I heard he had a knee op last year, but nothing recent to my knowledge.

IIRC, no one gave Glenn a snowball's chance in hell against Roy Jones, and look how that one turned out...Froch couldn't carry Roy Jones in his prime's jock.

Yeah, but Johnson did not get Jones in his prime. He was fucked after stepping back down from heavy.

Johnson has the williness, the awkwardness, and the toughness to make a great fight of this. But it's Froch's fight to lose: if he uses his brain, keeps his distance and pops the job to amass the points, it should be a UD. Why wage war and risk a shot at Ward?

I like Johnson, and I'd like him to win (largely because I think he would give Ward fits.)

Kessler look good in his comeback tune-up. He hit his opponent with some staggering shots to force a TKO in rd 6, with KDs in 3 and 4. Kessler's jab looked better than it has in years, although he was getting hit a little more than he should.

Looking forward to seeing him back in with the best. Kessler-Abraham would be a good fight. They share promoters, so it should be easy to make.

Froch-Johnson was a really good fight. Froch got a SD.

Not sure how 2 judges gave it to Froch by 4 rounds; or how the other called it a draw. It was very close - I had Froch up by 2 rounds.

Froch had to go on the back foot and use angles, but it was workrate which sealed the deal - he out hustled the older Johnson, but never hurt him. Johnson was nailing him with right hands all night, however, and if he could still step on the gas then the fight could quite easily have gone the other way.

Froch-Ward in the final. Froch has the power, toughness and awkwrdness to KO Ward - at this stage, however, I see Ward boxing to a UD. It will be interesting to see if the much hyped potential showdown between Kessler and Bute has happened by then to see who the 'Super Six' winner faces: Froch would love to get revenge on Kessler; Kessler would love to re-match Ward (and actually prepare this time); and Ward would undoubtedly love to fight Bute.

168 is one hell of a division.

(For my money, Kessler should take another tune-up before Bute.)

Yeah, that was a great fight, and honestly I'm impressed with Froch walking through some of those right hands he kept getting clocked with by Johnson seemingly at will past a certain point...but the older fighter didn't have the power to do the damage even by attrition.

In other news, I loved Nazim Richardson's comment on Showtime's Pacquio-Mosely fight special leading up to that after Nazim, on the sidelines between rounds, had gotten pissed at Shane "He's just showin' somebody else how to beat this motherfucker."

    Did anyone see Chavez-Zbik?

I didn't, but Chavez but won a title. This surprises me, as I've spent many years thinking he's the most carefully matched, over-hyped guy in boxing.

I've got to know if he looked any good?

Looks like Mayweather - Ortiz is a done deal.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's not Mayweather-Pac.

It could be interesting though: although he's slower, and doesn't have much of a defence, Ortiz is a lefty - he might have few surprises for Floyd. Add into that his heart, and the fact he has everything to gain and nothing to lose, and we could be in for a good 'boxer vs fighter' bout.

Personally I think this will look like a cat playing with a dying mouse, but you never know.

He didn't. He was getting NAILED all night, but the guy didn't have the power to take him out. The only reason he won was by wearing the other guy out by absorbing all the shots with his FACE...think he finally got Zbik with a body shot?

I agree with your assessment of Mayweather-Ortiz, but hey Vic might get lucky...he DOES hit hard, but may fold if he can't touch Floyd and gets pot-shotted all night.

It was an interesting fight but while i was watching it i thought to myself how neither man had a real chance at being the true champion at that weight. It was a classic case of what the judges liked better - Zbik's busy work and volume or Chaves' harder punches. Chavez got hit way too much to the face. He doesn't have enough head movement to be a great fighter in my opinion. Chavez got the win but i wouldn't have complained if Zbik had retained. I will give Chavez credit in that he had to have heart and endurance to do what he did which was continually stalk and attack the body all night like a madman. Sergio Martinez was sitting at ringside smiling all night for good reason. If this is the best that he has to worry about then he is free and clear. He would absolutely obliterate Chaves Jr.

Robert Guererro is taking on Maidanna.

This could be a classic. Gut instincts suggest that Guerrero is too mobile and skillful for Maidanna - however, he was getting tagged quite a lot from Katsidis, and Maidanna has a decent punch on him. Perhaps 140 could be too far? I doubt it though.

I didn't think that he would. The fact that I couldn't even be bothered to watch the fight might be an indication of how far I rate him.

What interests me is where the hell he goes from here: they're hardly likely to put him in with Martinez (I'm laughing thinking what that would look like), or Arthur Abraham, assuming he's coming back down to 160. Would a fight with the German champs be viable?

Kudos to the kid for winning though.

Just seen the David Haye - Wlad Klitschko 'Face Off' with Max Kellermen.

    2 thoughts:

    1) Wlad is PISSED. Haye is clearly in his head. We should be in for a good fight whilst it lasts (although my gut feeling is that Wlad will win).

    2) I would never - and I mean NEVER - get tired of punching Kellerman in the face.

Golden Boy's new Golden Boy - Saul Alvarez - is in the ring on Saturday defending his 154 belt again Ryan Rhodes.

People are saying this will be easy for him. I doubt it. Ryan was a really, really good prospect 15 years ago. He's always been tough and he's re-captured some of his form recently. He has experience, he has power, and he will be up for taking the chance he never got the first time round. If Alvarez takes him lightly, we could be in for an upset.

Alvarez to win by late stoppage in a a much tougher than expected fight.

But really? You dont like Max? He is a little smug, but dude knows boxing. I dont mind him.

