Saw them in 1990 or so on the Hot In the Shade tour - now that was a pretty lame tour. Faster Pussycat and Slaughter opened. I've never seen so many empty seats - felt kind of embarrassed for KISS. In their heyday they were selling out nightly. The old Vets Auditorium in Des Moines used to seat 15,000. That show had 5,000 people, tops, and that's being generous. Just six years later Ace and Peter were back and they were selling out nightly again. Now THAT was a great show ('96 reunion)! Seriously considering going to see this show with Motley - they're on my bucket 'o blood list.

Well, tomorrow night it seems the country audience will be subjected to "KISS"
....they're appearing on the Academy of Country Music awards on CBS.

Are they going to bring Garth Brooks out to sing Hard Luck Woman, or will they try that country version of God of Thunder that they played at MTV Unplugged?

That reminds me of a particular show I went to, January 1, 1984 at the Tallahassee - Leon County Civic Center. It was written in the book "KISS Alive Forever" that this may be the most lightly attended KISS show in their history as a headlining band. The weather was terrible and some estimate that there were little more than 2,000 people in attendance.

Personally, I liked KISS without makeup better and I think that Bruce Kulick was far and away the best guitarist the band ever had.

Only time I ever saw 'em was in 1985. They were playing in a 15,000-odd seat arena and less than half the seats were sold. Black N' Blue opened up. I kinda felt embarrassed for 'em, too, although they put on such an abysmal show that after awhile it seemed only fitting they were playing to a half-full arena.

Probably one of my regrets far as concerts went was not ponying up and seeing the band once in the years 1996-2000. I fucking DUG Kiss when I was a kid in the 1970s, and I will say from the video I've seen of those years the band really got it right in terms of what a successful reunion tour SHOULD be.

Can't be bothered seeing scab Kiss now, though. Without Ace and Peter, the band doesn't hold as much interest for me. While Kulick was one of the better technical guitar players the band ever had, far as definitive KISS guitar solos go Ace Frehley was the beginning and end of story in my book.

I'll bet there's quite alot the KISS Army want to keep private right about now...like the fact that their favorite band went on some idiotic TV show last night and managed to make the Village People look like fuckin' Motorhead.

When Gene said he didn't give a fuck about dignity, he really wasn't kidding around.....

Here's a link to another site that has the video if you want to see it.

    http://www.aceshowbiz.com/news/view/00049527.html

I'm glad I got to see them during the reunion tour with Peter and Ace. And weren't they both on the "Farewell" tour too?

I think that was the 'Goodbye tour'.

Or was it the 'See Ya tour?'

    Or 'Definitely the last tour'?

Or was it the 'Look who's back tour...'

I should have remembered that both Peter and Ace were on that tour - the ex was 5 months pregnant with my daughter and she went with me to the show. That woman could ruin anything, including a Kiss show.

    You should go.

Hey no matter what anyone here says about kiss, they put on an unmatched show for sure.
They are loud as fuck and sound phenomenal , I've never heard them sound bad. You can feel the heat from the flames 40 rows back and that ain't no shit.
They are so fucking loud that your ears will ring for days and the pounding in your chest will scare you
I have seen kiss at least 15 times and am a card carrying member of the kiss army, proud of it too.

I will admit that gene is a fucking douchebag and Paul is no doubt a queer but those fuckers will rock your balls off no matter who you've seen before.
The only time I've ever been disappointed by kiss was seeing them live without makeup.

And the chicks at kiss concerts are fucking nuts.

Get the best seats you can and hold on

At the end of the day KISS are rock and roll legends. Look at how much they were copied. They pioneered the big stage, the pyrotechnics, the smoke, and the merchandising and shamelessly sold it. Don't we wish Van Halen shamelessly sold it to us? The biggest complaint I heard from VH fans was "I want more!"

Kiss was my first band of interest. I dug them from age 7 to however old I was when that disappointing Unmasked came out. Saw them in '96 and that gave me the closure I needed for being too young to see them in the late seventies. Seeing them continue with pretenders in Ace and Peter's make up, the Dr. Pepper commercials, Dancing with the (wish they were) Stars....just nauseating. I feel way more sorry for the die hard KISS fans than the CVH purists. Present day KISS really smacks their origin in the face.

I'd had Ace's book for at least six months, but just started reading it last night....

Skipped all of the childhood/teenage stuff....

Went right to the part where he auditioned for KISS, and started playing their first few gigs....

And I'll get Peter's book when that comes out as well....

I always thought Kiss' demos always sounded heavier than what came out on record. Ace has always been my favorite member of the band....I have tried to swear off Kiss from time to time over the years....but I can't help it....still enjoy em. Gene got his marketing mits on me when I was a young buck. I can remember having Kiss cards, an Ace frehley doll, and Kiss: dressed to kill at around age 6. Thanks mom....drove my pops crazy...he wanted me to listen to Zeppelin...which I eventually, thankfully did.

New "artwork" for the album is out. This is fucking horrible. They can't do better than this? Plus, doesn't the lettering on the word Monster look an awful lot like the energy drink logo? And maybe I'm wrong but isn't Monster energy drinks a sponsor of the latest tour??? I wouldn't put it past Gene to tie in sponsorship to naming an album.

I'm hoping not to be as disappointed by the music as I am by the cover...

Golly, that is epically craptacular. It looks like somebody hung a cardboard and aluminum foil KISS logo in the lobby of a law office, had the band stand in front of it, snapped a picture, then had some kid Photoshop the label from a can of energy drink to the bottom of it. A better working title would be "Uninspired."

You've gotta give them credit though, nearly 40 years after their 1st album, they can still sell thousands of tickets to essentially the same stage show and basically the same setlist....

    Thanks.

LOL, I just noticed I cut off the top two shelves, with the "Creatures" figures and the Johnny Lightning diecast funny cars.

You should see my stack of books, tour programs, magazines and other crap.

I think that proves how good Alive! was...........that and the fact that it was on the charts over two years and sold 9 million copies.
