedious. Chambers didn't fight, and Wlad was as hesitant as ever against a near dead opponent.
I think the U.S. needs some bigger heavyweights.
Size isn't the key - Arreola is 260lbs, Tony Thompson is a big guy, Lamon Brewster is a big guy.....
The key is a heavyweight WITH TESTICULAR FORTITUDE. Every American fighter that travels to fight either brother fights like a pussy, fights like they have no desire to win or any belief that it could actually happen. You only get one shot, SO FUCKING TAKE IT. Wlad is there for the taking - he is fighting guys who wouldn't have been ranked in the top 20 or even 30 a generation ago and he takes forever to get them out of there - a guy with that kind of power and those kind of size advantages should be decimating guys like Eddie Chambers, who could comfortably fight at cruiserweight. You think Chambers, Arreola, Tony Thompson, John Ruiz, and co. last 4 rounds with Mike Tyson?
The US needs to produce a heavyweight with balls, heart and some better than average skills - I tell ya, if Wlad didn't get his own way for three rounds he'd probably fall to pieces.
Vitali is a whole other problem - that's one tough motherfucker. But he's still so robotic. A heavyweight with fast hands and fast feet should be able to outpoint a guy like that.
Jeezus, Larry Holmes would have made the two of them look stupid.
And this isn't Klitschko hate. Far from it - I have ultimate respet for both brothers. Boring they maybe, but they beat everyone that's put in front of them and are respectucful and in shape. But it's time for a new era now.

Binnie,Did You Watch This fight?
Shane Cameron V John Hopoate full fight 18/03/10.
Sorry Dan, didn't see it - I don't think it was shown over here.
Round 2 of the Supermiddleweight 'Super Six' tournament begins this week:
Arthur Abraham - Andre Dirrell on Saturday.
I'm REALLY struggle to pick this one. Despite the fact that Froch got the nod, I actually thought that Dirrell won their fight - Froch spent most of the night punching air. I hope that Dirrell has taken on board the fact that he can make the powerful guys like Froch and Abraham hugely ineffective by being so mobile, but also that he needs to throw more punches to steel the rounds from them. Now, there is no way in hell Dirrell is stopping Abraham - a man who the massive puncher Edison Miranda couldn't budge, even when he broke his jaw. But I actually think that Dirrell might be able to get a UD - he is so much faster, and should be able to stay out of Abraham's way.
Abraham is the more experienced, but he's never faced anyone as elusive or fast as Dirrell. Given that he's a slow starter, we can pretty much assume that he'll be behind on points at the half way point. But with a guy like Abraham, you can never discount a KO - just ask Jermain Taylor. That being said, taking 12 rounds to KO a faded Taylor who was still lacking in confidence from his Pavlik and Froch debacles might not be as impressive as it seems. Taylor has never been hard to find, and it seems the likelihood of AA KO'ing Dirrell would be slim.
Expect a bit of a stinker, largely because Dirrell will be doing everything he can to avoid engaging (a smart tactic). AA will come forward incessantly, and Dirrell will pot shot him to the body and through the shell-like guard when opportunity presents itself. Unless AA is much better at cutting off the ring than I think he is, I expect a UD for Dirrell, which will open up the 'Super Six' nicely.
Just watched the youtube you posted Dan - that Cameron fight was a disgrace to boxing. It's always an anti-climax when things end like that......
Dan (03-25-2010)
Arthur Abraham - Andre Dirrell
Gotta go with Abraham on this one. I'm still not sure that Dirrell is an upper echelon fighter. I know he did well against Froch, and Froch has done well for himself, but i don't see Froch as a real measuring stick or an elite fighter in the sport. Abraham is fighting above his natural weight which should make this more competitive. Abraham is an elite fighter. Dirrell will run and Abraham will look to go to the body to slow him down. If he gets to that body and wears him down....watch out. I don't think Andre can hit Abraham as freely as he did Froch either. Abraham is much faster and more elusive. I'm mixed as to a late knockout win for Abraham or a UD for Sir Arthur, but i feel Arthur is definitely the right side.
Good call Binnie. The fight went off just like you predicted until Abraham lost his cool. What a crazy ending. I won't say anymore for those who still haven't seen it and don't know what happened.
Yeah that WAS a crazy ending - I think that the DQ was the correct and only call for hitting a man who was down, but that was some Oscar winning acting from Dirrell!
Dirrell is still a little too negative, but he's now made Abraham and Froch look almost ineffective - he's a hard night's work for anyone, and I think his power is underrated....
Joan Guzman won a split decision over Ali Funeka in their rematch.
That being said, he came in 9LBS (!!!!) over the limit - unbelievable.
Because I love you all, here's the full Dirrel-Abraham fight (commentary in German):

Shit, I fucked up the order - part 2 is at the bottom!
Man, i just knew a riot was going to break out after the Abraham/Direll fight, similar to the Bowe/ Gallata situation. I thought Direll was acting as well until he said he lost the fight and thought he had been knocked out. It was absolutely the correct call. It is a shame that Arthur lost his composure because he was coming on a bit and it would have been interesting to see how the rest of that round and the 12th turned out. Abraham should have gotten credit for a knockdown as well despite the feet getting tangled. I have to admit at this point that Dirrell is for real. The way he performed the other night, it really leaves me scratching my head as to how he didn't kill Froch.
Yeah, all fucking hell has broken loose about this - the DQ was the right decision, regardless of whether Dirrell was KO'd or not. You cannot hit a man on the floor. Period.
At first, like you SS, I thought Dirrell was acting as the blow didn't seem to have much steam on it. But if he WAS acting, then he's a damn fine actor because those tears seemed real to me, and he really thought he'd lost.
As for Arthur getting stronger, I don't think round 12 would have made a different - he was a MILE behind on points at that point, and had probably landed 6-10 decent shots all night. Yes, he should have been given credit for a knockdown in round six (appauling refereeing) but Dirrell knocked AA down than round too (he was only up because of the ropes, and the rules specify that's a knockdown.)
Dirrell was a worthy winner.
This is the reason i love the sweet science. You never really know what your going to get do you?
I am trying to think of a good over and under for the Roy Jones/ B Hop fight. I'm thinking 5 rounds.
One kind of interesting fight on the undercard is Rocky Juarez vs Jason Litzau.
Can't forget about the David Haye vs. John Ruiz fight this weekend as well. I'm just pissed that there is no U.S. television for this fight!
What? No US TV for Haye-Ruiz. That sucks man.
Roy Jones - Bernard Hopkins is a fight that doesn't need to happen. They both should be retired, especially Roy.
However, since it's happening, I'll give up my thoughts. Bhop will win, simply because Roy hasn't got the legs anymore and won't be able to give Bhop the movement that he struggle with - Bhop will be able to keep up with him this time. That being said, Bernard was getting hit more than usual against that chump he had a warm up fight with, so maybe Father Time finally is catching up with him - Roy still has fast hands, and I expect he will have some success with old Bhop. Many people are expecting a Bhop KO, but we have to remember that Bhop hasn't KO'd anyone in almost six years. I still think he's too cautuious to go for broke, and will win a clear UD against the shadow of a man who was easily the most naturally gifted athlete ever to lace up the gloves.
Sad.
