    Trip Down Memory Lane..

Surfing and came across this getting info about when they played the Spectrum in Philly that will be imploded at the end of the year.
The video for Panama was filmed there also.

    Start date 19 March 1980
    End date 15 November 1980
The World Invasion Tour was a concert tour by hard rock band Van Halen to support their third album "Women and Children First". It was dubbed the "Party 'til You Die Tour" by the band. The tour is notable for being the first time the band played keyboards live during their shows, as Michael Anthony would play the keyboard parts of And the Cradle Will Rock. 5 Legs, 107 Shows

    Start date 12 May 1981
    End date 25 October 1981
    4 Legs, 82 Shows
The Fair Warning Tour was a North American concert tour by hard rock band Van Halen in support of their Fair Warning album. Ultimately, despite the success of the tour the album's harsh tone meant it only received an RIAA certification of 2x Platinum. Out of the 82 shows, 79 of them were sold out making this one of the most successful Van Halen tours.

The last two shows in Orlando saw the band opening for the The Rolling Stones. This would be the last time the band performed as a support act until the Balance Tour.

    Start date 14 July 1982
    End date 29 May 1983
    4 Legs, 105 Shows, 1 canceled
The Hide Your Sheep Tour was a concert tour by hard rock band Van Halen. It was a promotional tour, supporting their Diver Down album. It featured among other things, their first South American dates, and for the first time the band no longer supported other acts. The tour saw the band at the peak of their active touring.

    Start date January 18, 1984
    End date July 16, 1984
    4 Legs, 103 Shows
The 1984 tour was a North American concert tour by hard rock band Van Halen in support of their album 1984. The tour was very successful but tension between the Van Halen brothers and Roth was so high that each member of the band performed on a separate stage and left one at a time after the show. After the tour, the band continued to promote the album on their Monsters of Rock Tour 1984 (a short European festival tour to compensate for the main 1984 Tour being North American only), and then David Lee Roth left Van Halen. He would not perform live with them until the forthcoming 2007 reunion tour. The tour was one of the band's longer ones, but was divided into four separate legs.

    Start date 18 August 1984
    End date 2 September 1984
    1 Leg, 5 Shows
The Monsters of Rock Tour 1984 was a festival tour of Europe in 1984. The lineup for the then-annual Monsters of Rock festival in Donnington, England took the festival out on tour. For a short portion of the tour, hard rock band Van Halen played on the bill as the brief European leg of their 1984 Tour supporting the album of the same name. It was the second portion of the tour after a large North American one and featured the final performances by David Lee Roth with the band until he rejoined in 2007 and raised tensions may explain why they left the bill before the tour's end.

    Start date 27 March 1986
    End date 3 November 1986
    3 Legs, 112 Shows
This was the band's first concert with Sammy Hagar on lead vocals (and second electric guitar), following the acrimonious departure of original singer David Lee Roth. It was also a tour to promote the band's first album with Hagar, 5150.

Like many Van Halen tours, the routing only took the band across North America, as travelling internationally was hard for the band's complicated and heavy stage set. Furthermore, Hagar wanted to establish himself as the band's new singer in their homeland. The first leg of the tour was entirely USA dates, though a few Canadian ones slipped into the second and third legs.

The 1986 Tour took place in the context of the great David Lee Roth-Van Halen split, with former Van Halen fan base being split as well. Those who had gone onto the new Van Halen's side of the split used the concerts as an opportunity to voice their stance, frequently via unison chants of "Fuck Dave!" The tour set a trend later Hagar-era ones would follow: the number of pre-Hagar Van Halen songs was kept to a minimum, with Hagar only being willing to play that era's best-known songs. An Eddie/Sammy guitar duel was also a frequent part of the concerts. "Rock and Roll", by Led Zeppelin was the closing song every night.

The group's biggest hit, "Jump", was usually omitted from the set list, or sung by the audience instead of Hagar. To fill in the set list almost all the songs from the 5150 album were used, as well as covers and some of Sammy's pre-Van Halen work. This included solo work like his recent MTV hit "I Can't Drive 55" and Montrose songs. Indeed, the addition of Hagar's guitar gave Eddie Van Halen more room to move, or to play keyboards on certain songs.

The second concert at New Haven Coliseum was filmed and shown live on television and released on VHS with the title Van Halen - Live Without a Net; it has subsequently been released on DVD.

    For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge Tour
One of the most interesting things about this tour was the inclusion of the song "Jump" in the set-list. This song from 1984 had been the band's only US Hot 100 number 1, but in his attempt to 'forget' the band's past Sammy Hagar had refused to sing it at every show when he joined the band in 1985. Now an established member of the line-up, he agreed to sing it more often. This tour also marked the first time that keyboards were not performed live on stage by Eddie Van Halen. Keyboard and piano parts were either prerecorded by Eddie, or played off stage.

    Start date 11 June 2004
    End date 19 November 2004
    3 Legs, 80 Shows
The Van Halen Summer Tour 2004 was a North American concert tour by hard rock band Van Halen. It was the band's first tour since 1998, and saw the return of Sammy Hagar who left in 1996. Bassist Michael Anthony officially left Van Halen at this point, though nothing was announced until his replacement in 2006 by Wolfgang Van Halen.
In 2004, Van Halen reunited with Sammy Hagar, their vocalist from 1985-1996. They decided to release a new compilation double album featuring three new songs on it as their first move. This was followed by a reunion tour, featuring these new songs among others on the set list. The new songs were "It's About Time", "Up For Breakfast", and "Learning to See". Initially 28 dates were announced, but this was extended to 80 across 5 months - all of which were performed.

