AP Poll is in...the big one is Alabama moving ahead of Florida (although it doesn't really matter as they will ultimately play in the SEC title game) Iowa also is the big mover..

    1 Alabama (39) 7-0 1447
    2 Florida (20) 6-0 1434
    3 Texas 6-0 1365
    4 USC 5-1 1213
    5 Cincinnati 6-0 1163
    6 Boise State 6-0 1156
    7 Iowa 7-0 1092
    8 Miami (FL) 5-1 1056
    9 LSU 5-1 1014
    10 TCU 6-0 1001
    11 Georgia Tech 6-1 861
    12 Oregon 5-1 849
    13 Penn State 6-1 753
    14 Oklahoma State 5-1 690
    15 Virginia Tech 5-2 684
    16 Brigham Young 6-1 601
    17 Houston 5-1 478
    18 Ohio State 5-2 373
    19 Utah 5-1 350
    20 Pittsburgh 6-1 330
    21 Texas Tech 5-2 286
    22 West Virginia 5-1 205
    23 South Carolina 5-2 159
    24 Kansas 5-1 120
    25 Oklahoma 3-3 117

coaches poll is similar, but Florida is still ahead of Bama and Boise and TCU get more love

Florida lost. The Razorbacks were ass-raped on national TV by 2 cuntsecutive and very crucial penalties. They were probably afraid to tackle Demps on his way to the end zone in fear of drawing another penalty.

If nothing else, Arkansas has found some chinks in UF's armor,
leaving them exposed the rest of the season.

Someone is bound to finish them off, as long as the refs don't fuck them as well.

well, the SEC has suspended that crew now. same idiots who came up with those riduculous celebration penalties in the LSU/Georgia game

on that video, I'm not sure what they were getting at on that late first down. it looked like CBS drew the yellow line at the wrong place; that's not the official's fault. but those other calls were awful

okay, after a big weekend last week with great matchups and a bunch of ranked teams playing each other, we've got pretty much shit this weekend.

only matchup of ranked teams is out in the Mountain West with unbeaten TCU going to BYU. this has big impact for the little guys BCS berth. I think if TCU wins out, they will pass Boise because TCU actually plays a couple decent teams the rest of the way.

outside of that, the best games might be in the ACC where GT goes to Virginia (who is shockingly unbeaten in conf play after losing to William and Mary). also, Miami takes on Clemson in a big game affecting both divisions.

maybe we'll get an upset out of nowhere

we almost got our big shocker in Tuscaloosa, as an onside kick and a couple first downs had Tennessee a FG away from the huge upset. but they get their second one blocked on the day.

after having the first one blocked, I would have liked to see Tennessee run another play and throw downfield. they just settled for that FG once they got to the 25. Bama very lucky to survive.

I'm sorry, but if anyone is talking SEC title game rematch in the BCS game, they're smoking something. I haven't seen nearly enough from Bama and Florida, especially on offense, the last few weeks to say that they are, for certain, the two best teams. you have to give somebody from another conference a shot.

huge upset for ClemPson today as they knock off the U. that puts Georgia Tech in the driver's seat in the ACC Coastal, now that the 3-way tie is broken. GT holds the head-to-head win over Va Tech, so the Jackets need only to beat Wake and Duke to win the division. could Tech be creeping into the national hunt?

biggest ones tonight are the TCU game and Iowa vs. Michigan St in the Big10.

UC didn't miss Pike today as it looks like Pitt is the clear challenger in the BigEast. of course, that game is not until Dec 5th and could have major national title implications alongside the conf title games that day.

Iowa is starting to look like one of those "teams of destiny" as they pull out another one.

Tim Tebow also looks well on his way to winning the most undeserved Heisman Trophy since, well....ever? at least since Gino Toretta. Gators continue to win while keeping the offense somewhere just this side of anemic.

TCU stakes its claim to move ahead of Boise in the non-BCS, BCS race.

tracking our title contenders, we're down from 21 to 17 (with Auburn, USF, Kansas, and Miami dropping out). still 7 unbeatens.

