Mayweather has recently said "January 16th was Dr. Martin Luther King birthday.January 17th was Muhammad Ali's birthday and May 5th is Pacquiao ass whooping day".Any takers?
I really love you baby, I love what you've got
Let's get together we can, Get hot
Certainly.
Following the press over the last few days it is CLEAR that Bob Arum (or someone in Team Pacquiao) is blocking this fight. Mayweather has called Pacquiao out clear and persistently; De La Hoya has been pushing to make the fight; and we know that calls have been made.
Arum has used the following excuses: 1) Pacman's cuts won't heal in time (bullshit); 2) the new arena in Vegas won't be completed in time and they'll lose money in a smaller venue (c'mon, think of the PPV Bob!); 3) Mayweather doesn't have the promoter to guarentee his purse.
Someone is protecting the cash cow.
Perosnally, I think it's a great fight. To dominate, Mayweather would have to be more aggressive than normally, otherwise he risks allowing Pacman to nick rounds on workrate. I've always imagined the first 4-5 rounds as very competitive whilst Money gets used to the speedy, relentless southpaw barage, and they taking over in the second half of the fight. I see him targetting the body a lot more than usual.
It seems that Mayweather-Martinez at a catch-weight is more likely for 5/5. That's a great, great fight too.
The Power Of The Riff Compels Me
Thanks for catching me up.I have not looked in on boxing for a while but i heard that Arum has made some pathetic comments on why the fight cannot be.From what i have heard he clearly cares more about a fatter pay check than giving the sport and its loyal followers what it has needed for a long time.Perhaps he a little worried for his guys ability?(have heard it said that Pacquiao has already started the downward slope). It would be a real thrill to see both Pacquiao and Mayweather tested for once.Either way it is guys like Arum who are a cancer on the sport
As for my two peneth its an interesting fight ...Pac has to be at the top of his game to compete with mayweather .. I prefer pac to mayweather but i think his counter punching style and power will over whelm pac ...I think pac would then have to trade and then that would end badly . I do think that freddie roach is a top top trainer and has the ability to change boxers styles so ..fuck it its boxing its 50/50 lol but i think mayweather will win later in the fight and dont see it getting to points .
That date can't change because Mayweather starts a jail term in June and is contracted to fight on 5/5.
4 months in more than enough notice for anyone.
I don't agree that Pacman is starting to decline, I just think he's always going to struggle a little with a guy who has good footwork/timing (as the JMM fights showed).
I expect we'll get the following:
Mayweather-Martinez at a catch-weight (150 or 152)
Pacquiao-Cotto II (the fight the world doesn't need to see).
Mayweather-Martinez would be cool
Mayweather is a pussy. He's been avoiding Pac like the plague for years...
That's bull.
All the drug-testing and so on has just been grand-standing - I really don't think that either fighter fears the other.
Mayweather is the one trying to make the fight right now. I've always said that the person blocking this fight is Bob Arum - his hatred of Money is legendary......
Which fight do you think is more dangerous for Floyd...Manny or Sergio?
RIDE TO LIVE, LIVE TO RIDE
LET `EM ROLL ONE MORE TIME
I think it depends on what weight the Sergio fight is made at - Segio is a MUCH bigger guy than Floyd, and he's damn quick too.
I'm a huge Martinez fan. The problem for him, however, is that his defence isn't great and he relies on his speed to hide the fact that his punches are a little wild. Floyd would pick him apart, I think. That being said, Sergio is still top 5 P4P and the closer the fight is to 154 the better his chances are.
Cmon guys......
Floyd could shoe shine Jesus.
Aaaaaaaaand you all know it.
Quit hatin.
I stop in for a minute and I get this?
Just WOW.
Fuck Scott Weiland. Fucking asshole. I get trashed all the time and still go to work. And my job sucks ass. -ODShowtime
Who's hating?
I thought I was being pretty pro-Floyd.....
Yeah, there is only 1 person i have seen on here that even thinks Manny has a chance against Floyd so i really don't know where you are coming from with this. Floyd is the best fighter out there. There has to be speculation on who could give him the best fight and i think that is all we are doing. If you are looking for a Floyd butt kissing thread, why don't you start one?
