Okay, so i don't give two shits about Pacman vs Rios this weekend. The undercard looks dull as hell. What i would like to see if the Froch vs Groves fight this weekend but it is listed as being on AWE? Anyone know what this is?

The binnie breakdown: Manny Pacquiao - Brandon Rios.

Expect fireworks. Both guys come to fight and love to trade. There is plenty of 'hype' around this fight surrounding the 'fact' that Pacman is on the slide (as 'proven' by his brutal KO stoppage to JMM). Well, JMM has a) long been one of the best fighters in the world; and b) long had Pacquiao's number. So the KO might not tell us that much. What we do know is that Pacquiao looks at his best against guys he can hit easily and repeatedly. Rios will be one of those guys. Add into the mix that he is naturally smaller that Pacquio, untested at the new weight class, and stepping up in level of opposition and it is hard to avoid the conclusion that unless Pacman is careless and Rios lands a lucky shot, it's going to be a Pacquiao stoppage. Lets say round 5-7.

The binnie Breakdown: Carl Froch vs George Groves

Well, they don't like each other. I for one can't remember ever seeing Froch this wound up for a fight, and Groves has easily won the mental game. I smell an upset here, even though all of the evidence is against one. Groves is untested at this level, doesn't have the power to stop Froch, and isn't a busy enough fighter to steel rounds from him. But, he is a crafty fighter, and a slightly quicker one than Froch, who looks at his best against guys who come straight at him for a scrap. Groves, a natural counter-puncher won't do that, and whilst he's not as slick as Dirrell (who should have got the win over Froch) or Ward (who did:easily), he has the potential to be a style nightmare for him. Froch will keep coming all night, and he'll have his moment, but I just wonder if Groves can edge it through awkwardness.

    Fuck it: Groves by UD.

Rumour is that Groves was one of Froch's sparring partners for the second Kessler fight and was kicking Froch's ass. Sparring ain't fighting, but we shall see.......

I read groves explanation of froch knocking him down when he was his sparing partner .
I think froch has everything to lose here and maybe groves laying it on has spooked him .
One of the papers was saying it was a bit like Ali Liston , admittedly not in the same class but no doubt about it mind games can effect performances .

But I still think that if froch brings half of what he pulled out the last couple of fights he is just to powerful a hitter for groves .

Great fight ruined by a poor decision at the end .
Froch was behind on my card .
No one wants to see a fight go on to long , but that seemed harsh

I couldn't watch it. My satellite provider doesn't carry AWE. I was surprised Groves was able to deck Froch in the first. I would love to see the fight. From what I am reading it was a quick stoppage and Froch had difficulty with Groves' style all night. Rematch perhaps?

Nah, that stoppage was premature. Froch was behind by quite a bit, even if the momentum looked to be turning his way.

Pacman looked pretty sharp, although I'm not sure what kind of test Rios is.....

Quite a name to have on your record , was the stoppage a back problem rather than a knock out . Or have I got the wrong end of the stick ?

I was reading about some of the money getting thrown at a froch groves rematch , we mobley was mentioned and a huge pay day for both fighters .
I wonder if froch might view this as a bit of a line my pension night and then just chuck it in .
It's clear his fantasy of avenging his defeats is out if his grasp now , ward was always a slim skin chance but now he is sort of off the couple of fight looking invincible roll ward is just a dream and I think he will be advices as such

Well, Ward doesn't have anyone to fight really. Froch is a good option in terms of $$$$ for him - and, lets be honest, he made it look easy last time.

Froch-Kessler III would be a good send off for Carl.....

    Good fights this weekend:

    Rigondeaux - Abgeko

    Trout - Lara

    Both should be interesting.

You are right. Rigondeaux is always a pleasure to watch. I am also interested in Paulie Malignaggi vs. Zab Judah. They are certainly not world beaters anymore but i think it will be entertaining.

I´m glad that El Chino Maidana defeated A. Broner and won the Welter title.

I´m not big fan of boxing, but that was a great fight.

I would have posted last night but I was too busy celebrating. I haven't enjoyed an ass whipping like that in a long time. Broner got what his little bitch ass deserved. His trash talking finally got the best of him. Like the man he is, he immediately left the ring following his defeat. It didn't surprise me at all that he didn't stand there and talk about his defeat in the post fight interviews as Paulie M had done in their previous fight. He ran out of the ring to jeers and flying cups under the protection of his handlers. I hope Maidana doesn't give him a rematch but instead fights Keith "One Time" Thurman who is truly deserving. That would be one hell of a war and a fight of the year candidate for 2014.

Vitali Klitschko: Heavyweight champion swaps boxing for politics
World heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko has given up his WBC title and says he is unlikely to fight again because he is focusing on politics.

The World Boxing Council has made him a "champion emeritus", which would allow him to directly challenge a new champion if he wants to resume boxing.

