Yeah, you can tell which half of 5150 was written before Dave left the band, and which half was written with Hagar.
Sammy has admitted that the cheese ballad about aliens pulling tampon strings was the first thing they wrote together, and that pretty much says it all about Van Hagar.

summer nights....checkin' out all the girls...seeing what they got...and they love it! when me and the boys......
thats a Dave lyric
f.u.c.k sounded over produced. i hated that fucking Right Now song. still do. i liked ed's playing in poundcake. i cant think of anything else off that album. in fact i feel ill.
"Judgment Day" from FUCK could have been a good song..... with Dave singing.
I thought "I'll Wait" sucked ass the first time I heard it, and I've never changed my mind. But it's slightly better than anything Spammy Tequila ever spewed out of his piehole.

When I first heard FUCK I thought Poundcake and Judgement Day were good - but the rest of the album was a huge disappointment. Man on a Mission, In n' Out and Pleasure Dome are evidence of an uninspired Eddie - really generic stuff - while Right Now and Top of the World have some of the corniest lyrics Sammy ever wrote - and that's saying something! Runaround and Dream is Over would have been interesting with Dave's lyrics and some tweaking with the melodies.

I like the live version of In and Out...
Jump does suck though...

I like "Summer Nights." But I'd give my left nut to hear Dave's supposed version allegedly called "Eat Thy Neighbor." But I've said that here about five times over the years and have yet to see or hear any evidence that this ever really existed in anything close to a finished track...

I'm sure that everything Van HALEN recorded in early 85 is in a vault somewhere in Howdy Doody Mountain Studios. Whether any of them ever resembled completed songs, as opposed to rough demos, is the real question.
If Dave's whole complaint with the Sisters is that they were lazy, drunk, coked up, and not wanting to work, then I would guess none of the songs were finished.
I just wonder if they were so pissed, and paranoid, that they destroyed anything Dave-related during the 5150 sessions in order to prevent bootleg from emerging--and the inevitable comparisons...
But part of me believes that even Ed and Al would never do that, no matter what was happening...