The tour included many controversies, and ultimately afterwards Hagar decided to leave Van Halen. Michael Anthony, long time bassist for the band (performing with them until 2000 when they went on hiatus, but still officially a member of the band in 2004) was hired as a touring musician but not a 'real' band member, being paid a reduced commission. Initially the Van Halen brothers didn't want him on the tour at all, but Hagar insisted. Hagar also accused Eddie Van Halen of drinking far too much on the tour, despite Eddie's denials.

The tour grossed almost $55 million, and Pollstar listed Van Halen in the top 10 grossing tours of 2004. However, Rolling Stone revealed that promoters did not actually profit from the tour, losing money. This was largely attributed to overpriced tickets of up to $250 slowing down ticket sales. Concerts were met with (usually) positive reviews from critics and fans, though some did notice Eddie's alcohol abuse. Wolfgang Van Halen, Eddie's young son, would join the band for rhythm guitar during the instrumental "316". In 2006 Wolfgang joined Van Halen properly, replacing Anthony on bass.

Throughout the tour, reports of Eddie's alcohol abuse cropped up in reviews. In the band's first Chicago show, Eddie tripped over his guitar cable multiple times. Eighteen times it actually became unplugged, and a guitar tech had to chase Eddie around the stage keeping things together. Eddie later stopped in the middle of a guitar solo, lying down and simply saying "I'm sorry folks, I done run outta gas". Eddie did however, recover and finish the solo. The other major event occurred on the final date of the tour, when Eddie finished the set by smashing his guitar and running off stage.

The tour was made up of three legs, with the first two being in the United States (with the exception of a single date in the first leg in Toronto), and the third was a mixture of American and Canadian dates. By playing a date in Puerto Rico, Van Halen became the first rock act to ever play at the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum, one week after the venue's inauguration.

The tour was extended repeatedly, leading to a "Summer" tour lasting until late November. This was not originally planned.

    Start date September 27, 2007
    End date July 3, 2008
4 Legs, 76 Shows, 25 postponed all rescheduled
Van Halen 2007-2008 Tour was a North American concert tour occurring in the fall of 2007 and winter and spring of 2008 for hard rock band Van Halen. It was Van Halen's first tour since 2004 (which itself was the band's only tour since 1998), and the first one with original singer David Lee Roth since he left the band in 1985. Roth was with the band from 1974-1985, when the band rose to prominence.

The tour was originally going to be a fifty date summer tour in 2007. When re-scheduled, it was announced as a twenty-five date tour in Winter 2007. Gradually, dates were added, bringing it up to forty dates. In November 2007, the band announced an extension of the tour into 2008, eventually adding thirty-four new dates to the tour, bringing the total up to seventy-four, ending in April[1]. Ultimately, the tour was then re-branded as the "Van Halen 2007-2008 North American Tour". A number of dates were postponed in early March, due to reported

A Van Halen tour with Roth was rumoured for months beforehand, and there had been discussions about a reunion with him for years (in part fueled by Roth's first public attempt at a reunion with Van Halen going wrong) but there had never been success before. Three times in 2000-2001, Roth entered the 5150 studio (Eddie Van Halen's personal recording studio) with the Van Halen brothers to jam.

The controversial angle to the tour is that Eddie Van Halen's son Wolfgang Van Halen is the band's new bassist, the first time any slot other than the vocalist one has changed since 1974. This has offended many fans because original bassist Michael Anthony was not asked to be a part of this reunion. Wolfgang is a mere 17 years old at present. However the tour has sold well, selling out several dates. Initially 25 dates across the USA/Canada were announced, but 50 more have been added due to this demand.

The tour started on September 27, 2007 and finished on July 3, 2008 with a total of 76 dates. The band's last tour, with Sammy Hagar in 2004 (against which this tour will be compared directly), was originally set to be 50 dates and was extended to 80. Though most shows were successful, at the Greensboro, NC concert a technical problem saw the keyboard backing-track played faster than expected during the song "Jump", leaving Eddie and Wolfgang playing considerably out of tune (by approximately 1.5 semitones). Despite this, the crowd reaction in Greensboro was positive.

Ky-Mani Marley, son of reggae artist Bob Marley, supported the band as the opening act for each show but the final two during the first three legs of the tour. R&B singer Ryan Shaw announced that, beginning on February 22, he would be the band's opening act for the remainder of the tour. Shaw began to tour with the band starting with the Las Vegas show on April 19.

The tour was officially named the "Van Halen Fall 2007 Tour" during early announcements, and indeed, the "Merry Christmas" message on the Van Halen website referred to the "2007 tour", with no new title yet given for the 2008 tour. The website merely stated "As Van Halen readies for a much needed holiday break, it's back on the road in 2008 to continue the tour". Extra dates have been added repeatedly, and all postponed dates were made up for at later stages too, with no information on if the "2007 tour" actually had a scheduled ending.

Ultimately, the tour grossed over $93 million, the band's most profitable to date.

I omitted the majority of the Hagar tours.

Don't take it personally, but it's true that you're simply rehashing things that have been discussed over and over here for the last 9 years...

Feel free to post what you want, but just remember that there's not much related to VH/DLR that hasn't been posted here at one time or another....

'Tis a trip down memory lane for me. I saw the 1984 tour at The Spectrum.

It was, bar none, the best concert I had ever seen.

At the time, I didn't know they were filming for the "Panama" video while in town. Imagine my surprise when I flipped on MTV some weeks later...

R.I.P. Spectrum....a great venue that will be missed.
