    The Bands in your area!

I don't remember of a thread of this kind in this forum, so...

We all know at least a handful of Unknown Greats around us.

Here are a few bands who ROCK in the area - all of them are my buds, but I would show their stuff if they weren't too!

I live on the French side of Lake Geneva. Both in Geneva and in the nearest big town across the French-Swiss boarder, there's a big gig circuit and a pretty active independent record industry. Some of the bands here are real killers, music-wise and showmanship-wise, even.

Here's MOTOCROSS, a "ska/metal" band who play real loud and fast, with horns.
Samir, the singer, is THE performer in the area (certain nights, we think "in the universe" ): he plays magic tricks between songs, delivers incredible, kickass speeches (he's a professional actor too), frequently changes clothes on stage and ends every concert naked with a pyrotechnic rocket in his butt!

I saw them a dozen times on stage, and each time, even if you know them well, it's not less amazing...
In May, on the weekend following the election of Sarkozy, the new French president (a curse...), he came see me just before his band was on, asked me, with a nearly empty Scotch bottle he'd been busting to "warm up", if I had noticed policemen in civvies (he's so subversive that the police send some to their gigs!), and there actually were... He showed me an anti-Sarkozy speech he had written and wanted to pronounce in public, especially if those cops in civvies were there... which he did, in an inordinately, awesome, histrionic vociferating way...

Here's a link to their myspace, where you unfortunately don't find a proper video of them on stage, but 3 songs that give you an idea:

Now, feel free to post links or vids of the Bands that ROCK in your own area!

    Now here's the WRENSH.

They play very, very fast punk/hardcore, with 15-second, 30-second, 1'10" or 1'55"-"long" songs!

They're really impressive, even if you aren't really into that music style (I am not). I dig the 15-second track concept, it's hilarious!
The guitarist singer offered me to sing in his new other band (classic hard rock), and I said OK, but I'm not so comfortable about it, as they're all professionals, so you have to be very sharp...

Now the KRACKHAND, my great Buddies (the double-bass player/ singer plays the guitar in my own band), who do what they call "rockabilly" themselves, but they also play plain rock and blues.

Motocross's singer's twin bro, Samy, is a true Wizard on (solo) guitar. Every time he does a solo it's the same amazement!

    Have an ear!

All right... Here is another band that's, er... not really the same level.

My own band, the Evil Monkeys, is about "easy", simple (simplist?) rock - my g/f says "basic rock" -, but well, people haven't thrown any tomatoes at us yet, and they seem to have a good time at our gigs.

I'm a bit uncomfortable, because I'm responsible for the vocals and lyrics...
And we aren't objectively among the best bands around here - luckily, for the other groups!

Anyway, there are 4 songs here (don't bash me too hard! ):

Jagermeister's recent thread reminded me of this one I started a while ago, inroducing a couple of the bands in my area. I'd started with the ones including my buds. Unfortunately, I'd posted myspace links, which are almost null and void now because myspace is hardly ever used anymore (and it wasn't much even 8 years ago).
Now I'm just re-posting about them, starting with Motocross with extraordinaire buddy Samir on vocals, who is an actor who can play "Volpone" for example, can you imagine that? A Performer!

Here are 40 mn from a concert in the area.

The Krackhand now perform with Lula, doing acrobatics and playing with fire. The lead guitar player, is Samir's bro.
They're all buds, especially the double bass player who plays guitar in another band we're in.

The Wrensh are a little more... radical.

Here's one from a band from the area I'm from (north of France). I'm no fan of those guttural vocals, but before I (soon) get bored at them I enjoy the music, like the riff in this tune. They've been playing for over 20 years, and it's a more recent version of a 15-year-old (or so) tune:

    Loudblast (Lille, France)