But the 42-year-old, who is a Ukrainian opposition leader, said: "That is something I currently cannot imagine.

"My focus is on politics in Ukraine and I feel the people there need me."

Klitschko beat Herbie Hide to win the WBO world heavyweight title in London in 1999

Massive crowds have demonstrated for weeks in Kiev against President Viktor Yanukovych's decision to shun closer ties with the European Union and Klitschko, who is very pro-EU and plans to run for president in 2015, has been prominent in the protests.

They were sparked by the Ukrainian government's decision not to sign a partnership deal with the EU - a move which seemed to come as a result of pressure from Russia.

The 6ft 7in heavyweight has won 45 of his 47 professional fights, 41 by knockout, with one of his two defeats a controversial reverse against Britain's Lennox Lewis in 2003.

The Ukrainian's younger brother Wladimir holds the other significant world heavyweight belts.

"I thank the WBC and its president Jose Sulaiman for the support in our battle for democracy and freedom in Ukraine," added the older Klitschko, who is leader of the Udar (Punch) political party.

Klitschko's last fight was in September 2012 when he stopped Manuel Charr in the fourth round.

Probably means Wlad will get the WBC strap now - can't see any of the other crop standing in his way.

After a late night drunken argument that involved me being out numbered in the opinion that Lennox Lewis was shit , punched like a girl and that I could take him if he was in the pub at that moment .
Any hoo I promised to have a bit of a revision of his career so I hit the old u tubes with some beer tubes .

Ok then he was better than I remembered , I still think he chinned a shot Tyson .
But he was a significantly better fighter than I gave credit .
    There I said it

Errrr, I think you're still way off with 'better fighter than I gave credit'.

Lewis changed the heavyweight division. Here was a 6'6'' guy who at 240-250lbs moved like a middleweight, had incredible timing, put his punches together incredibly well and had the second best jab in heavyweight history (Holmes being the best). He wasn't always exciting to watch, and could be over-cautious, but he could punch like an absolute motherfucker (watch the Razor Ruddock and Andrew Golota fights). He not only unifed the heavy division (which no-one has done since) he beat everyone there was to beat including some truly excellent fighters (Evander Holyfield) and a whole lot of very good ones (Golotta, Briggs, Vitali, Bruno, McCall, Rahman). An all time great for sure, even if his style made him difficult to love.

I'd actually say that if he was on top form, he could have beaten any heavyweight in history. A guy that big, with those skills gives all of the greats absolute fits.

But, yeah, the Tyson fight counts for nothing. Absolutely nothing. Tyson was only a name then and hadn't fought a top ten heavyweight in a decade. I'm of the opinion that Lewis would have beaten Tyson if they'd met in their primes - 7'' in height and 35lbs in weight is a tough gig to overcome, especially when you add in that jab. However, I'm confident that if Tyson and Holyfield met in their primes (at a period where Tyson still had Kevin Rooney in the corner) Tyson comes out on top.

So, Floyd Mayweather is due to fight on May 3rd (and presumably later in the year, too).

Who will he end up fighting?

My guess is that Amir Khan will get the May 3rd shot, with Maidanna on the undercard to set up a fighter with the winner (i.e. Mayweather) in Septemer/October. Khan doesn't deserve that shot, but Danny Garcia probably doesn't quite have the stature to bring in the $$$ just yet, and Tim Bradley is promoted by Bob Arum, so I can't see that happening unless Bradley changes promoters. Maidanna is a more exciting fight, and I think he's looked better in the last 18 months......

Amir khan keeps getting a mention ... It's gotta be khans last fight .
Surely mayweather will destroy him , khan is to easy to hit .. Apart from the obvious other factors .

I had been looking forward to the fight this past Saturday night but it turned out to be a major let down. Bute stunk it up and didn't put up much of a fight.

Bute was incredibly gun-shy. I thought that Pascall fought well - not sure he can beat the other champs at 175, but it'll be interesting watching him try

Victor Ortiz got KO'd by Luis Collazo last Saturday. Collazo has been a really good fighter for a long time - hopefully this will allow him to get some big fights now, which makes 147 a whole lot more interesting.

Bute's ascending career has ended with Froch...Bute has demonstrated he doesn't have the killer instinct...maybe another coach would do him some good but what do I know...I'm with you Binnie with Pascal not being at par with the others at 175...

I think Bute is done. His confidence has been shattered by how easily Froch destroyed him.

I don't think he's big enough to worry the guys at 175, and if he's not going to engage in fights it's a sign that his will has gone. He had a good run, but in truth he was probably lucky that he didn't run into Kessler or Abraham at 168 earlier in his career because I think he'd have been roundly beaten.

And how quickly did Victor Ortiz' career unravel? The guy can't get through the ropes without knocking himself out.