    WAC (1): 0 losses - Boise St.
    MWC (1): 0 losses - TCU
    Pac 10 (2): 0 losses - none; 1 loss - USC, Oregon
    Big 12 (2): 0 losses - Texas; 1 loss - Oklahoma St
    Big 10 (2): 0 losses - Iowa; 1 loss - Penn St
Big East (3): 0 losses - Cincinnati; 1 loss - Pitt, West Virginia
    ACC (1): 0 losses - none; 1 loss - Georgia Tech
SEC (5): 0 losses - Florida, Alabama; 1 loss - LSU; 2 losses - South Carolina, Ole Miss

Bama actually blocked a fieldgoal and never trailed in the game. That being said, they played badly. At the end of the day, however, you have to win those type of games to stay undefeated and have a championship season. If you look back at all the teams that have won championships they either had one defeat or went undefeated with 1 or 2 games where they narrowly escaped alive. I don't put much stock in that game being the water mark as to their talent or ability. They still have to beat LSU if they want that rematch against Florida in the SEC title game. I'd say the odds of beating LSU, then Florida, and then having enough left to win the national title game are pretty long.

a couple big ones this weekend that impact the title chase

The Big 12's two contenders square off in Stillwater with Texas facing a Bryant-less Oklahoma St.

the Trojans and Ducks square off at Autzen in a game that looks to be for the Pac10 title and is effectively a national elimination game.

other games of interest: Cocktail Party in Jacksonville where UGA tries to salvage their season with a colossal upset; ....actually, the rest of them sort of suck...

I think tonight's matchup will be pretty decent for a friday night game. I'm looking for South Florida to score the mild upset of West Virginia. I like the home dog here catching 3 points.

good call, SS. WVU picks up their first conference loss. I'll admit I didn't see that one coming after USF was blasted by Pitt last week. BigLeast looks like it will come down to UC/Pitt on 12/5

If anyone is looking for a play this morning, i would go with Ole Miss minus the points over Auburn. It is a 4- point line here. Auburn is reeling.

Iowa pulls out an impossible win today. Indiana was driving to go up 28-7 when they get a pinball interception for a 90-yd pick-6.

then, down 24-14 in the 4th, two consecutive offensive plays go 92 and 66 yards for TD's. 28 pts in the 4th to win going away.

    absolutely crazy...

huge wins today for Oregon and Texas.

Oregon really looks to be the best of the one-loss teams (or, at worst, right there with Georgia Tech), but they raise an enormous philosophical question: is there any way you can move them ahead of Boise St?

on the surface, the obvious answer is no. an undefeated team vs a one-loss team, whose one loss was to that unbeaten. seems pretty simple. but that ignores the vast differences in the rest of their schedules. does anyone really believe that Boise would beat USC, let alone by 27?

we have also made it into November with still seven unbeatens, which seems high for this late in the year. compounding it this year is that only two of them will likely play each other (Florida and Alabama). the other five should be favored significantly in almost all of the rest of their games (the only exceptions being Iowa at OSU, UC at Pitt, and perhaps Oregon at Arizona). so, there is somewhat of a chance that we could have 6 unbeatens, with 4 or 5 seeming very likely.

all of this may be moot, however, as it really looks as though nobody is going to beat Texas. so, we'll end up with a Texas vs. SEC champ game

here's the updated list, down from 17 to 12. a big move this late in the year.

we dropped WVU, Ole Miss, USC, Oklahoma St, South Carolina

    WAC (1): 0 losses - Boise St.
    MWC (1): 0 losses - TCU
    Pac 10 (1): 0 losses - none; 1 loss - Oregon
    Big 12 (1): 0 losses - Texas; 1 loss - none
    Big 10 (2): 0 losses - Iowa; 1 loss - Penn St
    Big East (2): 0 losses - Cincinnati; 1 loss - Pitt
    ACC (1): 0 losses - none; 1 loss - Georgia Tech
    SEC (3): 0 losses - Florida, Alabama; 1 loss - LSU; 2 losses - none

so, yes, that's only 12 teams left in the hunt. and, as a sign things are sorting themselves out, that may well be your top 12 in the upcoming polls, if Pitt gets all the way up to 12th.

