"You give me a waterboard, Dick Cheney and one hour, and I'll have him confess to the Sharon Tate murders."

So says Navy SEAL, professional wrestling entertainer, star of "Predator" and former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura in an interview with Larry King. Ventura claims that waterboarding is torture, based on the waterboarding he endured during SEAL training.

He also says some negative things about former President George W. Bush. Watch the entire clip at CNN (via The Awl).

“It’s drowning,” he said. “It gives you the complete sensation that you are drowning.” Ventura said he knows because he was subjected to waterboarding as part of his military training. “I’ll put it to you this way: You give me a waterboard, Dick Cheney and one hour, and I’ll have him confess to the Sharon Tate murders.”

He's right. Jesse does live full time in Mexico. Not sure if taxes factored into his reasoning. If I was wealthy & could retire, I'd love to do it in a small village in southern or central Baja on the Sea of Cortez (Gulf of CA) coast. Great warm weather, very slow pace of life, quiet, extremely friendly people, terrific fishing, ice cold beer, and Mexican Coca Cola in glass bottles.

Every time I go I see many retirees living down there, albeit usually in motorhomes/trailers on blocks with patios. From speaking with many, they keep PO boxes in the nearest US border city and still travel north once a month or so for various reasons.

One of the issues is that Mexico doesn't allow non-citizens to own land. The best you can hope for is a 99 year lease. And you can't get Mexican citizenship. So there's always the threat that any land you buy can be stripped from you at any time without any compensation. This happened recently just south of San Diego where people had "bought" retirement villas, then the govt came in, took the land & these people lost everything. It's a risky proposition, but if you can pull it off, worth every second.

Jesse is still a US Citizen and still has a very nice home in Minnesota. He has a beach house in Cabo San Lucas where he spends lots of time. He hasn't turned his back on America, he just spends a lot of time in Mexico surfing.
