That was an amazing concert. Did anyone get any good photos? I saw a bunch of people with cameras there. Security was really lax. I did see one guy get escorted out by the police during the drum solo though.

Brought my camera, but the pics didn't come out the way I wanted them too. I had to act fast and click, since security was nearby, yet luckily I was too quick to be caught. Standing about 10-20 feet near the PA's didn't help with the pictures, but I sure as hell could hear the whole damn concert and had no trouble staying awake. Next time I'll just pick seats which have a center stage view on the upper deck and not so damn close to the security. Other than that it kicked so much fuckin ass it was unbelievable!

On a side note, I knew this wasn't some phony BS get together whenI saw Alex hugging Dave. Yeah, Dave and Ed use to hate each other, but that was over creative differences. Being pissed off over Dave supposedly bangin his wife, not ever referring to each other by name in the past (i.e. the drummer, their drummer) and finally getting over it; this was the final proof for me that this reunion was for real. Wouldn't you get emotional if this was the first real sellout of arena you've seen for your band for the first time in 20+ years?

The biggest disappointment about the show was that they forgot to do the "Bah, duh duh, shooby-doo-wah!" barbershop quartet type thing in the middle of "I'm the One." I really love that part.

I'm seriously considering trying to get to the Washington, D.C. show now. That's a pretty long ways for me... probably 6 or 7 hours, but it's the closest they are coming again as of right now... and I just saw the two best rock shows of my life in Charlotte and Greensboro, and I know I'll never see anything like it again... I'm dying to have more VH tickets in my possession... there's nothing like that anticipation feeling... I want to go so bad! It was so bittersweet during "Jump" in Greensboro... the shows I had seen were mind-blowing, and I rocked out hard and had the time of my life... but I knew my tour ended there... but maybe it doesn't have to... I have GOT to get to D.C....

I think VA posted a review from the Raleigh paper earlier as being the G-town paper's review (http://www.newsobserver.com/105/story/722126.html), but here's the review from the Greensboro paper: http://www.news-record.com/apps/pbcs...STAFF/71001013

I live in Raleigh, and I think it's worth noting that Dave Menconi, the rock critic for the News & Observer, is somewhat biased toward indie rock and is not known for cutting so called "aging" or "classic" rockers a lot of slack. These shows are winning over some tough customers.

The beginning of the show was an emotional blow. Starting with the lights going down and then the tremendous roar of the crowd, which I haven't heard since the CVH days, then hearing Eddie riffing away followed by Alex and Wolf and then the spotlight on Eddie going into You Really Got Me and then the curtain in front of the drums coming down and the stage lights coming up to reveal Diamond Dave up top behind Alex just brought chills which led to watery eyes. Hyman knows.

Yeah - Parke Puterbaugh doesn't hesitate to tell you if he thinks something sucks either and has a rather strange appreciation for music that I think is pretty horrible.

Alex Van Halen (on drums), Eddie Van Halen (left) and David Lee Roth perform Saturday at the Greensboro Coliseum.
GREENSBORO — It is rare for a rock band to fill an arena these days, but Van Halen sold out the Greensboro Coliseum and virtually tore the roof off Saturday night. Between the lines of this deliriously played and received concert, you could decipher a message: Big rock is back with a vengeance.

Unlike The Police's spotty reunion tour, Van Halen took the stage well-rehearsed and determined to impress. If the band members' energy, enthusiasm and apparent camaraderie are any indication, they ought to parlay this tour into a full-fledged renaissance. Heaven knows the anemic music scene could use some of Van Halen's old-school swagger and virtuosity.

For this tour, brothers Alex and Eddie Van Halen hooked up with vocalist David Lee Roth for the first time since 1984 and replaced original bassist Michael Anthony with Eddie's teenage son, Wolfgang. With "Wolfie" on board, Van Halen seems less like a gang and more like a family.

Van Halen's rowdy persona has been further tempered by a reining in of Roth's formerly oversized ego. He remains a captivating showman, albeit less salacious (except for the occasional expletive) and more genial.

A huge, appreciative roar greeted Van Halen's arrival, and the crowd — extending up to the farthest reaches of the coliseum — remained on its feet clear through the encore, "Jump," two hours later.

At one point, the group stopped mid-song to drink in the crowd's frenzied cheering and revel in the minor miracle of their reunion, given all of the subplots that made it unlikely: the extended falling-out with Roth, both Van Halen brothers' problems with alcohol, Eddie's bout with lip cancer and recent rehab stint. There were hugs, huge smiles and — the big screen doesn't lie — a tear or two in Roth's eye.