Iowa dominated Northwestern early...but Stanzi gets knocked out on a fumble in the endzone to make it 10-7...

Northwestern just picks off a pass...and freakin' Stanzi can barely walk...

Northwestern up 17-10....with three minutes left and the ball...

Michigan getting dumped by Purdue...to go 5-5....

    hmmmm....

I wonder if we'll here as much talk about how their season sucks...

As we did at the beginning of the year with regards to "how Dick Rodriguez has a history of big second years."

Yeah, I wonder if they'll be saying that watching the bowl season...what a joke...

    Navy beats Notre Dame...

Give tOSU's struggle a bit more legitimacy...but Notre Dame isn't exactly Notre Dame either...

Oh, Notre Dame is Notre Dame alright... they are going the way of powerhouses of days gone by like Harvard, Yale, Army... those teams were Top 10 for decades oh, about 100 years ago... storied tradition and history, pathetic present.

    Weis needs to go.

    That is all.

surprised by the Oregon loss yesterday.

not surprised by the Bama win over LSU, only that they didn't win by more. LSU is living of the reflected light of its conference right now. even after losing, they're still in the top 10. they haven't beaten shit this year. best win might've been Georgia, who might end up at 6-6 this year. and they don't even win that one without that ridiculous celebration penalty.

Iowa was bound to lose eventually.

and let's hear it for Paul Johnson's enormous testicles. down 3 in OT, facing 4th and 1 at the 4. almost every other coach in the country would kick the FG and go to 2OT. Paul goes for it, gets the first down, and scores the game winner on the next play.

Georgia Tech goes to 9-1 and a #7 BCS ranking. they are not at all out of it in the national title hunt, if they can get a Texas loss and a UC loss. but I think quite a few voters would favor a 12-1 Tech team (champion of a BCS conference) over an unbeaten TCU or Boise, if it came down to it.

if anyone's still reading these, my national title tracker is down from 12 to 9

    dropped Oregon, Penn State, LSU*

    WAC (1): 0 losses - Boise St.
    MWC (1): 0 losses - TCU
    Pac 10 (0): none
    Big 12 (1): 0 losses - Texas; 1 loss - none
    Big 10 (1): 1 loss - Iowa
    Big East (2): 0 losses - Cincinnati; 1 loss - Pitt
    ACC (1): 0 losses - none; 1 loss - Georgia Tech
    SEC (2): 0 losses - Florida, Alabama; 1 loss - none; 2 losses - none (LSU)*

you'll note that I modified my own rules a little bit on LSU (and it's not because I don't think they're very good). I had held the 2 loss category in for the SEC only, because we had precedent (LSU in 2007). However, the caveat should be two-loss SEC Champion. I can't see how a two-loss team, that doesn't even win its own division, can make the national title game. so, I dropped LSU.

so, nine teams. of those nine, I think 7 have some measure of a chance (can't really see a scenario by which Iowa or Pitt could get all the way up into that game). still 4 weeks left to see how it all plays out.

no real upsets this week at the top. Florida continues to win while looking unimpressive.

Texas shows no signs they're going to drop one.

TCU was absolutely dominant in a game folks were targeting as their best chance to lose.

Boise continues to beat up on Creampuff State University and Beautician's School.

Tech overcomes a bad start to blow out ACC pretender Duke.

the list, by the way, falls from 9 to 8 (even though it continues to look like its only 3)

    dropped Iowa

    WAC (1): 0 losses - Boise St.
    MWC (1): 0 losses - TCU
    Big 12 (1): 0 losses - Texas; 1 loss - none
    Big East (2): 0 losses - Cincinnati; 1 loss - Pitt
    ACC (1): 0 losses - none; 1 loss - Georgia Tech
    SEC (2): 0 losses - Florida, Alabama; 1 loss - none

    You need two of those...

    One for National Title...

    One for BCS...

although eight teams would about cover it...right?

theoretically...you could have your final eight right there..
