    Unholy Love
I Love It Loud: The Gene Simmons Rock Show

The KISS co founder and legendary rock star returns for a third series spinning his favourite rock music including tracks from Led Zeppelin, Faith No More, and AC/DC.

Since forming KISS in 1973, Gene Simmons has gone on to become one of the most successful rock musicians ever. KISS have sold more Gold records than any other act in American history. Aside from playing music he is a successful producer, having discovered Van Halen, as well as an entrepreneur and reality TV star, appearing in two shows - Family Jewels for US TV and School of Rock for Channel 4.
I wonder if Gene puts that bit about VH in his official bio or the BBC added it. Saying that he discovered them is like anyone who attended a show with them in those years before they were signed discovered them. His production of them was not successful musically or any other way.

To his credit, Simmons did attend one of their shows and was impressed enough with what he heard to fly the band out to New York City, make a demo with them and get what they did played for Bill Aucoin/Casablanca records. Whatever else Simmons has said, or whatever his motivations were in terms of getting Eddie and Alex to join KISS, [Simmons] did do those things for the group...along with advising them to change their name to Daddy Longlegs(?). After the Casablanca thing didn't happen, Simmons also claimed he released the band from whatever obligations he and the band had entered into (I can't remember off the top of my head right now if they actually HAD signed a contract with Simmons in terms of him managing them or not).

However, it wasn't like Simmons contacted Warner Brothers, or Warner Brothers had heard about Van Halen because there was some massive buzz about them due to their encounter with Simmons. As far as I can determine, there was no linkage between what Simmons did with the band and Warner Brothers taking an interest in the group. Therefore, Simmons didn't "discover" Van Halen: had Warner Brothers not found out about the band, Van Halen may well have ended up being the greatest rock band we never heard of.

    What a marathon thread!

We had to change drummers in my (rock) band, and we finally hired a very good one who is a Kiss fan... He got every Kiss member's face tattooed.

GENE SIMMONS Announces 'The Vault' Box Set
    Of Previously Unreleased Solo Recordings

"'The Vault' is one hundred and fifty-plus never-before-released songs I've written,
spanning fifty years, going all the way back to when I was fourteen years old, all
the way to some of the songs that became KISS classics. Tens CDs right here, all
inside 'The Vault'. It's finally ready to bring to you. Yeah, that's right, I said 'to bring
to you,' because what I'm gonna be doing is something that's never been done
before by any artist or band. I'm gonna hand-deliver 'The Vault' box set to you and
to fans like you around the world."

Simmons adds: "I also wanted you to have really cool stuff: an exclusive Gene
Simmons action figure, an 'In Gene We Trust' medallion, a beautiful full-color book
packed with photos from my personal archives, and my stories behind the songs —
and a very special surprise item from me to you. You're not gonna believe the
    things we found."

And the price list according to UCR:

For $2,000, you can attend one of 21 “Vault Experience” events across the
world. In addition to the personalized and autographed box set — which is
    “packaged in a massive 12” x 12” x 6” leather-bound commemorative book
featuring dozens of never-seen-before images of Simmons over his 50-year
career” — fans will be treated to a “songs and stories” playback and Q&A
session, and granted one-on-one photo, autograph and video time with
    Simmons.

For $25,000, you can attend one of 11 “Producer Experience” events, which
include everything above plus “an intimate hour in a recording studio with
Gene listening to tracks from The Vault” and an executive producer’s credit
    on the set itself.

Finally, for $50,000, Simmons will deliver all those goodies right to your
home, where you and up to 25 friends can spend two hours with the “God
    of Thunder.”

I think, if memory serves me correctly, the other tune on Love Gun Ed and Al demoed was Got Love For Sale. I think Ed and Al may have also worked with Gene demoing tunes for his 1978 solo album, specifically the tunes True Confessions and Tunnel Of Love: I could SWEAR I read that somewhere.

For some odd reason, I think if nothing else Ace and Gene playing together would be useful for just getting them talking as reasonable, grown up people. Personally, I don't care if Ace reunites with KISS or not. I just thought it was a bit of a shame, like, say, when the band was inducted in the RnRHoF...and Gene and Paul got into a tiff with Ace and Peter over performing or not performing. The same thing applied to Blackmore when Deep Purple was inducted, and on and on.

Like, I dunno why I am even bothered enough to post something about it. I don't know these guys and they don't know me. I think it's just the older I get, the lamer these celebrity feuds are. Same with Van Halen re: KISS/Deep Purple, in that these guys are in their 60s. Just put aside the childish bullshit. Regardless of any of them getting back together or not.

I think the problem is these people get money and fame at an early age, and it just arrests their emotional development.

So, frankly, I think it's cool if Ace plays some tunes with Gene onstage, or they sit around and jam, even removing the "Maybe Ace will rejoin KISS!" underlying rumors whenever something like that happens. Because, really, who gives a shit in 2017 if Ace Frehley rejoins KISS full-time again? Ace doing so won't make KISS any more lucrative than they already are now. It's not 1995.

Kiss frontman Gene Simmons—until this week, a favorite guest on Fox News and Fox Business Network programs, which couldn’t get enough of his supposedly outrageous rock-star antics mixed with conservative politics—has been banned for life from the right-leaning cable channels.

