    And why not?

Long as there is a buck to be made, long as people are showing up, long as they can still do it, fuck it.

    Attendance isn't compulsory.

Yup. Not North Korea or at least not yet. You WILL go to the KISS show or there will be grave circumstances in store for you!

The thing is you always want to quit when you are still considered good. You don’t want to stay and turn KISS into PISS.

Which they might be a bit late for, mostly due to Stanley's declining voice.

I mean, honestly, the show I saw last year...yeah, ideally Criss and Frehley I would have liked to have seen onstage. The reality is that Criss can't physically get through a full set and Frehley isn't in great physical shape, either. Thayer and Singer performed ably.

    Stanley's voice was pretty shot.

I dunno if their market value is declining, but the venue they were playing in, the price for tickets is usually double what KISS were charging. The concert was fairly well-attended, but far from packed to the rafters.

Kiss to Release Rare 1984 Mark St. John Show as Next Live Album

"Kiss is set to release the only known soundboard recording from their brief time with guitarist
Mark St. John. Kiss – Off The Soundboard: Poughkeepsie, New York, 1984, the fifth entry in the
    band's career-spanning live-album series, will arrive on April 7."

"According to Kiss Concert History Online, St. John played part of the band's Nov. 27, 1984, show
in Baltimore, and then the entire Nov. 28 Poughkeepsie and Nov. 29 Binghamton shows before being
dismissed from the group. Bruce Kulick, who had been filling in for St. John since the tour began
in September, was hired as the band's fourth lead guitarist and remained in that position for
    more than a decade."

I'd have perhaps been more interested if it was a show that had been filmed...maybe I'll give it a listen when it comes out.

Who has done more farewell tours now? The Two Guys who used to be Kiss, or the Two Guys that used to be The Who?

Well, technically, The Who only did one tour which was specifically stated as being such by the band...I think. I could be wrong.

KISS have had...what, two or three farewell tours now in the last 20 years?

The KISS show I saw in the fall of 2021 and the venue I saw it at, KISS was charging about half of what other name acts usually do re: ticket price. The venue is an ampitheater with a combination of venue chair seating and lawn seating. Attendance was good, but I've seen that place quite a bit fuller for other concerts. And this was ostensibly the resumption of the farewell tour begun in 2020 that was cancelled due to covid. So, I'm not sure KISS undertaking a farewell tour or announcing a 'final date' is going to mean much to anybody: you can only cry "we're retiring" so many times, one would think.

I will give Pete Townsend points for honesty. He said he hates performing live but he’s got a $200,000 a year boat hobby to support.

I think some these guys just can’t give it up because they love doing it. One of my college roommates grew up just down the street from Rick Nielsen. He’s good friends with Rick’s oldest son Erron. Erron says his dad would have to be incapacitated or dead to stop him from performing because he loves it so much.

Which, if I'm not being hypercritical about it all, why not? If these geezers can make a buck off it and still want to do it, why not keep doing it? It's not compulsory that people attend these shows, and certainly with the proliferation of audience-shot footage available for free viewing over the last twenty years it isn't as if potential ticket buyers can't due their due diligence beforehand re: is it a band still worth paying to see.

"Why did you choose Shout It Out Loud?"

Real answer is it's one that they can still play live.

Seriously I think that was a decent performance if you like KISS and it's maybe the first time I've heard them play live in decades if ever.

It's a shame they don't have the guts to try and play their whole set live or retire.

You can tell what parts were tracks vs Stanley's live singing voice especially on Detroit Rock City on the Stern show. Watch back to any of the other performances of DRC and the tracked vocals all sound the same.

    I mean what hypocrites.

Yeah, but even back in the 70's heyday when they were actually playing live, KISS even more than most rock bands was about making a buck...to the point where the music (much of which I enjoyed) was secondary to the spectacle and the image of it all. In that context, for a band like KISS to now be miming to piped in vocals...hardly a shock, lame as it is.

Dave probably dances to Sinatra’s I’ve Got You Under My Skin every time Sam has a triggered by Dave moment which seems to be a lot. Sorry Sam. Van Hagar was never as big as the original lineup. Your run in the band has been forgotten already. Nobody wants to hear Dreams.

Sam puts Gene Simmons to shame. That motherfucker is always banging on the window trying to sell you something. Someone needs to unload two barrels of rock salt in his ass.

He mentions Gene being a solid bass player and his early album work being an example of how he could be a good bassist. But didn't they often have other guys record their album parts? Paul and Gene at least?

Simmons is totally full of shit.

Either is a false memory or Geddy was just being polite.

Recalling the time he offered a few bass tips to Lee, he explains: "I'll tell you a telling story. KISS took out Rush on their first tour. They came out to support us, you know, because we liked what they did. And this was in the, in their Working Man period, when they sounded kind of like a Canadian Zeppelin, which I still prefer, sound-wise, but obviously, they've done very well, and we used to hang out with the guys and joke around everything.

"One night back at the hotel or backstage someplace, Geddy [Lee] and I were sitting down, trading licks, and I said, 'Do you want to do a blues scale? You go first, and then I'll continue the chord pattern,' and he said, 'I don't know what you mean.' At least from what I recall, Geddy didn't understand what a blues scale was or what '1,4,5' meant. That also bears noting that when you go '1,4,5' to a musician, that means something, it's a relationship of notes or chords," he continues.

"So I go, 'Well, okay then, you hit a G, either octave or low,' and he said, 'Which one is that?' Geddy played purely by ear. Now of course later on, he learned what the notes were and stuff like that".

He also said that the Edge didn't know how to play chords in the beginning which is also bullshit Whatever you say about the Edge is he played chords for BB King. Gene Simmons never even smelled BB's asscrack!

I'm not sure about how often Gene and Paul had others playing their guitar and bass parts on the albums. I'm thinking perhaps on the Ace tracks on Dynasty and Unmasked, where maybe Ace did all the guitars and bass.

Bob Kulick did a lot of session work for Kiss.

There's a site (not wiki) that lists who played what on the albums but I can't think of the site name.

Wikipedia says Ace played bass on three songs on each of those records. And also three songs on "The Elder". The next record after that (Creatures of the Night) Ace didn't play bass OR guitar at all, but replacement drummer Eric Carr played bass on one track & there were session guys playing bass on two other songs.

I didn't look beyond that, but I seem to remember reading somewhere that Chaim was barely in the studio at all on some of those 80s alleged "Kiss" albums.
