Dunno if this was already posted or not.
Kids covering Led Zeppelin's Black dog. The one on guitar/vocals is awesome.

I like that the kid is using old school stomp boxes.

I can't say, considering the age of the kids, that it wasn't impressive.

Even more impressive? If a few years down the line the kids come up with their own tunes that sound good on their own terms. THAT is what I'm waiting for. No disrespect to the kids (because, hey, they're kids) but I'm beyond the point where watching amateur musicians covering other people's tunes - even if the covers are dead-on in terms of accuracy - elicits anything from me other than mild boredom. I'm waiting for all these youtuber copycat guitarists to go beyond replicating someone else and produce compelling music of their own.

I agree with you, Terry. Of course covering tunes, be it really well, doesn't compare with composing pertinent, original music.

But this (13 year-old, must be) kid's musical abilities and self assurance are just tremendous.
Time will tell if he persists in playing guitar and reaches top level. For sure, that's another story.

After all, in their early twenties the Stones themselves didn't create their own songs anyway.

Nowadays' kids playing good old rock 'n' roll these days is invigorating, IMO.

Don't get me wrong...I enjoyed it well enough for what it was, and it was impressive considering their age - I'm not such a venal shit that I'm gonna rag on a couple of kids for doing a cover tune - and, as you say, nothing wrong with covering some good old rock and roll.

After a dozen years of seeing youtubers covering good old rock and roll tunes, I'm just waiting for a new wave of rock and roll, where the youtubers take their influences and create anew. I know somewhere that must be happening with some band...maybe I'm just not looking hard enough, or maybe that genre isn't getting the exposure it once did.

Maybe I just need to capitulate and become a Swiftie. Better that than watch what's left of the Strolling Bones churn out Satisfaction for the 10 millionth time.

Whatever. I'm getting old and cranky.

There actually was a single that came out in 1986, long before the album. You will recognize the song, originally done by The Easybeats from Australia, and more famously covered in the 80s by their fellow Aussies INXS & Jimmy Barnes...

Zevon is in the band here, along with the REM guys, but he's not singing. Singer is a guy named Bryan Cook who was in a number of bands from REM's hometown, Athens GA.

So if Chris Cornell did a cover of "One", would it be the U2 song, or the Metallica song? Fuck it, why choose between the two??
