Damned if I know what's stopping them. Now would probably be the best time of the year to put pressure on them though, because both companies go into sugar recipie production mode for the Passover edition anyway. Might be the best time to just convert everything back to sugar permanently.

Then the next battle would be to drop the useless plastic bottles. Call it a "green" issue, and its another moneymaker for them.
I still can't fathom how the corn lobby can influence 2 private industry giants like Pepsico and Coke to the point of changing it's own recipe into one that is less popular....unless I'm just off the mark.

The switch to HFCS was done with no fanfare or warning....it seems like it just happened one day, and that's it. Not many people are even aware of the difference.....they think it's merely a label change to celebrate the 60 years of Pepsi, and nothing else. Fuck it, man...I'm not gonna get into the HFCS debate with them-more throwback for ME!!

That garbage is in every drink there is now, including Gatorade. The so-called "energy drinks" are saturated with it. I never touch that shit. Ever.

Mmmmmm......so much better without the Orville Redenbaker / Aunt Jemima solution.

I picked up a Pepsi Throwback in Dunkin Donuts this morning.
I'll probably grab a Mountain Dew for the ride home.

If you still can't find the Dr. Pepper in your local grocery store, try Target. Just picked some up there. And it was worth the wait.

I like the Throwback Mountain Dew better than the current version. Haven't tried the Pepsi or Dr. Pepper yet.

    Thumbs up

Here's a heads-up: The Walgreen's in my area has Pepsi products on sale. Through a coupon deal, you get five 12-packs, and four 2 liter bottles for $10. Now this isn't supposed to include throwback products, but the supply overall was limited and the clerk rang up all of them at the sale price. Remember, these sales vary by location, so check your local retailer for prices.

Here is the Walgreen's site: Welcome to Walgreens - Your Home for Prescriptions, Photos and Health Information

Yeah, I could take or leave the Pepsi, as it doesn't seem to have any zip to it. The Mountain Dew on the other hand, is outstanding. It reminds me of something that happened back in the late 1980s.

I had planned a vacation that would be a road trip from here is S. Fla to Charleston S.C. I would be visiting some friends for a few days that had relocated there, but first I'd stop in Orlando to visit my aunt and uncle and play some golf. The food at the turnpike rest stops was pretty crummy back then, and usually overpriced (this hasn't changed, 22 years later). So I packed a cooler with a few Cokes and some sandwiches, and took off.

Once at my relatives' home, I put the contents of the cooler in their refrigerator. The next morning, my uncle grabbed a Coke, took one swig and promptly spit it out. He gasped at me with a bewildered look on his face, and said there was something terribly wrong with it. Seeing this was one of the sodas I'd brought, I took a drink and announced it was normal to me. He then produced one of the sodas from the back of the fridge (he too had bought some Cokes locally anticipating my visit) and handed it to me. The difference was like night and day. His tasted sweet and refreshing, while mine was foamy and harsh tasting. I figured it must be the water used by the bottler down our way.

So I get to Charleston, and more or less the same thing happened. I bought a Mountain Dew and was blown away by how sweet it tasted. I even went to a supermarket and purchased several cases to bring back to Florida with me. And this Throwback Dew tastes much like that stuff I bought in S.C. It's a terrific find, and it's a shame it will only be available for a short time.

In a related note, the water in FL is the worst anywhere. It's terrible. I was in Denver the other week, and the tap water was so freezing cold and refreshing, it was a treat to splash water on your face. I get why the temp was so different, but that stuff tasted great! I didn't need to buy bottled water at all, just drink the tap water. Freezing cold and delicious.

Wonderful place. Don't get me started on their beer... or the flood of Cali hippies setting up shop due to the dispenseries. I got a line on a big hashpile while I was there for only 3 days. More hookups than the 5 years I've lived in FL.

I bought a case of both the other day, seems like here in NC there is a vacuum were good shit doesn't seem to get through as fast as the rest of the world. Well sufficed to say I love them both, the MD and Pepsi. I am not very nostalgic, but they do take me back to the 70's and I hope that they keep it going for a while so I can stock up

Water makes all the difference, no matter what beverage you're making. Beer, wine, or Coca cola. The Olympia Brewery used "It's the water" as a marketing slogan for years, and they were serious about it. Came from artesian wells that naturally exist in this area. The Fish Brewing company (which makes even better beer) uses the same artesian wells.

My dad used to make his own wine, and even though he had a well at his house, so the water never had chlorine or any other man made additives in it, it just didn't measure up to the water that came from the artesian wells. So he would actually go downtown to the artesian well and fill up all these huge glass bottles - the same kind that office water coolers used before they went to plastic - because the difference in the final product was worth the trip and the manual labor involved.

Of course Mexican Coke IS made in Mexico, so I'm not sure how that gets so good with the water supposedly being so bad there

You are not exaggerating. For a short while I lived in a city outside of Fort Lauderdale that had water so caustic that by merely showering in it created skin ailments, as it literally tore the skin off of your back. Since as I was renting at the time, I didn't see the logic in purchasing a water filtration system for a one bedroom apartment in order to remain healthy (the tap water had a horrible sepia tinge to it as well). I simply moved at the next available opportunity.

Well it seems like the Dr. Pepper is getting wider distribution at the moment, but the Pepsi and Mt Dew may be done for this run. I think I got the last 12 pack of Mt Dew in town.