Fox finally had enough of Simmons after he crudely insulted female Fox staffers, taunted them and exposed his chest, and otherwise behaved like the “demon” character he plays onstage. Management was not amused, and Simmons’s photograph was promptly posted Wednesday at the security entrance of the company’s Manhattan headquarters along with a “do-not-admit” advisory.

Gene Simmons has explained why Kiss decided not to sue Bruce Springsteen
over his 2009 track “Outlaw Pete,” which bears some resemblance to their
1979 hit “I Was Made For Lovin’ You.”

“Kiss have sued lots of people and won,” Simmons told The Guardian. “But
some people we don’t sue. We didn’t sue Bruce Springsteen for ‘Outlaw Pete.’
How do we decide who to sue and who not to? We like Springsteen. We don’t
    sue.”

Gene Simmons Latest Business Venture Will Raise Some Eyebrows

    March 16, 2018

Gene Simmons has been very open about his drug-free lifestyle and his disdain for other musicians who have lost battles with drug addiction. With that in mind, his latest business venture might find people calling out “hypocrite” or even “Pusherman.”

Simmons has signed on as “Chief Evangelist Officer” for Invictus MD Strategies Corp., a Canadian company that, per their website, “represents a powerful platform of licensed cannabis producers across Canada” that “are committed to providing patients and adult users with high-quality medical-grade marijuana.”

Recreational marijuana use is expected to be legalized this summer in Canada, and companies like Invictus are expected to gain massive revenue. Invictus Chairman and CEO Dan Kriznic said in a press release, "Gene will lead marketing initiatives that will help spread the positive messages that dwell at the heart of Invictus in accordance with the strict regulations of Health Canada's Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (ACMPR), the Food and Drugs Act (FDA) and the Narcotic Control Regulations (NCR.)"

Despite the fact Simmons will be taking part in legal pot business, his involvement alone is questionable, at best, considering everything he has said about drugs in the past.

However, and let’s be honest, The Demon has never met a dollar he didn’t like, and he likely stands to net a significant payday from all of this.

If it makes money, Gene will do it. Gene will just say the demon character is bigger than him and KISS is bigger than any of it's members and they will have other people in the makeup playing songs on stage. They are halfway there already. As long as they can sell it, KISS will do it.

Maybe it actually is, as some outlets have - without much irony- put it, the final End Of The Road tour.

Stanley's voice hasn't been what it was for several years now, and that situation is beyond the point of being glossed over: more and more, the band can't perform certain signature tunes that featured Stanley on lead vocals, because the man just can't sing them well enough anymore to even reach the realm of passable. Eric Singer is 60 years old. Tommy Thayer is 57. Simmons is crowding 70. Stanley is over 60. How much longer do they want to do this?

Nitro's point is well taken in that it isn't beyond Simmons to get four nobodies out there in KISS makeup performing the tunes, franchising the brand. Why not? Simmons has never pretended that the money-making aspect of the band, along with the theatrics, wasn't as important as the music. If people want to pay to see it, fine.

The End Of The Road, even if it does live up to the billing, isn't something I want to see. Certainly nothing I'm going to see based on the premise that this might be the last tour. Too many bands have pulled that bullshit for me to even care anymore, and there's nobody out there anymore working that could entice me to see them with that sales pitch. Mostly because out of who is left in terms of aging arena rock acts, I've either already seen them, haven't cared enough to see them or they can't bring it to the stage well enough anymore anyway.

Aerosmith will doubtless be pulling this "last tour...but we're still going to perform one-offs here and there and still release new music now and then" nonsense that Ozzy did this past year. Well, are you going away or aren't you? Sounds more like announcing semi-retirement to me.

KISS, or at least the memory of 1970s/early 1980s KISS, is still a somewhat meaningful thing to me. I really liked that band. Probably no small part of that had to do with literally growing up in the 1970s. Yeah, I was one of those elementary school age kids in the 1970s that turned the band into bubblegum safe stuff when the Seventies were drawing to a close. I still have a memory of watching KISS Meets The Phantom Of The Park when it was originally broadcast on tv. I remember feeling shocked when Peter Criss left the band.

I recall not being overly thrilled with their output post-Creatures, and also recall thinking Revenge was a welcome return to form although by the time it was released I didn't give too much of shit. The band did launch a successful reunion in 1996. Kiss did it right far as that initial reunion tour went. Got the original band together, rehearsed properly. Didn't make any pretenses about doing anything other than serving up all those 1970s tunes in full makeup with all the stage theatrics. By the time Frehley and Criss left the band in the early 2000s, it already felt to me like Klassic Kiss Mach 2 was dragging on a bit too long. In typical KISS fashion, the band took a great idea and repeatedly ran it into the ground to the point where it didn't mean much of anything to me.

I saw them three times. 88...98...2014...maybe I take my six year old daughter as I took the older one last time. I guess they do something with Ace and/or Peter. I guess, I go...one last time.

I wouldn't ever consider seeing anything that didn't include at least Ace. Even then, the guys mimicking the original (catman on drums) makeup would be nonsense...
