The more I listen to it, the more I like it. It is like an actual "album". All songs sound great played in sequence. To me it sounds best to listen to it as a whole. I'm loving it.

So...did anyone check out Johnny Colt's new show on the Travel Channel last night? It was occasionally engaging but a tad talky, with a ton of "new age" sounding spiritualism involved. Here is some more info on the program.

Johnny Colt Heads to Thailand in the Premier of 'At Full Volume'

Former Bass Player for the Black Crowes Travels the World in 'At Full Volume'

What would you get if you mixed one part MTV and one part Survivor? You're about to get the answer courtesy of Johnny Colt and the Travel Channel.

Johnny Colt's "At Full Volume" will chronicle the experiences of JC as he travels to various parts of the world and gives us an all access pass to lands and cultures that most of us have only read about.

Colt's musical resume reads like a rock star's wish list. Best known as a member of the Black Crowes, Colt has also played with some of the best musicians and bands in the world including the Grammy award winning band Train and Rock Star Supernova. Colt also co-hosts the Atlanta AM radio talk show Politely Disruptive on WMLB AM1690 (the Voice of the Arts). And much like Johnny's music, "At Full Volume" will be devoid of borders, boundaries and will most likely appeal the adventurer in all of us.

In the show's premier Johnny travels to Thailand. Click here to read about his journey and just a few of the experiences that awaited him there.

"At Full Volume" premiers Monday, September 7th at 9PM.

I saw the show last night pretty good except for the part where he had some buddist monk tattoo some prayer on the back of his skull.

That is why tattooists love fat dudes, more canvas.

At least his tats were spread over a long list of memories and times.

That I dig and respect.. the tat as color or fasion.

I am sick for 17 year old douche nozzles covered in ink and they have never left the 10 mile radius of thier home.

They look like the drunk ass at the party and when he passes out all the chicks write skribbly sh!t all over them.

    This, I respect..............just a OP

I hope Johnny does more shows, the local music searches and people he met were cool.

This has nothing to do with the topic in hand but fuck am I ever sick of teenagers with full sleeves of tattoos. If your mother can afford to give you money to get that done to yourself then you're not badass enough to deserve to have sleeve tattoos you fuckin' dolt!

So, the store-bought Before the Frost I think is fantastic! Groove, feel, sounds great. Very much like Southern Harmony. I have it on heavy rotation. The tune Appaloosa is a highlight for me.

The download disk, Until the Freeze.....I can see why it didn't make the cut for the actual album. Too slow. Brooding. A little Boring. Very few highlights, although it would be very listenable out on the deck with a few beers, or late night with a fine lady ( and a few drinks).

News posted at the band's website last month...

    To Everyone Who's Cared:

Gladdest of tidings and happiest of New Years - so say all of us in The Black Crowes musical group!

Just a quick note to begin our future and a glance over our collective shoulders at what once was.

A heartfelt and sincere thank you is well in order, not just for the last tour, but for the last mystifying 20 years (WTF!). Without your support and interest we would be nothing but a void. With the breath of life, and the travels to and fro, a lump of clay is now a lifetime of song and adventure.

Thank you for letting us drive this outer space covered wagon to wherever fate and the wild winds take us.

Thank you for the freedom that music has gifted us and so many others.

As 2010 begins we would like to let you in on the next epic phase of Crowedom.

We just finished a new 20+ song set of Crowes' catalogue recorded acoustically with the full band and a few other friends. We're very excited about the session and feel it represents where we've been, who we are, and where we're going.

Expect more messages as the year progresses. Take care of yourself, that is take care of each other.
Love and respect....and the band played on.

It's a shame VH couldn't do something like this, or maybe just say Happy New year on their website. The more I read about modern day VH the more i'm giving less of a fuck about them as each day passes.

They did. The depth of emotion in the announcement was nothing short of breathtakingly underwhelming.

