New EVH version of Runnin' w/ the Devil

I was checking out evhgear.com today, and noticed they have a new front page.

then when you go into the frankenstrat page, music auto starts, and it is an exerpt from runnin' with the devil, only it isn't the original, it is a redo currently, must be with the new amp. Kinda sounds like an average Joe playing it, not EVH. Generic sounding

Thought it interesting enought to post in main rather than gear.

OK, it was the album version until very recently...wonder what happened? Warner Bros. clamp down on the usage?
You'd think if they were trying to sell the amp, the new clip would have been longer/more interesting...

Apparently there are more soundclips of different Van HALEN songs on the site.... you gotta click around and hunt for them. Over at Links they seem to think it sounds like Eddie's post-VDIII tone. They would certainly know that better than I.

These could possibly be from the tour rehearsals earlier this year maybe?

Yeah, now that I hear the other clips, it's definitely Eddie. The Unchained clip that you hear when you click on "The Case" sounds almost exactly like the VDIII tour version.

Yeh, that's pretty much how Ed play nowadays. Like a fifteen year old Green Day wanna be at Guitar Center anywhere USA.

Oh, and that Peavey sounds asstastic. Bring back the Marshall ED!!!!

I think I agree, but I'm confused as to what you mean by "post-VDIII"...

The tone is very close to the tone on the live Van Cherone clips on youtube...

    It's a Fender...

Doesn't matter though, still sounds like the squishy pre-amp distortion of a newer Peavey...

Timeline/Where to Buy has a bit of "Romeo Delight"

Downloads has a touch of "Hot For Teacher".
Why settle for something you have, if it's not as good as something you're out to get?

    I found them...

There's part of the solo to Runnin With The Devil, two clips of Romeo Delight (not too bad) and one or two of Hot For Teacher...

    Hmmm...

I suppose it could be worse...

Hopefully these clips were recorded pre-rehab...

That's what I'm thinking.... it's the tour rehearsals before they pulled the plug. And since the site exists to sell guitars & amps, they didn't want to include any vocals.

Yup, that's what think as well, pre-rehab recordings during the initial tour rehearsals.

That is definitely Al playing, and possibly Wolfie on the bass.

Still, nice to hear something "current" or whatever.

The Unchained intro sounds slow though.

Nope. Just a troll that strolls in every once in a blue moon with an "inside scoop" on Van Halen that amounts to old information already known written creatively, and it's been proven numerous times.

All of those clips lack the old Eddie energy. His playing is sluggish and sloppy and has been for some time now. Also, I can't handle that dry crunchy tone.

it's funny that the amp is supposed to release this month, and there is no hype what so ever about it. usually the marketing machine is going on these things. They have no momentum on it. No demo or soundclips or info other than coming soon. what a joke

On those clips, Eddie is tuned down 1/2 step like he was during the CVH days.

Cool find and thanks. Hearin' the lil' bits of classic riffage gave me the goosebumps. I actually don't mind his tone. I liked his fills on RWTD and the flang on Unchained was pretty cool too.

I also think it's a good sign that every track was CVH and did anyone notice the picks that come in the case? The REAL VAN HALEN LOGO!!!

I know I'm more optimistic than most but...

Yeah, that actually sounded pretty good.

Keep in mind folks, these recordings were obviously done "pre-rehab", so Ed certainly was not at the top of is game.

My guess is that they removed the original recordings, threw these in as a preview on how the new guitar and amp sounds like.

What do ya wanna bet spEd tries to pull a Sharon Osbourne and get Wolfie to re-record the bass tracks on all 6 of the CVH albums?

I diagree with alot here. I don't think that those sound bites are from Ed pre rehab or shit like that. The tone of that guitar and amp is definitly around the time that Balance or VHIII came out.

The sound is not the classic sound that Ed displayed on the fender stage at NAMM, and that was pre rehab. Go to Ed's gear page and click on the news section. There's the video of him playing. It's a totally differant sound.

I think they just used some sound bytes from another era, It was when he was using either the MM or wolfgang guitar, and the peavy amps.

I hear ya man...I just don't know, if Ed is playing like that, no matter how well the rest of the band plays it won't sound good...if Ed plays bad, the whole band sounds bad.
