I dig Steve Stevens, I picked up his recent solo album. It's pretty awesome. Nice array of stuff. Some Vai like stuff and a cover of Robin Trower

Cool ...No Harsh, but why/what..? is with the comparison..?
I feel he stands alone with his style -Unless- he is cutting into some Zepp or Trower etc.. I hear no, Page or anyone.
I don't play, so maybe the ear is sharper on you cat's you "see something" I can't.
I hear a individual that is his own sound, kind like others that are compared to others I guess, maybe I am confused..?
lol
Stevens is bad ass. Highly underrated, IMO.

Yeah and Idol was never the same without him. Stevens may not have been the greatest rock-riff writer (wow, try saying that out loud three times) but he did come up with some catchy introductory hooks and highly-driven feedback fills that more textured Idol's tunes than just being a loud, annoying supportive-type guitar player resorting to playing a note/solo in between every word Idol ever sung. 'Blue Highway' from Rebel Yell is a perfect example of how Stevens knew what to play and when. Even his bombastic intro for 'Rebel Yell' is sheer genius.

i still like Exposed, mainly because Steve did all the guitars and bass on it. saw 'em that year also, Steve looked bored playing Mick Mars' guitar parts.
i don't have any proof of this...but i have a feeling that when Vince left Motley WB told him that a condition to signing him was if he did the first record with Stevens. Atomic Playboys didn't really do that well, and i think WB balked at a second Stevens solo disc...this way they could get something out of both Vince and Stevens with little risk.
Blue Highway on the Whiplash Smile tour was excellent. whole show was.
saw Idol on the Charmed Life tour, with Mark Younger-Smith replacing Stevens and it wasn't the same. a decent show and disc, but just not right. skipped the Cyberpunk tour (mainly 'cause i thought the disc stunk) and have seen Idol/Stevens every time they've come though town since.

Stevens pulled off some Wes Montgomery style jazz runs on a tune on Whiplash Smile of which the name escapes me at the moment, but very impressive. I liked that CD a lot, and there were other cool tunes on the Rebel Yell CD too...
And speaking as a guitarist who plays covers "Rebel Yell" among them, I can tell ya, to play the intro to that tune as he does these days (simultaneously playing the keyboard and guitar part from the record) via claw-picking is nearly fucking impossible...it's weird and poly-rhythmic, and he makes it look easy!
I just cheat and make the bass player do the root notes...
Some damn fine playing there. Although looks wise I would swear he is CC Devilles much more talented evil twin.

Think third set. And your girlfriend's table has been sending shots up to the bandstand since the first. One of those kinda gigs....and she was a built-in bad influence...
Ironically, look what popped up on Ebay...

Definitely cool, but $15K cool?
At least therei s no mention of Stevens Ray Gun...lol.....
When did you guys see Vince Neil with Stevens? Did they ever headline or just open for Van Hagar?

I saw 'em headline at the Roxy. Stevens set the place on fire, it almost didn't matter that it was a Vince Neil show...
Saw him with Vince too back in the day.Stevens stole the show!
I can't even remember who the rhythm guitarist was...he may as well have not been there, for all intents and purposes.
Notice sound effects guy Michael Winslow trading "sounds" with Ed @ the 8:30 mark...
