I like Sammy Hagar. The self titled album on Capitol was great, songs like Red, Rock 'n' Roll Weekend...All Night Long is one of the best live albums of the 70s, too. Musical Chairs was OK, and I didn't like 9 On a 10 Scale, but both the Montrose albums kicked ass, and Street Machine and Danger Zone were great albums and full of rockin' tunes. I got the Guthy Renker DVDs of The Midnight Special because he played one of his songs on it at some point.

Best album ever though was Three Lock Box!

Not so much a case of hate as it is just have no use for what he does.

To me, he's always been an average talent. It was true before, during and after his stint with Van Halen. His vocal range is pretty limited and I don't particularly care for the way it sounds when he sings. His lyrics are music are generic enough to the point where pretty much anyone could have written them and his song topics are of the mundane variety.

Bland and inoffensive stuff for people who like their rock music soft and generalized. Little of distinction or note.

Three Lock Rock was kind of the bridge between Hagar's lighter stuff, like Nine On a Ten Scale, and his harder stuff, like I Never Said Goodbye. It's kind of the in-between factor, I like to call it his Rick Springfield/Aldo Nova stage.

Most of the songs sound like either Rick Springfield or Aldo Nova could have sang them. Check out the classics like Remote Love, In the Room, I Don't Need Love, Never Give Up. Admittedly harder than guys like Rick Springfield, but not as hard as guys like Bon Jovi. Kind of the perfect ground and Sammy really started finding his own niche in his sound which he was able to bring over to Van Halen and translate into radio success and lots of albums sold.
