I have a few friends who are of African American decent and think Dave is the Shit!
A white brother with soul.

Trolls take heed...LOG OUT & FUCK OFF!!!
I would say it's a small fanbase. All of the Van Halen shows or Roth shows I've seen over the years have very few "African Americans". Actually, any rock show for that matter. Different strokes for different folks.
“Great losses often bring only a numb shock. To truly plunge a victim into misery, you must overwhelm him with many small sufferings.”
Black dudes, you mean?
I've never had a black man call me "That Scottish American Dude."
I hate Political correctness.(rant now over)
I think it's a silly and borderline racist question. Some of my brothers from the other mothers can live without it, some like CVH, and some like the Spam era VH.
What, you never heard of blacksheep?

Chris Rock:
"It's kind of sad that when you watch MTV, you don't see a lot of cool white guys anymore that are cool without acting black," he says. "Like when I was a kid, Axl Rose was cool. David Lee Roth was cool. And they were cool and white. And acting white. Comfortable in their whiteness. Now everybody tries to act black. Kid Rock looks like he sleeps in RUN-D.M.C.'s closet." - Chris Rock
I can't believe it's the 21st century and people are still asking ridiculous questions like this.
Chuck Berry. Little Richard. Muddy Waters. Robert Johnson.
Rock n Roll wouldn't exist without those guys.
Not to mention Jimi Hendrix. Phil Lynott. Living Colour. 24-7 Spyz. Fishbone. Shit, even the Dead Kennedys had an African American drummer, and he was damn good.
David Lee Roth described himself as a Black man trapped in a Jewish body. He was asked if he stole his scream from Ian Gillan of Deep Purple and replied "Hell no! I stole that scream from James Brown and the Ohio Players, baby!"
And to expand this beyond a black-white thing, let's not forget that David Lee Roth recorded an entire album in Spanish in 1986. What other rock singer has ever done that? Let alone one who is not a native Spanish speaker.
Now on the other hand, Van Hagar was Velveeta on Wonder Bread. No amount of "soul" in that shit whatsoever.

No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!
next thread please
I'd put money on that question having come up during the meetings arranging the tour. Sad but true.
The Power Of The Riff Compels Me
the question is not racist, aa are now the dominant force in the music industry today, and just wondering if vh can have any fanbase from that particular audience.
Holy shit, now black men and women are aa's?

I think the best time for any black/African-American fanbase was when Eddie was considered to be a great guitarist. Musicians tend to be much more accepting than the general population. They don't care what color or sex you are as long as you have something to say musically.
Remember how many white people accpeted MJ because Beat It had a great solo. Same probably held true for blacks who bought the albums as well.
They love van halen.
Just scared of the audience.
I don't blame 'em when I read stuff here on this site.
Don't you remember that great story on Roth radio where he met Sly Stone at a 7 eleven?
Dave said:Sly!!!
Sly said: Diamond Dave!!!!
Sly dropped his snicker bar... picked it up and his wig fell off.
Sly Stone knew Dave.
How cool is that?
First off just becuase a topic is about race does not make it"racist". Second, who fucking cares? Its hardly a big shock that rock and roll with a few exceptions stopped being "black music" a long time ago. Elvis stole his sound supposedly from Chuck Berry or whatnot in the same way Eminem stole his sthitck from NWA or whomever. Whats kind of sad is even some of the better black rockers today like Lenny Kravitz and Prince still have mediocre status in the black music community next to the no talent ex crack dealing hacks, who throw together some god awful bad poetry set to a beat, and mange to get a record deal these days.
All black people (by which I mean anyone not of the whitebread anglo saxon variety) love the fuck out of Rush. Go figure.
Naw, man, this thread ain't racist. I love Van Halen and Dave.
So there you go, Lamont has spoken. heheheh
Seriously, I don't think too many of us are into hard rock. Like someone said a few posts up, the audience can be scary. I know if I ever ran into the fryingdutchman, my black ass would be fucked. That dude has no sense of humor.
White men with no badges? You might want to get two tickets for this one.Originally posted by Little Lamont

My wife loves rockers and rock n roll in general. Her favorite is Kid Rock. Why? I have no fucking idea. She really digs VH-I more than any other VH album. She is so fired up for the tour knowing they are playing (or at least rehearsing) all of VH-I. Of course she likes the booty shaking stuff too but I like some of it too so I can't say anything about it really. lol. My wife has been around hard rock, metal and punk touring bands since before I met her. She's definitely not scared of the crowd because there will be a bunch of white people at the show.
Not racist, just stupid.Originally posted by Little Lamont

Yes, there are 347 scattered around the country.
Are you black and offended by this thread?

Does Anyone Care For This Thread?
First Roth Army Kiwi To See Van Halen Live 6/16/2012 Phoenix Arizona.
I'll make a -Blanket Statement- about the Black / White music thing as it is relevant to this thread.
I'll bet there are far more -Whites- who dig Black music.. R&B, Soul ,Reggae, good Hip-Hop, Black Jazz Fusion, musicians etc.
Than there are Blacks who listen to and or appreciate White Rock, White Country, etc....
Yes/No!
This may be worded foolishly but my point may come thru.
I know what you are trying to say thome. I totally agree with you too.
My wife, her brothers and I were talking about this thread a bit last night. The basic consensus relating to VH is that they believe most black people hear Van Halen and instantly think of Dave and Ed, Jump, Panama and Hot For Teacher, not the Sammy-era. She even made a crack about the only way black people know any song by Van Hagar is because Right Now was in a Pepsi commercial, but they still don't know Ed, Al and Mike were part of the song. lol.
I work with this cool black guy at work and he digs a lot of cool rock music, including VH.
Music always seems to tear down some walls, and that's something that I really love about it. It can appeal to anyone at anytime. No restraints or barriers. There are not many things in life better than groovin to some live music and turning your head to see everyone else around you being turned on at the same time.
Shit no!Originally posted by lonnieg5

I like this thread. If I asked if white people like Prince, the race issue would never come up. Relax...
Some Swedish people like Van Halen, including yours truly
