    Gibson Robot Guitar

This is actually pretty fuckin' cool. Built in tuner that tunes its self for you, and tells you how to set the intonation.

Check out the videos here. The one at the bottom has Bart Walsh giving a demo of how it works. The others are kinda jokes. I'd get one if it were affordable.

This will be like the floyd rose.

It'll be HELLA expensive at first. But the more companies who produce it and as time wears on, the cheaper this technology will be.

I think microprocessor-based, multi-key, self-tuning heads, also capable of determining correct intonation passes the floyd by just a bit...

The concept is similar to The Transperformance Performer self-tuning System used by Jimmy Page. This unit is amazing for open tuning players.

    Huge $$$ !!!

It would be cool on a standard Strat. People like the tone and the old original whammy system but it goes out of tune. Just have some automatic tuners that adjust for it and dump the annoying locking nut for good.

That would never work on a Strat with a tremolo. Well, OK, it would for a sec, but you'd have to retune every time you used the bar....

Otherwise, I like the idea... I totally dug the Transperformance system Page was using...

This is one of those ideas that evety guitarist has wanted
    and talked about forever...
Great stuff ! Even for standard tunings, nice to pickup
a guitar and have it in tune everytime..

Indeed it's amazing but in a way, it just shows how everything's going, you know?

I mean, it's just weird how technology works. At this rate and in twenty years, there will be a guitar that will play for you or something similar.

I dunno, an instrument such as this just takes away things for me. I'm not going to lie and say I'd turn one away if it were given to me but I still think it's a bit fucked up.

One thing's for certain, it's not going to help TEACH a kid how to properly tune and intonate a guitar, that's for sure...

You can almost file it under the "Please think for me, I can't bear to" column in a way...

i have to agree. a kid should know how to tune their own shit. imagine how much repairs would cost on that shit though.

Yeah the idea is rediculous, but it's a dream for those who use funky tunes. Going from a standard E to an Open C would be no problem. In cases like that I think this technology is fucking rad. No lag time.

I for one can't wait 'till the guitar starts playing itself...

Yeah, and that's just one more thing that could go wrong with your shit. All this computer stuff just complicates the general idea.

Plus, way too much money at this point.

    Easy Fixed ....

The owner has to program in the reference notes

I can still tune a guitar to concert E with absolutely
no musical reference.. Just listening in my head to
    a song I know is in E or A

I agree that every guitarist should know how to manually
tune. But fuck me, how many of you dudes have done
studio work ?? Anything that saves a few minutes is
a God send.. I would love to pickup a guitar and get
straight into it, instead of checking the fucking tuning
    everytime I feel inspiration..

That tuning part is like putting on a condom before
sex, you are all fired up then have to fumble around
for a few wasted minutes.. These annoyances can
definately sap energy away from the "the moment" !!

I love the idea ! (But I agree that dudes need to
know the manual method, MANDATORY !!)

    Loooking forward..

You could almost foresee a universal sync signal being
generated by these guitars, same signal could be linked
to the Bass (with a bass version of tuner)
and keyboards, and voila ! a band that is
    always in tune..

One reason i hate locking nuts is I tune my guitar at home before the gig and by the time the gear is set up it's time to play and the tempurature changes have made the guitar go out of tune.

I know Peavey Wolfgang guitars are ugly but I play one as my main gigging guitar because it doesn't go out of tune. Peavey put two massive graphite reinforcement rods in the neck and I think that was to keep a neck with no finish stable but it seems to work. That neck doesn't shift much.