Pacquiao has mentioned that he had wanted a 50/50 financial split and has said "he would be willing to fight Mayweather Jr. at any point in time".The guys(well,Floyd and Pacquiao's promoter more than manny himself) have apparently had a phone conversation over the purse and still not come to an understanding.Just goes to show Manny does what Arum tells him to do,Which seems to be dead end fights against people who pose little threat to him and his image.Clearly Arum is ducking Floyd
Macklin is a decent fighter, and Martinez seems to have problems getting 'up' for fighters he thinks are beneath him.
If a fight with Floyd is signed, however, I see Macklin getting step-aside money....
I hate to interrupt this discussion about a fight that isn't yet taking place, but it looks like the new NBC sports network has boxing on tonight, very imaginatively named "Fight Night". Anybody watching?
And by the way, I hate Floyd. I just want to see somebody, ANYBODY beat the shit out of his thug ass, so I hope he gets it on with Pacquiao.

It would be so nice for network television to get behind boxing again and have some big fights for free. I remember as a kid watching Ali vs Spinks 1 and II on network television. Not to mention Wide World of Sports on Saturday afternoon was always good for some big fights like Camacho vs Haugen a couple of times.
Agree that a wider public interest would be great. However, it's all about $$$$. PPV allows for bigger purses.
They were two undefeated Philly heavyweights who gave a fairly entertaining fight. I don't think either guy has a huge upside. I was a little iffy on the commentators, Freddy Roach had good stuff to say but sadly stuggled to get off at times. Flores speaks well but makes ridiculous faces on camera and clams up during the fight.
In a couple of weeks they do have Jab Judah scheduled for a main event.
The drugs testing has all been about hype and getting inside Pacman's head, IMO.
Team Pac has not done themselves a lot of favours in being so slow to comply, either.
Mayweather may be a spectacular asshole, but I honestly don't believe that there's anyone he's not willing to fight. It's all about how big the payday is....
The pressure is on both fighters if the fight even happens anyway. They are probably the two biggest guys in boxing today,So the pressure is on for both guys. This is the chance for both guys to test themselves against a guy who is great. Now imagine the added pressure on Manny having two years of crap from Floyd thrown on top of him,The drug accusations and everything else.If any of that seeps it's way into Manny or his camp's head then it is advantage Floyd
Am sure I read some were that boxers are defined by the people they fought , I think holmes had that problem that after the golden area he kinda couldnt compete for credability because there wernt any greats at their peak left to fight...even tho i think he held the record for title defences and is now defined as a great heavy weight.
I think that apart from money if either boxer wants to be remembered in the terms of a " great" there gonna have to meet ...
Here, I think it's the opposite - they both have so many Hall of Famers on their resumes they don't 'need' one another to atain ATG status....
lol opposite opinions in boxing who would have thought
i would imagine that either boxer would love to have the scalp of the other on their record .
And IMHO their other fights out there matinez (which would be a great fight) etc but the pac/weather fight is the one thats got every one talking even none boxing fans ... its a marquee fight .
I just think i wouldnt wanna retire knowing i hadnt fought possibly the best who was out there and that counts for either boxer.
It's enough to make a boxing fan's head explode
See, I don't think the pressure is on Manny - if this fight never happens, Floyd's legacy will be permanently stained and history will remember that it was Merriweather who ducked the Pac-Man with the lame-ass drug testing demands, and not vice versa. I don't buy into the whole "psychological" angle - that only applies when you actually fight.
Call me old-school, but a real champion should be willing to face all top-challengers - that's what people remember about Ali, Leonard, Hagler, Jones Jr. and yes - even Roberto Duran. While Duran may have quit vs. Sugar Ray, he at least displayed enough guts to get in the ring and put it all on the line.
The interesting thing about those 4 is that Duran is probably ranked higher all the ATG lists despite losing to the other 3. His best work was at the lower weights.
Sugar ray ...man what a fighter one of my all time favs .......
Fact is, unless Manny swarms Floyd early and tags him with something big, he does NOT have the boxing skills to keep up with Floyd for 12 rounds, and will get picked apart in a bad way. Manny's got more to lose here IMO.
