Thumbs up "Love Is Alright Tonight!" Is Sammy's Best Song

Brethren and Sistren, Soldiers and Civilians...

This song has it all... 'baby', 'jive', 'honey', 'love', and signature guitar licks from Sam in his youth...

Personally, I like Rick's cover version better... anyone else, including Jesse's girl, want to chime in on this all-important topic?

    Carry on,

"I'm going out on the town tonight to get as wild as I can be.
I'm gonna find out what its really like to get loose, high, and free."

Its pretty easy to imagine Dave or Sam getting high and free...but a little more difficult seeing Rick Springfield doing that. lol.

that goes for the BREAST of you, too.

Fat Sammy loves love, and he knows what it takes and he knows how to use it. quit your jive talking, telling me lies.

    and starting fucking fires.

For the Love of Jive, now there's a catch phrase and potential Van Hagar album title if ever I heard one.

Rick is returning the favor. Sammy gave him "I've Done Everything for You" and Rick returns it with "Love Is Alright Tonite".

Doesn't matter though, "Living in Oz" is still the best album.

    RANTS:

    1. Human Touch (Springfield) - 5:07
    2. Alyson (Springfield) - 3:47
    3. Affair of the Heart (Springfield) - 4:32
    4. Living in Oz (Springfield) - 3:47
    5. Me & Johnny (Springfield) - 4:25
    6. Motel Eyes (Springfield) - 3:12
    7. Tiger by the Tail (Springfield) - 3:30
    8. Souls (Springfield) - 4:05
    9. I Can't Stop Hurting You (Springfield) - 3:30
    10. Like Father, Like Son (Springfield) - 2:55

Though this was Rick Springfield's ninth album, it seemed like the third to most pop music fans, as it came on the heels of his breakthrough, Working Class Dog, and its successful follow-up, Success Hasn't Spoiled Me Yet. And though this contained as many hits as the aforementioned collections, it isn't remembered as quite the same in terms of accomplishment; this may be because it is so personal that it's just not as accessible. Living in Oz is Springfield's response to the dance-pop wave that was just starting to build and would be prominent until grunge announced its presence, as well as his response to the naysayers who wouldn't accept him as a serious musician. Where earlier hits, like "Jessie's Girl" and "Don't Talk to Strangers," were well-crafted pop tunes, on this release he shows an edge and a maturity he hadn't before. By embracing the synthesizers he also shows contempt for, he is able to illustrate how they're changing music and the way fans mindlessly embrace them. This sets up a dichotomy between the coldness of synths and about the need for the human touch — whether it's with a mistress, a friend, or a father — as each cut is about the need for that touch or about the consequences of it. Be it of adultery (a sexually charged "Alyson"), youthful dreams of fame (a spare, unsentimental "Me & Johnny"), or his upbringing (the restrained indictment "Like Father, Like Son"), the entire CD is like a confessional, and that type of honesty suits Springfield well as he matures as an artist and not just as a pop idol. Living in Oz ranks among his best.Bryan Buss

    Hitchman,

You oughta know me better than that... I'm a child of the 80s and RS is right up there with the best of them... I'd never pull a cheap stunt like comparing RS to SH just for a laugh... RS is too good for that... lol

Springfield has more credibility than sAM ever will.

    That's sad.

The only difference between "Love is aleright tonight" and "I've done everthing for you" is the 1st 1 is almost rock.

The answer is The Bullet Boys. The movie was Wayne's World II.

The strange thing is that singer Marq Torien is a complete Dave rip off yet he chose to cover a Sammy song. Go figure.

I wouldn't say as of late... I would say the album with "Mas Tequila" on it has sold more than what Springfield has ever done in the 90's.

I'm not sure about comparing the 3 80's albums-

Standing Hampton, 3 lock box, and VOA vs. working class dog, success hasn't spoiled me yet, and living in oz.

Van Hagar vs. Springfield's mid 80's stuff... well I would say Hard to Hold soundtrack with "love somebody" and "bop till you drop" is better than the even tracks on 5150, but I think they've sold about equal together.

I think that might have been the now infamous Bulletboys on Waynes World Two perhaps? I think that's it anyway.