Also I picked up some Thomas Kemper stuff the other day. This isn't the usual Thomas Kemper soda, it's called "pure natural" something or other. It tastes even better than the usual TK brands, as it's not as sweet and has some tartness to it. Also it's in clear glass longneck bottles as opposed to "stubby" brown bottles. Oddly enough there is nothing about it on the Thomas Kemper website, so I don't know how wide the release is, but if you can find them, pick them up.

So far I've found it in 4 flavors - Root Beer, Ginger Ale, Black Cherry, and Blood Orange/Pomegranate. Don't know if there are any others.

it came back on..and then back off the market.

it pisses me off that they don't just make the mountain dew one permanent. Usually while I enjoy mountain dew it feels like I'm weighed down after enjoying it. With the Sugar Cane version I don't feel as much.

Mind you, I've mainly switched to diet almost full time now, as I've just recently learned of a history of diabetes in my family (and no, we're not fatasses, just have really fucked up genes in that department), but still. I would like to see that brought back as a permanent thing.

I know that Dr. Pepper came back again this summer, though the label was different from the previous "Heritage" release. Here's the current design....

I don't think Pepsico has Pepsi or Mt. Dew out at the moment, but they did release a sugar version of Sierra Mist, which is their 7-up/Sprite ripoff they came up with when the government wouldn't let them buy 7-up.

Sadly, this stuff just doesn't cut it for me. It's more or less carbonated sugar water without all that much flavoring. I never tried the corn poisoned version of this stuff, but it must have been horrible if the sugar version is this bad. Hopefully 7-Up will take the hint and release their own sugar version, which will no doubt be great. And since Dr. Pepper & 7-Up are the same company, it's really ridiculous that they haven't done so already.

I've been drinking Coke Zero which has splenda in it..though it still has the diet after-taste to it.

    Brethren and Sistren,

I just stumbled upon this thread tonight... down with the genetic engineered high fructose corn syrup complex!!!! I was at Vons tonight here in Laguna (Orange County, CA) and they have cases of the Pepsi and Mt Dew Throwbacks with real sugar. I'm a Coke drinker myself, but I bought a few cases of the Pepsi.... just like being a kid again, pure sugar... I had three cans of the stuff tonight and I'm wired!!!

I didn't read this entire thread, but wasn't it right about the time of the New Coke change and the taste tests between Coke and Pepsi in the 80s that sugar prices were riding at all time highs and the govt was subsidizing the hell out of corn so much that a surplus built up and new markets/uses were needed (hence HFCS and ethanol) -- that's one of the conspiracy theories about New Coke, bait and switch... I always thought "Classic Coke" tasted different when they brought it back, mainly because Coke turned to cheap ass HFCS instead of cane sugar. All I know is corn should be banned except for popcorn in theaters... although when I was attending Notre Dame I had some of the best steaks, potatoes, corn ever in the Midwest (Manny's in Minneapolis HUGE portions AMAZING steaks... but I digress)...

    Long live SUGAR!!!!!

    That is all.

It's good to see people aren't falling for the high fructose corn syrup bullshit.

Well, never let it be said that you can't get any useful information from Celebrity Apprentice.....

It was revealed on that dumb show tonight that "7-UP Retro" will be released soon, with real sugar, of course.

About damn time, considering they have been falsely advertising it as "all natural" for years now, and corn poison is NOT natural by any stretch of the imagination.

Last time I had a real 7 UP it was smuggled in from China, of all places. Tasted great though, so I'll be buying this shit when it comes out. The Sierra Mist just ain't cutting it......

Agree the Sierra Piss leaves alot to be desired...

The good news is..I have found an unlimited supply of throwbacks...from Florida to Ohio ever since March..still getting it today!

Also found stores stocking MexiCoke in glass bottles...probably my very favorite...it's just that you have to finish the whole bottle..can't screw the top back on, you know.

Not many people are even aware of the difference.....they think it's merely a label change to celebrate the 60 years of Pepsi, and nothing else. Fuck it, man...I'm not gonna get into the HFCS debate with them-more throwback for ME!!

Haven't seen the 7UP Retro in the stores yet, but WinCo Foods is now carrying MexiSprite in the glass bottles. Fanta Orange with real sugar as well, and of course the MexiCoke. They don't sell it by the case unfortunately, only by the single bottle, but at 88 cents a bottle, that's half the price that my neighborhood convenience store is selling the single MexiCokes for. But WinCo is way out on the northeast end of town so I wouldn't go out of my way, considering I don't drink the stuff every day anyhow. But if I'm driving that way anyway, might pick up a few bottles.

WinCo is only in the Pacific and Mountain time zones (so far) but if you live in one of those states, might want to check it out.

A store next to my dealer has the glass bottled coke with real sugar. That's the solution. That's what I drink now when I want a soft drink. I still have two 12 packs of the Dr Pepper throwback from earlier in this thread. It's actually not that good. Mexicoke is the standard.

local chain (OK, they're out of Pittsburgh) carries the Mexican Coke in the "ethnic" aisle...for a buck a bottle. not much of a price break at Sam's Club, it's $18.88 for 24 bottles.

Haven't seen that around here yet. Looks like every QFC in the state carries it, EXCEPT for the one here locally. That fucking figures. Sounds like a great product though, so I'll probably hassle the manager about it next time I visit that store.

Holy shit, it looks like the 7Up company is doing this right.......

Yes, those are honest to God GLASS fucking bottles.

Oh yeah, it does come in cans too......

Really don't see how the "zebra" striped can has anything to do with the classic 7Up formula, but then it was designed by a country singer and a rapper working for Donald Trump, so go figure...... Supposedly, this stuff should be in the stores now (though I haven't seen it yet)
