Yanks 2 1/2 games behind the Cards for the best record in baseball. I know it doesn't matter if they meet in the WS because the AL won the All-Star game. Which is a stupid way to decide home advantage but we've been through this already.

The Yanks do have the best home record.

The Yankees are on a losing streak right now. Better now than later though.

But, I tell you this much if their hitting and pitching falter at the same time in the playoffs like it is now they're doomed.

They're such an offensive juggnaut that if they are on they can get by with their soft pitching. Just get the lead and give the ball to Mariano.

Can't wait for the Yanks to get back home. They've been on the road alot lately. Maybe the home cooking will get them back on track.

It will take more than home cookin'...

    they need pitching...

and Arod to pull his head out of his ass...

Soriano was far more valuable to this team last year than ARod is to this team this year...

The playoffs are going to be interesting...because let's face it...record or not...the Yanks are not the same team...

and they've got nothing comin' up...

Now you Yank fans can just say we'll buy another team...

but fact of the matter is this...the ONLY good Yankee teams...are the teams that have homegrown talent supported by superstars...

It will be years before the Yanks win another series...

Oh I agree Pojo. The Yanks aren't the dominant team that they were in the mid-late nineties. It's not going to be easy. If their pitching gets on a roll and their hitting is on though they'll be tough. Get the lead and give the ball to Mariano (two innings in the playoffs).

Conversely, if they hit a dry spell. Especially pitching wise they'll be doomed.

BTW, where the fuck is my vote!

I think things are gonna get worse for the pitching....

NEW YORK (AP) -- Kevin Brown might have punched himself out of the pennant race, and the New York Yankees are angry about it.

Brown broke his non-pitching hand when he punched a wall in the clubhouse Friday night during New York's 3-1 loss to the Baltimore Orioles.

``You just can't do this, there's no doubt about it. You've got to keep your emotions in check,'' Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said. ``It's a major issue that we shouldn't be dealing with. It's a problem.''

Especially at this point in the year. The loss cut New York's AL East lead to just 2 1/2 games over the Red Sox, its smallest margin since before games of June 12. The Yankees led by a season-high 10 1/2 games on Aug. 15.

Now they might be without one of their best pitchers down the stretch. Frustrated by an injury-filled season, Brown's hot temper could cost the Yankees at the most important time.

``Stupidity,'' he said, choosing his words carefully.

``I reacted to frustration I'd swallowed all year. ... There are no excuses. I let it boil over and I did something stupid. I owe my teammates an apology for letting my emotions take over like that.''

Already short on starting pitching, the Yankees were unsure how long the 39-year-old right-hander might be out. He was to be examined by a hand specialist Saturday.

``My plan is to splint it and pitch. I just pray that my stupidity didn't hurt the team,'' he said.

Acquired from Los Angeles last offseason, the oft-injured Brown (10-4) missed seven weeks in June and July with a strained lower back and intestinal parasite. He tweaked his knee while covering first base on an awkward play in the fifth inning Friday, then was hit on the right forearm by Miguel Tejada's RBI single in the sixth.

Steamed by it all, he walked around the clubhouse in the middle of the sixth and punched a wall, breaking two bones in his left hand.

That was the end of his night.

After the game, Cashman and Yankees manger Joe Torre were visibly annoyed. All-Star catcher Jorge Posada refused to answer questions about Brown's injury.

Cashman said Brown could be disciplined or fined. Torre said he spoke to Brown and expressed his disappointment.

``Certainly uncalled for and unnecessary,'' Torre said. ``There's more to this game than one person. We rely on him a great deal. It's not something that's helping the team, obviously.''

After the game, the Yankees began reviewing Brown's contract to determine whether a self-inflicted injury could void the guarantee language, one baseball official said on the condition of anonymity. No determination had been made, the official said.

Brown is earning $15 million this year and is due $15 million in 2005, the final season of his $105 million, seven-year deal.

And that typifies what happens when you get away from Torre making decisions on players...and have Steiney at the helm...

The Yanks are fucking toast...no way they have the staff WITH Brown in the lineup...

LMFAO...that last statement shows you where the Yanks are...

gazing at contracts...looking for a way to fucking void them...

Shitty management...when it's all said and done.

and it's always been. The only good thing that Steinbrenner did was hire Torre...and give him some control...once that ended...so did the Yankee reign...

let's not forget...the only time the Yankees were good under Torre are the first couple of years when he bought them...because he didn't have time to deal away all his young guys...

and in 1996 on...after he gave Torre some creedance...and they had some good youngsters...

More good news for the Yankees....

BRONX, New York (Ticker) -New York Yankees righthander Kevin Brown underwent surgery Sunday for a broken left hand and is expected to miss at least three weeks and perhaps the rest of the season.

Brown broke his non-pitching hand when he punched a wall after Friday night's loss to Baltimore.

The surgery was performed by hand specialist Dr. Melvin Rosenwasser and Yankees team physician Dr. Stuart Hershon at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. Pins were inserted in Brown's fractured fifth metacarpal bone and third metacarpal bone.

"Three weeks, that is the optimistic scenario," Yankees manager Joe Torre said. "The worst case is that he won't be able to pitch for us the rest of the year."

The injury could not have come at a worse time for the Yankees, who lead Boston by just 2 1/2 games in the American League East.

Brown had allowed three runs and five hits in six innings Friday. He apparently was upset about a smash that went off his arm and hurting his knee on a groundout.

The 18-year veteran, who is making $15.7 million this season, has battled injuries throughout his first season in New York.

"Stupidity," Brown said. "I reacted to the frustration I swallowed all year. I did a good job of controlling it until this point. There are no excuses. I let the frustration boil over."

Brown's bosses were not happy with the incident, which leaves the team's already shaky rotation with yet another question mark.

"It's a major injury that we shouldn't have to be dealing with, but we are," Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said. "You just can't do that. There are no excuses."

Brown is 10-4 with a 3.99 ERA for New York.

    The Yanks won today!

Are the STL Cardinals going to ever lose again?

If the Yanks don't do it I hope STL does.

I still feel sorry for them being ripped off in '85.

17-8 loss to a last place team???

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Joe Torre was left speechless by the New York Yankees' latest embarrassing loss.

Two weeks ago, when Cleveland shocked the top team in the AL with a 22-0 clobbering, the Yankees manager called his players to a meeting.

But after the Kansas City Royals scored 10 runs in the fifth inning of a 17-8 rout Monday night, Torre decided just to let it go.

``I don't know what I would say to them,'' Torre said. ``We didn't pitch very well. We know we can score runs, but in order to win you need to pitch. It was not a good day.''

John Buck hit a three-run homer and Angel Berroa had two hits and scored twice in the fifth inning.

The Royals sent 15 men to the plate against four pitchers in the biggest inning against the Yankees since Boston scored 11 in a 13-7 victory on May 31, 1998.

It was the second double-digit inning in a week for the Royals, the AL's losingest team. They scored 11 in the third inning of a 26-5 victory Thursday over the Detroit Tigers.

On Monday, Kansas City scored on a walk, a balk, two wild pitches, a home run and three singles and dropped New York's lead to three games in the AL East over idle Boston.

While the Yankees go for a championship, the Royals are nearing the end of a miserable season -- concentrating on not breaking the franchise record of 100 losses.

``Every time a team is in first place they don't want to play a last-place team because the last-place team wants to show they belong in the big leagues,'' Royals manager Tony Pena said. ``They have nothing to lose.''

Kansas City????? Wow.... Stienbrenner's blood pressure must outta sight over this.....

SOMEBODYS ass is gonna get kicked for these losses. Wanta bet if this continues in any fashon Torre gets his walking papers????
