Maybe you can pick up a book on jealousy, since you're already at the library...
Suits me to see the mod wreck threads in his own forum for the titillation of his own ego..
Isn't that what you're doing, Supermod?
Back on topic, bitch. :tongue0011:
Do Squiers count as "off" brands? Grabbed a Strat at a $89 at GC about 8 years ago (before I built the two Strats I have now) to do a clean track, put an old Dimarzio HS-3 I had laying around in it - and aside from completely shitty tuners and hardware, the neck and body didn't suck entirely...did the job in a pinch.
Sold the thing about 4 months later...got the HS-3 back from the guy last year, ironically...
I would question that too, there are so many permutations of what exactly a Squier is.
Last year, I picked up two pre-CIJ Jap Squiers for under 100 each, supposedly they go for around 500 now.
Last month, I pick up a Korean Squier for 50, a vastly different quality guitar. The only thing good on it was the neck.
I don't know why but some Chinese and Indonesian Squiers have them half-shell covered tuners, with the shit chrome scab, while others in the same production run will have the sealed Schaller copy tuners.
Changing these tuners makes quite a difference, I think on a small preCBS style headstock the heavier tuner takes away some bass end more than it affects the larger CBS headstock which is why I prefer the CBS one.
Meh, they're a crapshoot at best. This one had the crappy open tuners. I stuck a Groove Tubes Brass Fat Finger on the headstock for the track, and it did well enough...
The Gotoh have always been my favorite tuner.
These chinese ones on the Squiers made by Ping cost less than $4 per set, but are selling for almost $40 at Guitar Center and I think they're a ripoff for doing that.
It's just like their cables, they got 1.70 into a 6meter guitar cord yet sell it for 16 bucks
They'd sell more replacement sets if they were just more fair about it. So many offbrand guitars, the first detraction you notice is the crap tuners.
I like and usually use Gotohs, but have purchased a couple of sets of Schaller locking tuners for my Strats without locking nuts since they've upped their gear ratio (presumably to match their main competitor, Gotoh) to 16:1
I have an old set of Schallers from the late 80s that are 12:1, and while like everything Schaller makes, they're built like tanks, they suck ass...
This beauty is me. The other beauty is a Burny LPC with a Dimarzio D100 in the bridge position and the stock Burny pups elsewhere. They actually sound great and this is one of the nicest Les Pauls I've had, or even played. It's fairly lightweight and packs a serious punch. The pic is from the show where I met kentuckyklira in Koln.
Another really nice one that I had was a Washburn WP-80, which was an early 80s LPC copy, black with EMGs.
It's a shame that families should be torn apart by something as simple as....wild dogs
I was jonesing for a butterscotch blonde tele, but didn't want to invest a lot of money in one as they are not my style, but I dug the way they looked. So I bought a squire affinity butterscotch blonde tele and put a dimarzio super distortion tele shaped pickup in the bridge and left the neck pickup alone. Got great James Brown funk out of the neck pickup, and rock the shit out of the bridge. Very comfortable guitar. Great neck. I'd recommend it in a heartbeat
Koln (Cologne) Germany. And I meant to say DP100.
My great grandmother's parents emigrated thru Koln 125 years ago.
