    Theatrical Release for Oakland 1981

Fookin' U2 has released a Vertigo concert to theaters in 3D!

    <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/bwWFDFQxn7Q"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/bwWFDFQxn7Q" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

Why can't Ed get off his ass and clean up the footage for the 1981 shoot and put this out...

It'll never happen, but wouldn't it be nice...

    It would be super-nice.

They should get together with Kevin Shirley, who did the Led Zep dvd and also just did the Song Remains The Same surround sound upcoming release.

I wonder why they won't release this stuff. It must be a conscious decision not too, but I just can't imagine what that could be...

There's speculation that the film may be too far gone...

Personally, I think it's because Ed is a vindictive asshole...

Bang fuckin on, right there !

Donn Landee would be perfect too.

Ed should take a bit of advice from Gene $immon$ and cash in on your legacy.

    I've been a U2 Fan since 1980 and a Van HALEN fan since 1978.

One band cares about their fans, consistently puts out a great musical product ("POP" notwithstanding) and genuinely loves and respects each other as friends and human beings even more than co-workers.

The other does the exact opposite. Or at least has since 1986.

it's easier to be a U2 fan these days. But God help me, I still love Van HALEN as much as I ever did.

Exactly. Yes U2 can whore out redundant products (what is it, three DVD releases for the last two tours now?)

But they work hard, are very consistent, and produce a lot for their fans...

And yes, they don't shit all over of their 'disposable' members...

If you get a chance to catch the U23D at the iMax, do it. It's amazing. I'd kill for some VH like that.

It's just the most curious thing as to why the Van Halens and / or Warner Bros hasn't made an effort to get more CVH previously unofficially released video made available for home video purchases and viewing.

I mean, Dave is back with the band, and Ed is whoring himself out left and right in terms of slapping his name and logo on gear.

"Van Halen" now is exactly what Ed said he didn't want it to be ten years ago; a nostalgia trip.

Okay. Fine. Well, release the vaults and get EVERYTHING YOU MOTHERFUCKING GOT in terms of your past glory days with Dave out there!!

Must be some hangup over legal rights to the films or still stuff to hash out re: earnings and profit percentages with Roth, the Van Halens, Anthony and Warner Brothers...and whatever now defunct companies actually provided materials and filmed said footage. Either that, or just difficulty finding the master cans and audio reels.

Beyond that, I can't figure out why this stuff wouldn't be put out there.

I'd somewhat doubt the film would be too far gone... consider all the stuff over a decade older that has been cleaned up and released from Hendrix's archives... even crap that had been sitting in someone's closet for 20 years.

WB and VH have this stuff all tucked away in climate controlled vaults. Ed & Al just won't let it out... why? Because they can...

Maybe they're just trying to figure out a way to superimpose a CGI of Wolfie over Mike?

That holds a bit of truth... maybe not the pic replacement but then Ed would have to acknowledge the past contribution of Mike... which would eventually lead to the question of why he kicked him to the curb at a critical juncture.

For now it's easier for the addict to just replace him with junior and act like 30 years of MadAnthony Ultra-Bass never happened...

Totally agree! As long as they don't take it too far...

No "Van Halen caskets" for me, thank you very much. Besides, they'd need it anyway as a final resting place for their careers if they don't hurry the fuck up and announce some sort of plans.

Simmons was a genius in many of the ways he marketed KISS...but then he took it too far and it became a joke.

You know what? A couple of years ago I would have laughed at that as being totally ridiculous and off the wall.

But after the album cover stunt on the new website when Wolfie became "official", I wouldn't put anything past those dastardly VH brothers!

Fuck...if they can do holograms on live TV like CNN did during the election, they can pretty much do anything they want in a controlled production environment.
