White House advisers say Fox News is not news

    By ANN SANNER,
    Associated Press
Sun Oct 18, 2:34 pm ET

WASHINGTON – White House advisers pledged on Sunday to book administration officials on Fox News despite claims by the president's inner circle that the cable network is a GOP mouthpiece whose programming "is geared toward making money."

Last week, White House communications director Anita Dunn said Fox News operates "almost as either the research arm or the communications arm of the Republican Party." On Sunday, Rahm Emanuel, President Barack Obama's chief of staff, said, "It is not a news organization so much as it has a perspective."

In response to the criticism, Fox News executive Michael Clemente on Sunday accused the White House of continuing to "declare war on a news organization" rather than focusing on issues such as jobs and health care.

"The door remains open and we welcome a discussion about the facts behind the issues," said Clemente, senior vice president of news, in a written statement.

Fox News commentators Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity have been strong Obama critics, and Bill O'Reilly has taken tough looks at the administration. Obama avoided "Fox News Sunday" when he visited five Sunday morning news shows last month; three aides carried the administration's message on Afghanistan, health care and the economy this Sunday to ABC, CBS, CNN and NBC, but not Fox; and a recent White House blog post accused Beck of lying. Beck has called Obama a racist.

Appearing on ABC's "This Week," senior Obama adviser David Axelrod said Fox News shouldn't be treated as a news organization. "And the bigger thing is that other news organizations, like yours, ought not to treat them that way, and we're not going to treat them that way," he said.
      Finally!
Rupert is nuts. The top ratings and money maker is porn. Ratings and making the moo-la does not mean you have a news organization. It simply means you have a rater and a cash cow.

The White House is really being stupid on this one. The more they talk about it, the higher Fox ratings will rise. And the more certain hosts on Fox will talk shit. Treat them the same as everyone else. Go on their shows, give the interviews. Just don't go on Beck, Hannity or O'Reilly. Nothing wrong with the actual "news" people. Chris Wallace, Shepard Smith, Bret Baier. Go on those programs. This whole thing is really making the administration look like a bunch of crybabies.

Tackle the issues, not people who may be voicing opposition. They just keep serving up plenty of things for people to rag on and losing focus of what they really need to be doing...repairing the country.

A rater is someone who rates something and "moo-la"means nothing...

Chris Wallace? Are you fucking kidding me?

His father should sue him for defamation of the family name.

Of course the irony here is that Axelrod said this on ABC, which hasn't been a legitimate news organization itself since Peter Jennings died. It's just as right wing as FAUX most of the time, but it's (distant) past reputation allows it to claim legitimacy.

LOL...I guess I must be. Never watched the Sunday news programs. Thought he was more journalist than opinion.

It's hard to believe he came from Mike Wallace's balls. Just another FAUX neocon hack.

I disagree. I think it's the right thing to say, regardless of what political effect it may have.

Maybe so but Fox News has morphed into its own monster that has stepped out of the boundaries of Murdoch control. Beck and Co. carry the propaganda machine that is Fox News over to their highly unreadable books and boring radio shows making the mothership they serve not so much a "cash cow" as a gravy train. And they love where the ride is taking them.

So now the Obama Administration has discovered Fox isn't (proper) journalism..? Why stop there? Why not chastise CNN? Or MSNBC for that matter? As if the Obama Administration is now making its own news by observation. I said this before about these lame 24-hour cable news networks in that despite their political slant they all serve the same master which is their advertisers and shareholders.

Well accountability must have some line at the very least " this is what it is not"
Thunderf00t had a commentary about accountability and corporate ran informational sites. He made some good points, but it was on another totally different corporate informational site.
Basically what he said was accountability is paramount over profits.
To put it simply, we need to worry a lot less about how to communicate our actions and much more about what our actions communicate.