THE BLACK CROWES TO RELEASE DOUBLE STUDIO

ALBUM OF ALL ACOUSTIC MATERIAL TO COMMEMORATE

    THEIR 20th ANNIVERSARY

“SAY GOODNIGHT TO THE BAD GUYS” 2010 TOUR

    WILL KICK OFF AUGUST 13

    INDEFINITE HIATUS TO FOLLOW TOUR

    20th ANNIVERSARY VIP PACKAGES AVAILABLE

In celebration of the 20th year anniversary of their 1990 debut multi platinum release “Shake Your Money Maker,” The Black Crowes will release their first ever double album of all acoustic material on August 3, 2010.

After touring in 2009, The Black Crowes spent time at the Sunset Sound Studios in Los Angeles, recording over 20 songs from their 20 year history. The band arranged acoustic versions of many of their best loved songs and the band’s catalogue picks.

The double album, Croweology, will be sold at the cost of a single album as a “Thank You” to their fans for 20 years of support. Also to be released on vinyl, the project was produced by Paul Stacey and will be released on The Black Crowes label, Silver Arrow, through Megaforce Records.

In late summer, The Black Crowes will kick off their “Say Goodnight to the Bad Guys” 2010 Tour which will feature three hour performance sets in most markets. The shows are being billed as “Acoustic Hor D’oeuvres followed by an Electric Reception With The Black Crowes,” and will consist of a full hour and a half acoustic set followed by a full hour and a half electric set, except where noted below *.

The tour will begin on August 13 in Milwaukee and is presently scheduled to conclude with the band’s annual multi-night stand at the Fillmore in San Francisco on December 19, 2010.

Following their 2010 “Say Goodnight to the Bad Guys” Tour the band has planned a lengthy hiatus.

Chris Robinson had this to say, “With a smile so wide you can count my teeth and with a heart so full of love that it is spilling over the rim, I offer a humble and simple thank you. Thank you for your time, your imaginations, your heartaches and joy. Thank you for 20 years of cosmic rock n roll. 20 years of keeping it weird. 20 years of chasing horizons and before the band that dares dream out loud puts it down for a while, we are proud to give you our Croweology. This year the music is only for you as we celebrate what has been, what is now and whatever will be”.

Rich Robinson said, “At this milestone in our career, I feel very fortunate that I have had the opportunity to spend my life making music. It’s been 20 years since we started out on this journey. I would like to extend my deep gratitude to all of our fans who have been there with us along the way. We would not have gotten here without your support. Every night I stand on the stage I feel great pride and respect for what we share with our fans. After this tour we are going to take some much needed time to spend with our families. But for now, we are very much looking forward to a great year of touring. I look forward to seeing all your familiar faces again on the road. See you soon.”

Steve Gorman added, “20 Years Gone - To look back over the past twenty years …there are so many thoughts, feelings, and memories of all shapes and sizes that it's tough to process it all. Lots of ups and downs, lots of everything. One can easily get lost in the labyrinth of those many experiences. However, there is one constant - and that's an overwhelming sense of gratitude to all of you that have supported us for the past twenty years. Our tour this year serves as a very large THANK YOU to all in attendance. Whether you have seen us one time, ten times, a hundred times, or more, it goes without saying that we wouldn't be here without you. The lives that we all lead, and the opportunities that we have been presented with, all trace directly back to your support. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! And after this tour, we'll be taking a nice, long, much needed break. We are all in agreement (no, seriously, we are!) that this is the right time to spend time with our families, friends, outside musical and non musical projects and of course, our personal lives. So, we're going out swinging with all we got. Let's all join hands and share the ride!”

For the 90's definitely. I lost interest after Amorica.
I think your songwriting ability diminishes if it's just the two brothers writing. Have they co-written or as I'd word it, shared their talent, with others writing songs?

THE BLACK CROWES: Double Acoustic Album, TV Performances, Tour And Indefinite Hiatus - July 1, 2010
THE BLACK CROWES take flight like never before with their first-ever double album of all acoustic material, "Croweology". Due out Tuesday, August 3 via band's label Silver Arrow through Megaforce Records, it features new arrangements of their best-loved songs and the band's catalogue picks. The iconic and influential band will celebrate the album's release that evening with a performance on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and perform the next night, Wednesday, August 4, on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" Next, they'll kick off a four-month North American tour August 13. It will wrap December 19 with an epic six-night stand in San Francisco at The Fillmore December 12-19, after which Chris Robinson (vocals/guitar), Rich Robinson (guitar), Steve Gorman (drums), Sven Pipien (bass), Luther Dickinson (guitar) and Adam McDougall (keyboards) will go on a lengthy hiatus to catch their collective breaths and spend time with their families.

