Metallica and Run DMC are among the artists that will be nominated into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year.

Both bands formed in the US approximately 25 years ago and are widely considered to be among the most influential bands in their genres.

Run DMC were pioneering hip-hop artists in the early 1980s and achieved great success when they collaborated with Aerosmith to remake 'Walk This Way'. The rap duo Joseph "Run" Simmons and Darryl "DMC" McDaniels lost their DJ, Jam Master Jay, in a 2002 shooting.

Metallica have been an enduring force in heavy metal, releasing their first album in 1983 and their latest album, 'Death Magnetic', in 2008. Their self-titled album reached the top of the US Billboard chart in 1991, and they have been one of the most critically acclaimed heavy metal bands in the US.

Guitarist Jeff Beck, who has collaborated with the likes of Mick Jagger and Stevie Wonder and is widely considered one of the world's best guitarists, will also be inducted.

The complete list of 2009 inductees is:

    Jeff Beck
    Little Anthony & the Imperials
    Metallica
    Run-D.M.C.
    Bobby Womack

    Early Influence Category Inductee:
    Wanda Jackson

    Sidemen Category:
    Bill Black
    DJ Fontana
    Spooner Oldham

The induction ceremony is set to take place on April 4 and will be held in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's home city of Cleveland for the first time in more than 10 years. It will be broadcast live in the US on Fuse TV.

I believe that there is a panel made up of execs.

Metallica & Jeff Beck, well deserved. But where are Rush, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, the fucking Stooges for Christ's sake?

If you're going to do something, do it properly.

So Chic and War missed out huh? Run DMC gets in ahead of them? Idiots. And screw Metallica.

Not that any of this matters, the hall's a joke. Kiss? Moody Blues? Does King Crimson stand a chance? list goes on and on.

For those of you who haven't been there, they have about an hour video, playing snippets from every one of the inductees....

I shit you not, I sat there with a "what the fuck ??" look on my face for about 80% of them....

Every year I get pissed that KISS and Alice Cooper aren't nominated. There's no way they should be out all this time.

Alice Cooper should be in by now, no question about it.

Kiss deserves the honor, but only if it's Gene, Paul, Ace, and Peter. And I'm sure Chaim's ego is the big roadblock there.

The Stooges, sadly will probably make next years list because Ron Asheton died. Just like the Ramones got in after Joey died. The Clash were already voted in before Strummer died, but not officially inducted until after (which really sucked, because I was looking forward to them playing together at the ceremony)

It's a political thing for sure. The RRHOF was funded and is run by the industry. It starts with Jann Wenner (Rolling Stone's) favorites, then Warners (it was until Ahmet Ertgeun died anyway), then Universals and so forth.

From there you've got to distill down. They realized after a certain point you have to start including hip hop acts, an old soul act, and edgy choice (witness Patti Smith) then some hits makers. From THAT list, you've got whittle it down to functional acts, as they have to perform (witness VH meltdown). Then you have to run it by the artists, some who flat out say no (witness Black Sabbath) or that they aren't ready to perform.

That's why there are not more obvious choices in there.

I think Ozzy only said no after they were refused the fourth time.
