    TRIVIUM - 7/18/07 Gnashville...a short review

Got there in time to see the opening act. Dark Something or other.

Smoking hot band, but their lack of a killer lead vocalist (singer not shouter) is holding them back.

    But I digress.

One problem with thrash bands is that they sound good on cd, but get them live where the PA most likely sucks, or even if the PA kicks ass, the soundman is lame or whatever.

I would think it would take a very knowledgeable soundman, wise in the ways of The Thrash, who can make a thrash band sound good consistently.

AC/DC is huge because the drummer does not really go that fast.

Once you get your double-kicks beyond a certain speed on a large PA, the sound turns to fucking SHIT!!!!

Do 64th notes on your double kick pedals, when the kick channel on the console is all set to emphasize the sound of the kick below 250 hz.

It will make any thrash band's mix sound like high-volume cosmic doo-doo.

Anyway, Trivium kicked ass. Their sound guy did not turn in a decent mix. The guitars were so lost in the roar of the PA that they only popped out once in awhile during dual lead pieces or occasional solos. The vocals were audible, but just barely.

The crowd went apeshit. Probably 200-250 people, mostly metalheads under age 25.

Here are some photos. I did not get any super kickass shots, but got some that were not too bad:

Here are a couple of moshpit pictures just for the hell of it:

Check out the tat on the back of that guy's head!

Dood, that looks like a few more than 250 peeps!

I love the vox on the Crusade, not so much on Ascendancy though. Hell, they are just kids, they'll figure it out.
Once they find their 'groove' & improve their songwriting, I think they will make an 'all-time' metal classic.

The first 5-or-so songs on the Crusade just fuckin' crush, but it's kind of hit-and-miss after that.

Nice pics & glad you enjoyed the show.
    Thanks for sharing!
