A Little Ain't Enough Cover Art

When ALAE came out while I was in high school, I could swear that I'd either read about the cover art or seen the same design in a book, and that it was based on an old woodcut from pagan texts. When i try to find any info online all it lists is Jim Pezzullo as art director.

I'm trying to find the origin of this piece of art - I'm almost positive this was not an original piece of art commissioned for the cover. Anyone remember anything about it, have an old interview referencing the cover or anything?
