    Bass tube preamps

My SVT is in the shop and I have been using a cheap Ampeg head on the road. The Ampeg B2R. I know I need to add a small tube preamp in front of it but I know absolutely nothing about them. I'd like to find one that can give it good tube warmth, is small and in the $100-$200 price range. If any of you guys could give me some ideas about makes and models I'd really appreciate it.

    Thanks!

You might take a look at some of the new Peavey stuff because they have come out with some new bass amps that are tube based. They also use new technology that eliminates the traditional transformers so they are lighter in wieght. A big plus if you are packing a backup amp around with you.
No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!

      Get an ART Tube MP,

      this:

Up to 70dB of gain. Selectable input impedance. Precision LED metering.

It´ll do what you want, just look at the frequency range!

$100 to $200? I dunno about anything in that range worth a shit that is tube based.

Now if you want BADASS stuff, then this is the thing to get...of course it comes at a big price too.

Nothing is more badass than a real SVT. He's got one. I suggest get another and a roadie to carry them for you! LOL!

My stuff is in my truck. I'm going to try this one out tonight at Guitarget (Guitar Center).

I got a used ART Nightbass on ebay last year for $100.

It has a preset called EssVeeTee. My bass sounds like God now. It has a 12AX7 tube, and a zillion effects.

They don't make them anymore, but ART definitely is a kickass manufacturer!

Oh don't get me wrong, I think an SVT is top dog when it comes to bass amplification. However, since he was asking about preamps I figured I'd throw that out, even though I knew it was out of his price range. I was in no way suggesting that the preamp was more badass than his current amp.

Budget considerations. One of the bitches of life. I hope in the next life it's endless ass, SVT's and Marshall Plexi's!
