    Stimulus breakdown by city

Found this interesting site. All I can say is to look at it for yourself. I see Wilmington, DE with $54 million to create 84 jobs. Sounds like a bad use of taxpayer dollars. Then I see Alton, IL with $7.2 million for 500 jobs, which sounds like a much more productive use of money.

Since I'm not really familiar with these towns and their needs, I went to the San Diego page. One gross waste of money I see is $3.5 million for the "Rose Creek Bike Path". This is a very small bike path along a portion of Mission Bay. It's not great but is still very usable. Sure it could probably use an upgrade or two, but very few people actually use it in comparison with the local population. People on bikes in that area are more likely to hit the nearby boardwalks in Mission, Ocean, & Pacific Beach or La Jolla.

Maybe your city is in here and you can shed some light on your local projects.

8,000 jobs sounds pretty good though. I hope those are sustainable jobs and not just one time contacting services and such.

Mentor, Ohio, where i work, and lived one town over or ten minutes away from for most of my life...$14,813,000.00 and 156 jobs.

Mentor is just about the biggest retail center in the state, and it's got a decent amount of commercial property.

$1 mil to resurface various asphalt streets, and another mil to do full depth concrete repairs to various streets. 22 jobs total, but from what i've seen those jobs go to contractors/best bidder and likely won't be new jobs, especially if the contractor is not a Mentor company.

$3 mil to resurface Tyler Boulevard from SR 615 to SR 306. Tyler is the major commercial corridor in the city, and it is a shitty road. four lanes with no turning lane and "expansion joints" that give ya that "thump thump thump" ride. the local titty bar is on this road too, so i travel it often. 15 contractor jobs.

$5 mil to widen Heisley Road from 2 lanes to 4 lanes from Jackson Street to Mentor Avenue (US 20). this one's gonna be a bitch. Heisley is one of the city's major north/south corridors connecting the freeways to the commercial and retail areas. there are a lot of old homes on this stretch and those people are going to lose a lot of front yard. sucks to be them but they knew it was coming eventually. 20 contractor jobs.

$2.2 mil to renovate and expand the police department. building isn't really that old (late 70's maybe) but they love their traffic and DUI rev-o-noo so this is no surprise. $255,000 for three more cops, too, two of which will likely be flaming assholes because that's typically what Mentor PD hires. can you tell that this is where i get most of my speeding tickets? 50 jobs, doubtful that city guys will be doing the work.

$300,000 to replace bulkheads at the city owned marina. a marina the city didn't really have the money to buy but they kept it out of the hands of developers and accessible to the public. more contractor jobs.

a bunch of energy improvement projects. we did these at work and most of them were contractors, our maintenance did maybe 20% of the work.

156 jobs and the three cops will probably be the only new and sustainable ones.

Mine is, and the totals are odd to say the least. $84,887,500.00 that creates 517 jobs, the majority of which are landscaping jobs. Only 5 new police officers will be hired, yet at least some of the money is going toward departmental upgrades. More than anything, the money looks to be spent on projects to make the city prettier, while ignoring some of it's more pressing needs.

I'll resist the temptation here to make a joke about Charlie Crist & decorating.

One of my uncles actually lived in Waco for a while, but that was in the 70's. Great bass fishing, horrible humidity around there.

There will probably be some major money going into the toxic waste cleanup a few miles west of Waco though...... in Crawford when they knock down that phony mansion that Chimpy used as a stage prop for the last 8 years.

lol you got pwnd ford... here's my cities' (all of them have grown into the metroplex and I have worked in several of them from one residence) data:

    City...................Dollars.............................Jobs
    Arlington.............$387,363,019.00............. ..2,567.20.
    Bedford...............$39,205,000.00.............. ..532.00.
    Blue.Mound..........$6,500,000.00................. .86.00.
    Carrollton............$8,000,000.00............... ...2,000.00.
    Dallas.................$1,222,823,842.00.......... ..12,124.00.
    Euless................$104,336,300.00............. ..1,306.00.
    Flower.Mound......$1,536,177.00..................3 1.00.
    Fort.Worth..........$1,707,290,000.00............2 1,344.00.
    Frisco.................$259,320,000.00............ ..21.25.
    Garland...............$23,336,650.00.............. ..0.00..(lol.what)
    Grand.Prarie........$115,076,546.00............... 2,461.00.
    Hurst.................$45,316,510.00.............. ..739.00.
    Irving.................$1,287,330,336.00.......... ..9,058.00.
    McKinney............$33,018,000.00................ 815.00.
    Mesquite............$23,290,000.00................ .0.00.
    N.Richland.Hills....$677,628,804.00............... 2,051.50

Total: $5,941,371,184 and 55,135.95 jobs... and that's just from skimming the list, and only for cities within about 30 miles or so from where I love (give or take). LOL, Blue Mound has maybe a thousand people tops and they even got money. Guess we have better representatives than you. ;)

LA's list is too big to post here, but roughly $7.3 Billion for 82,000 jobs...only a million spent on green energy programs..my neighborhood and office's district are getting the energy-saving street lighting retrofit...that's not a bad thing, I guess...

No worries Ford. The "twin" cities I live in now didn't make it...Murrieta & Temecula, CA (About 45 minutes N of San Diego, & 60 minutes SE of Los Angeles). Murrieta population around 75,000, not sure about Temecula but it's larger than that. Tons of wineries too. Either they didn't request money for two reasons..they didn't feel the need or they fucked up & didn't get a request in in time. Or maybe the list is incomplete.

Every post in this thread is another reason to say fuck this bill, start over.

This reads more like a "funding dream list" than the best bang for the buck for ALL americans.

Most of these, as pointed out above, might sustain existing jobs, but they aren't really long term solutions to anything. We aren't really (outside of green energy) talking about rapidly funding new INDUSTRIES, with long term jobs, we are talking about fixing the place up to make a few extra bucks. Don't get me wrong, the place certainly does need fixing up, but that should be after we have a paycheck to go to the Home Depot with.

Jhale, aren't you happy though that they will finally be fixing up those shithole apts? The illegal immigrants who they will hire with no social, sending the money back home, that will really perk up the local economy.

    and.. EDIBLE!

You may not know this, but that area of the Mission Bay Bike Path runs between a high-dollar condo development of over one dozen units total near the golf course and is paved in Yellowtail Sushi rolls.

Of course it is going to be costly, but I'm hungry now not 20 years from now when there's nothing left to eat.

I can just see all the sandpiles for all the stucco work being interrupted by the 6 month vacations the beaners take from September to March sitting curbside, while the construction trailers sit idle collecting parking citations, graffiti and the homeless who sleep underneath all down Glenoaks and San Fernando Road.