I don't think Max knows that much about boxing, to be honest.

The reason I don't like him is his ego. He seems to think he deserves camera time, when I want to hear about the fighters. He never really asks searching questions either.

Dave Haye is prolly gonna get knocked the fuck out.....

BUT he is going out in style. My pops told me a long time ago to get a hustle. Diamond Dave Haye is on the attack. It SEEMS to be working. I hate all Klitschkos.... FUCK I hope for a real fight......

Heavyweight boxing is a damn joke.... Why cant us fans get what we want? Which I presume is Gatti/Ward every night?

I can't see Haye winning either - his speed, and the agnles he throws shots from, give him a good chance of an upset, but I honestly don't think there's anyone around who can handle Wlad's shots.

HW boxing is dull. I think it is more to do with the lack of opposition than the capability of the Klits, however. They KO everyone is frontthem, like a HW champ should do.

Ordering the Fight.I cant wait .Haye needs to try and take wlads reach away and come out hard and fast on the inside.anything past round 5 and wlad has an advantage.

Would LOVE to see the upset but i doubt it.I will say for now Wlad by KO,perhaps round 8

I imagine that Wlad's camp will expect Haye to try and duck the jab to get into range and land. Wlad will be throwing a right cross right behind his jab to counter this.

I doubt that's Haye's plan however. Expect him to use angles and try to keep Wlad turning.

Alavarez looked pretty good on Saturday. I'm still not sold on the hype yet though.

Put him in with Cintron next.

This is the most exciting Heavyweight fight in years and i am psyched. Binnie I think you are right. Haye seems to be a smart fighter so i would think he would plan to do something opposite of what Wlad expects him to do. I don't know what that would be but i am hoping it is enough to keep the fight competative and make Klit have to think in there.

Decent fight card last night. Sad to hear about the death of longtime boxing announcer Nick Charles from cancer. Devon Alexander got a suspect win last night. Mattysee (apologize for spelling) got robbed and i thought he won the fight. Tavares Cloud looked pretty good knocking out Yusef Mack. I didn't get a look at the Felix Sturm fight but i heard he won. Only 6 days away now until the big one.

Sturm won a SD. I wouldn't say acklin was 'robbed', but I would say that Sturm was lucky.

Cloud looked good, but Yusef Mack is long overdue. I'm still not sold on Cloud.

As for Alexander - what happened? He was one of the most promsing fighters in the sport 2 years ago.

Agree, if you don't stand in front of Cloud and LET him hit you, he's baffled. I was a little more impressed with Mack overall, he just (finally) got caught by that left hook.

Totally, and that was a lackluster performance at best - amazed it wasn't a draw, especially (though he wasn't hurt, was laughing as he hit the deck, BUT) since Alexander got knocked on his ass. He almost got beat by a dude with a rat-tail mullet, FFS!

    1) Wlad is PISSED. Haye is clearly in his head. We should be in for a good fight whilst it lasts (although my gut feeling is that Wlad will win).

    2) I would never - and I mean NEVER - get tired of punching Kellerman in the face.
So apparently I'm hosting the pay per view for this tomorrow night with Hayes fighting this Rocky IV character.

Odds are very much against Hayes on the bookie websites which can't be a good sign.

Haye is really up against it.

What he does have going for him is that he is the first fighter since 2005 who really beiieves that he can beat Wlad. He's been trying to rock Wlad's confidence (which has always been his weak point) by being so brash. I think it's working. Given that Haye has a big punch, is quick and awkward (meaning its hard to get sparring partners to train to fight him) means that he might pose a genuine threat.

The problem for Haye however, is that he is considerably smaller. Wlad has a singificant reach advantage and a ram-rod jab. Haye has to get past that, and no-one has since Emmanuel Steward starting training Wlad. That might make Haye ineffective, and he'll have to find angles to work. Haye also isn't the most durable of fighters, and lad is one of the biggest punchers of all time (despite being boring). What happens when Wlad inevitably lands a half-decent shot is anyone's guess. My gut feeling is that Haye gets KO'd.

I'll be rooting for him though.

I'm curious to know what the over/under is on rounds this will last. My guess would be 5 maybe 6. I am also hoping for a Haye victory mainly to shake up the division. I like both fighters but i don't think i can bare another few years of watching the Klits jab smaller men to death. These are my main questions going into the fight:

    1. Has Haye ever faced an elite heavyweight fighter?
    2. If not, how will he react to the moment?
    3. If Haye were to upset the champion, would there be an immediate rematch or would the promoters angle in the other brother to avenge the loss?

Some interesting scenerios to think about. My prediction is Wlad wins by TKO in round 7.

I think it's impossible to predict rounds, because neither guy can take the other's best shots. He who lands first wins. The downside is that both might fight cautiously in a chess match, who knows?

    1) As long as we define 'elite' within the boundaries of THIS era, then yes. John Ruiz - for all his ugly and unappleaing style - has been around the top of the game for ten years. That's quite an achievement. He was known for being durable, and Haye iced him. Valuev, for all his limitations, was an imoveable object. Only Chageav beat him, and Haye did it with a broken hand, changing strategy in the third round to a more defensive style. neither of those guys is anything like an Klit, though. That being said, Klit has never fought anyone as fast - or awkward as Haye.

    2) Doubt the ocaision will phase him. Klit's right hand might, though. Hell, THAT jab might.

    3) Unless the 'win' were to be close, I can't see a Wlad rematch. Vitali would step up because Haye would have all of the belts - beating Haye ould allow a Klit to unify the division.