"Croweology" spans THE BLACK CROWES' revered catalog with acoustic renditions of 20 songs from their two decades of cosmic rock 'n' roll. Commemorating the 20th anniversary of their landmark multi-platinum debut, 1990's "Shake Your Moneymaker", "Croweology" gives listeners an intimate retrospective, stripping away these fan and band favorites like "Jealous Again", "Remedy", "She Talks To Angels" and "Wiser Time" to their very essence through brand new recordings, captured in 2009 at Sunset Sound Studios in Los Angeles. Given its scope and bright approach, the Paul Stacey-produced "Croweology" is worth studying for both longtime fans and newcomers alike.

In order to thank fans for 20 years of support, "Croweology" will be priced at the cost of a single album. In addition, it will be available on vinyl and as an iTunes LP. Listeners will get their first taste of "Croweology" when "Jealous Again" and "Morning Song" hit radio this week.

Following the album's release, THE BLACK CROWES will hit the road — with multiple nights in many key markets — on their "Say Goodnight To The Bad Guys" tour. In most cities, the band will perform for three hours: a 90-minute "Acoustic Hors D'oeuvres" set, followed by a 90-minute "Electric Reception with The Black Crowes".

While on tour, THE BLACK CROWES will be inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame on September 11 at the 32nd annual Georgia Music Hall of Fame awards show. The official induction will feature a live performance by THE BLACK CROWES. Presented by Friends of Georgia Music Festival, Inc., the evening will take place at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in North Atlanta. The event marks the third decade that the non-profit organization has recognized Georgia's accomplished artists and musicians for outstanding achievements.

Cool idea for a new record, and the 90-90 acoustic-plugged shows will be incredible!

I thought Before the Frost was their best record since Amorica. Magic!

    Agreed!

Personally speaking , I absolutely love this band ! I'm still digesting " Before The Frost...Until The Freeze " . It's in my CD tray as we speak . I got my tix for this show for Friday Night , August 27th. at The Pageant . I love seeing the Crowes at The Pageant because it becomes the worlds largest ganja den . This will be my 14th. Crowes concert .
Eagerly awaiting " Croweology " Thanx for posting that info .

Man... wouldn't it be cool with the Crowes going on hiatus if David pulled Pete Angelus back into the VH fold... maybe a hostile takeover from the gold digging porn star who currently 'manages' (lmao!) the band.

Here's a no-miss similarity I noticed concerning both the Black Crowes and way back to Van Halen when Peter Angelus managed them .
Every time that I saw Van Halen back in the day ( 4 times ) , they always had a shitty opening band that would be boo-ed off the stage not to mention being mercilessly pelted with debris . Then - Van Halen would take forever to start their show thus greatly raising the crowd anticipation .
Everytime that I saw the Black Crowes they would always have some shitty unknown band open for them while the crowd suffered through their set . ( Seems like the much mellower Black Crowes crowd was more forgiving ) , however , once again , the Black Crowes would take forever to take it to the stage - once again raising the anticipation to see the headliner .
Kind of a " Keep 'em waitin' in anticipation " attitude by both bands while employing inferior opening bands that make the headliners look that much better .

Compare the Crowes' output and activity to Van Halen's since they both 'reunited'... sad.

For the Black Crowes it seems to be all about the music... for Van Halen it seems all about ego. The Crowes weren't concerned with coming back and ruling the world... they just made music. From what I hear the biggest hold up in getting any new material from VH is the 'fear' that everyone is gonna think it sucks or it's not gonna be some kind of platinum seller... who fucking cares... just do it. Sad.

I do believe that whenever and whatever we get from Van Halen will undoubtedly be outstanding . Any band is capable of " shit " , however , I do believe that this lineup of Van Halen is way above and beyond that . Perhaps the need for " perfection " is the hold up , who knows ? Hopefully , they won't take up substantial album space with unnecessary covers like " Diver Down. "