Muscular and short-haired, attired only in rolled-up white pants and red tennis shoes, the shirtless Eddie performed like a grateful survivor making up for lost time. He played with blinding speed and exhibited a mastery over the instrument comparable to Jimi Hendrix and very few others.

Periodically Roth would scat-sing or make a noise, like the sound of a revving engine, and Eddie would mimic it perfectly. During a lengthy solo spot, he cut loose with blinding neoclassical runs and a cacophonous finale during which he rolled about the stage.

The group, particularly the volcanic core of the brothers Van Halen, were impossibly tight, barely pausing for breath as they tore through nearly two dozen tunes. A sleek, contemporary stage and massive video screen further enhanced the sense of occasion.

I've honestly never heard a band perform with such controlled fury as Van Halen during "Hot for Teacher," "Panama" and "Ain't Talking About Love."

Actually, the entire concert was a sustained, glorious,

high-energy blur — just what the doctor ordered, in other words.

Yeah I've been having the same thoughts all day. It was fun as hell
catching the cool buzz and just shooting the bullshit in the parking lot -
not to mention the show. Work is excruciating today without a Van
Halen concert to look forward to in a week. I might have to check into
the Nissan Pavillion show. Isn't that outdoors? I saw Rush there on
the T4E tour. Isn't VH playing there? That's only about a 6 or 7 hour
    trip each way....

That's just crazy talk! I wish you would have came up to the patio. It was awesome and someone there would have made sure that you and your pals would have found at least a 12 pack from the 7-11 right up the street before the show in the back seat of a car while our backs were turned.

I'd have come by with my wife, too (even though I'm a noob), but we had our 14 year old daughter and her friend with us, and I don't need anyone ensuring they find 12 packs any sooner than necessary! My daughter plays guitar. I asked her what she thought of seeing Eddie's work on the big screen. She's like "uh, he makes it look effortless, but it's never going to happen - sorry!'

Well I'm sure no one would have provided alcohol to a 14 year old young woman especially accompanied by her parents. I certainly wouldn't. If I said anything to your daughter other than introducing myself politely it would be to tell her to stay in school and get good grades. Just before I left I saw a good looking family with a young daughter and son (I think) hanging out on the other side of the patio from me with other Army members. I assumed they were with the Army crowd and they seemed to be enjoying themselves just fine. I'm sorry you missed out on a good time.

You know - its a little different with a male, 19 years old - old enough to fight and die for his country - and not some twisted idiot's jailbait...

yeah, I met that guy when he was at the Charlotte show Thursday without the family. He then brought the whole family on Saturday.

Haha! I appreciate it! It's alright though, I had a great evening just seeing Eddie and Dave together, but it would have been cool to do some light preshow partying. Maybe another time? You wouldn't happen to be going to the Washington, D.C. show, would you? After the sheer brilliance of the Van Awesome concerts in Charlotte and Greensboro, I am very seriously considering going to that show... I need more. I know I'll never see a show like that again... the best I've ever seen, and that's as close as they are getting, at least this time around. If I go, though, I'll be alone for that one. Too far away (7 hours) for my friends. I'm too much of a die-hard to miss it, though. I'm so lucky to have seen the first two shows in 23 years! I feel privileged. It was awesome that I had some money saved in the bank at the precise time that tickets went on sale. I've never really had any extra money yet, but luckily for once I did, and it was at just the right time. Roth on!

No doubt about it, and please know that I was just being flip. I just figured I'd let the adults be adults without having to worry about what 14 year olds might see/hear.

Eddie's guitar tech sucked that night. He gives Eddie a completely out of tune guitar for Jump and then doesn't bring him out a different one. Also, during the solo, Ed he was banging his guitar into the stage quite a bit and when he went into Ain't Talkin Bout Love it seemed like something was wrong with the guitar and again his tech did nothing.

Ok so this is a meetup/REVIEW thread.

Since I did not "meet up" with anyone, I can post my review, as I hear this right now.

They are in the midst of "Everybody Wants Some" right now.

Goddam this is so fucking cool.

I do agree the sound quality of this recording is not as good as the Charlotte show I got.

BUT.....you can hear the crowd and the sound of the arena much better.

    Kinda interesting.

I predicted the crowds would go absolutely fucking apeshit, and this recording is proof.

    Especially at the beginning!!!

    Good GAWD A'MIGHTY!!!!
